Day time activity ideas

Hello! I have an 19 month old who is a delight, and also wakes up frequently through the night. I’ve just night weaned her, and it was pretty easy, honestly. However, she still wakes up crying several (5+) times a night and needs to be cuddled and rocked back to sleep. She has always been this way and we co sleep in the same bed as a result (for me to get as much sleep as possible). We take her outside often, as we live on the west coast in Canada, and are lucky to have a large backyard with trees and a garden. She loves it outside. Inside, we play with puzzles and other Montessori toys and games or she just finds things to entertain herself with. We also go to baby meetups a couple times a week and she’s in daycare 3x a week. Both my partner and I take turns with her.
She generally sleeps 8:30pm-6:30 am and naps 12-1/1:30 with variations of course. She wakes up during naps 1x and gets soothed back to sleep. And her wake ups at night happen after her first sleep cycle and then more and more 2am onwards.
Note: we have had her iron checked and she is fine. We do still give her iron supplements at our pediatrician’s recommendation to see if it helps with sleep (it doesn’t).
Do folks have suggestions as to how we can support her with sleep? Do people have ideas around why she might be waking up so much still at this age?

Thank you!

Activities for road trip

Hello! My partner and I will be going on a long road trip in September for a friend’s wedding. We will be driving max 5 hours a day, which will incorporate her nap.
Our toddler is 17 months old. We have never used screens with her, but obviously she does get bored in the car. What she has enjoyed is:
- snacks!
- a busy board
- cooing at herself in the mirror
- when I sing and play with her (I love this but I also like to have some breaks because it’s tiring for me too).

We will also stop for large chunks during the day so she can play and we can walk our dog.

What I’m looking for are ideas or activities we can bring with us that are entertaining and interesting for her (even for 10 mins!!)

TIA ❤️

Are Part time daycares a thing?

Hello fellow parents of Vancouver. I thought I was going to be ok keeping my baby at home with me and working evenings until she is 3, but it turns out that my mental health needs a different arrangement (as well as my financial needs). I am on the west coast website looking weekly at openings but most say 5 days a week. I am hoping to find daycare 2-3 days a week for my 18 month old. I know it will take effort and time to find, but can someone tell me if this is even a thing? If so do I just need to cold call? Thanks for any advice or guidance. 🙏

Transit police checks on R5

Hello! I was on the R5 this morning when a swarm of transit cops came on the bus and checked everyone’s bus pass, even asking people’s ages if they didn’t seem like a student. Not sure if it was a training or due to FIFA patrolling or whatever, but wanted to let folks know. The people that hadn’t paid were asked to step off the bus and were being written tickets. FYI!
