£150 to buy everything - what do you buy?

Just bought a 987 Cayman and want to clean it myself rather than take it to a scratch and shine :). The only thing I currently have is a pressure washer.

What would you buy with £150 to spend? My main priority is simplicity, i.e., I would rather do an okay job with little time spent than a great job with loads of time spent.

I'd very much appreciate your input on products, microfibres, wheel brushes, buckets, etc.

I am guessing it will be a basic pre-wash, a shampoo , a quick detailer, and then a couple of sponges, a bucket, and a pack of microfibres? Oh, and a wheel brush and wheel cleaner?

£150 isn't a hard limit, but I would struggle to justify spending much more. At least in terms of just getting started.

Your advice and knowledge would be hugely appreciated.

Heatgeek price check

  • Vaillant aroTHERM pro 7kW (my heat loss is measured at 7.3kW so I hope this is okay?)
  • 370% guaranteed efficiency
  • Existing cylinder
  • 2 radiators upgraded
  • £9000 BUS grant as I'm on oil

Quote: £970

This is a good price right? I was very tempted to pay the extra ~£3k for a new cylinder, but as I currently have a vented system, I was worried switching to mains pressure hot water may cause problems with my taps, water softener etc etc, and to be quite honest I am fine with my current water pressure (pump for shower), and the tank was only fitted by the last owners 10 years ago or so.

Also really wanted to go for the new, black aroTHERM Plus but again, given how good this price is, I am going to go ahead with this I think, and perhaps hope by the time my install comes I may be able to pay some extra then and get upgraded.

All in all, I don't think I can turn down this quote, given my 30+ year old oil boiler is almost given up, I think I will press the button!

I plan to use the spare few thousand I had budgeted for this on doubling my battery capacity from 10kWh to 20kWh.

Thoughts?

Installers pocketing the £1500 oil uplift on the BUS?

My quotes are no cheaper than a few months ago. These installers take the piss.

Any clever sparky tricks for getting a new 2.5mm twin and earth up through this cable transit?

It's very packed in there, highly doubt I can get any rods up there.. although I haven't yet tried. I could just take off the wood panel as I'm redecorating this room at some point anyway.

It's the same on the floor above. I'm trying to get all the way up to the attic.

Any tips appreciated 🙂

Garage essentials for new bike?

Hi guys, hoping to pass my test soon (will be passed in August all going well!) and will then planning on buying a new CB750 Hornet.

Would like to stock up on a few bits and pieces for my garage, and thought it may be useful to get some advice as others may also be interested.

So far (trying not to go overboard):

  • Paddock stand? Seems like a nice way of storing the bike for any extended amount of time, taking up less space in the garage.

  • Any maintenance tools / items outside of the ordinary hand tools? Considering it'll be a new bike under warranty, I am guessing not really.

  • Chain maintenance? Anything need doing on a brand new bike?

  • Tyre inflator (already have)

  • Battery tender (already have one but seems crucial considering I plan to be a fair weather rider at least at first)

Anything I've missed or you don't think I need? Appreciate your input.

Anyone know when the new black Vaillant aroTHERM Plus will be available?

People said it may be here in July. Anyone got the latest?

It's been sold in Europe since last year, but still not available in the UK.

Seems to bring some improvements over the current model, in my case most notably a big reduction in noise levels (hopefully allowing me to place it where most other pumps wouldn't be allowed due to proximity to neighbors windows).

Any idea when this will coming to the UK? I am pretty much holding off upgrading my ancient oil boiler until this HP is on the market.
