Built a small AI tool in my spare time alongside my day job. It's grown steadily and recently started getting real traction.
This week someone offered to buy it - cash + a monthly retainer + some equity. Looked flattering at first.
But when I broke it down, most of the "value" was my own future work priced low, plus equity in something not even registered yet. The actual cash was less than what I'd keep it for.
So I said no. It's still growing, and the part they were really paying for is the part I'd lose by selling cheap.
Small milestone, but getting an offer at all felt like a good signal.
