Lacquer repair & Small chips

I'm a weekend warrior, about to purchase my first machine polisher. However these paint defects have been bothering me for a while now.

The vehicle is a 2019 Mercedes E Class. I want to keep this vehicle for a long time, so I want a fix which looks decent but also helps to protect the paintwork and bodywork for the future.

Lacquer repair, it is behind the rear wheel arch on both side. Pretty minor, but I am worried it will lead to rust in the long term future or I will cause further damage when I machine polish the area. How would you tackle this? I've seen videos of wet sanding, taping off an area, heating the panel, spray can lacquer, wet sand, polish. It seems doable but is this legit? Should I just forget about it and pay for the repair? How much would that cost realistically?

Chips. There is probably half a dozen very small chips on the bonnet (very quick inspection). I have seen a video online where he adds paint with a toothpick (paint includes the base and clear coat), let's it almost fully set off, then machine polishes which takes off any edges without sanding. What are your thoughts on this? Seems a bit cowboy but it did look very good and seems low risk considering he doesnt sand anything.

Appreciate all help and advice!

Hi All,

Ive got the autogylm polar set, was thinking id like to upgrade i've got a few options to choose from just wondering general concensus of which one owuld be best to get

from bilt hamber site:

  • auto-wheel = for the wheels
  • touch-less = prewash snowfoam
  • auto-wash = bucket washing
  • surfex-hd = interior cleaning

or i've found this starter bundle :

https://www.cadetailing.co.uk/products/detailing-starter-bundle?_pos=13&_fid=80e668bce&_ss=c

PPF Install - Trim damage

Hey!

I’ve recently had a panel of PPF replaced on my Porsche.

Immediately I’ve noted the adjacent side intake has gone milky white. It almost looks like spray damage from a chemical. Sadly it won’t wash away.

Any ideas on the potential cause? And resolution? It’s not a cheap component to replace!

Thanks

Beginner - Foam Cannon Setting

So this upcoming weekend I will be doing my first wash of a new car I just bought.

I have purchased Bilt Hamber Touchless as my pre wash product and will work out the PIR when my package arrives. However, when working this PIR do I set the top of the foam cannon to '+' and if so would I also keep it there during the actual wash?

I also plan to half the amount of product needed when working out my PIR as I will only be utilising 500ml in my cannon to avoid any product waste as I don't think I'll need the whole litre for 1 car and wouldn't want to pour out any leftover product - I'm assuming this is ok

Titan pressure washer replacement hose?

I have an old Titan pressure washer that works fine but the hose has broken.

Bought a replacement hose from screwfix but the fittings are too big so won’t work. Had a look on the internet but can find a replacement hose that will work, has anyone managed to find a replacement hose with the stubby connectors?

I'm guessing this is going to be a problem?

The grit guard doesn't fully fit at the bottom of the bucket which I'm assuming means it won't keep everything at the bottom?

Any suggestions on buckets and grit guards that won't break the bank

IM JUST A GORL!😩

I have a brand new 26 plate Audi Q2 black edition - she’s gorgeous!🌟 However, now needs a wash & I’m being told not to take it to a normal car wash due to risk of scratching also they don’t spend time “detailing” - whatever that means. So anywaysss, opened my boot & I have an Autoglym lifeshine kit box:

Wheels
1 x Custom wheel cleaner
1 x Instant Tyre dressing

Glass
1 x Fast glass

Interior
1 x Interior Shampoo
1 x Autofresh

Exterior
1 x Foaming car wash
1 x Rapid ceramic spray

I think I got given this because I had the car coated in ceramic?

Long story short - CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW I SHOULD WASH THE CAR MYSELF THIS WEEKEND? Like, what goes on first😭😭 - everyone’s saying 2 buckets & shall I get a microfibre mit… I do have a hose

About to Purchase All This - Advice Required

I have just picked up a new car and don't fancy taking it to the scratch and shine hand car washes so have decided to start detailing my car at home.

I have done some research and come up with a list of things I have in my basket which I will put down below. I would greatly appreciate you guys looking over what I have to make sure I am well equipped to start doing this and if I'm not, give suggestions on what else I can pick up if it's absolutely necessary.

Can someone also let me know if I need to purchase any conversion kits to make my Karcher hose quick connect.

Equipment:

- Karcher K4 Pressure Washer

- In2Detailing Deluxe v2 Swivel Stubby Gun

- MJJC Foam Lance Pro v2

Exterior:

- Bilt Hamber Touchless

- Garage Therapy Car Shampoo

- 2 Buckets with Grit Guards

- 2 Microfibre Wash Mitts

- Rag Company Gauntlet Drying Towel (Paying a premium for this due to stock issues so any other cheaper alternatives that perform the same would be appreciated)

Wheels:

- Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel

- Garage Therapy Tyre Serum

- In2Detailing Tyre Brush

- 2 Microfiber Wheel Wash Mitts

- 1 Bucket With Grit Guard

- Rag Company Gauntlet Wheel Drying Towel

Interior/Glass:

- NEED SUGGESTIONS FOR INTERIOR CLEANER (I own a BMW M340i so anything that can clean the majority of that)

- Maguiars Glass Cleaner (Already had at home)

- In2Detailing Hybrid Waffle Glass Towel

I believe that's everything I have added to my basket so far and I believe it's all I need but would like someone with experience to just double check it all and give any further suggestions.

DIY job or get a professional to do it...

I'm hoping the images are clear enough to see! I've described them nonetheless below...

Hi all! I got my first car this week and it's all very exciting, but at some point a previous owner did a pretty bad paint touchup job. Mainly because the paint doesn't match exactly.

Details:
They are mainly little scratches where I can see the paint chipped off under the touchup, very small though.
The 2 worse areas are a small round dent and a mild crease dent near the rear, above tyre.

I feel I should get a professional to adress the dents. However, I am currently weighing up if I can DIY the little scratches.

I'm planning on getting into detailing so I need this paintwork real nice and homogeneous!

Love to hear people's opinions and tips!

Advice on this paint blemish on brand new car

Any ideas what this is? Taken it back to the dealer who said they'd get their paint guys to look at it and it will buff out, but they are messing me around with dates.

On the same panel there is also hologram effects and hundreds of fine scratches from what looks like a bad polish job.

Im seriously considering rejecting this car. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Edit: Apologies if it is not clear. The issue is the large circular shadow directly left from where the black door handle trim meets the paint, and directly right from my phone reflection.

I have a couple of questions as new person just getting into detailing/cleaning my car properly. See body txt.

Ok so first question is what wheel/rim/whatever else cleaners would you recommend I use on my Mini Cooper S. I want to make sure I use the right stuff so I don't mess them up.

Second question is what is the difference between using cheap buckets vs expensive buckets? Two Buckets from B&M is like £4. One of the exact same buckets from Halfords is around £8 and then you have the branded buckets that are anywhere from £11+. What do gain (if anything) from the more fancy/expensive buckets.

Thanks in advance.

What do you want to know about these?

I'm currently reviewing the Nilfisk P200, Ava P80 Evo and brand new Karcher K7 Comfort Flex pressure washers and I want to know what you'd like to know about them?

I'll answer as much as I can in my upcoming video review.

Confused about Supagard

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand how UK insurers treat dealer-fitted paint protection like Supagard.

My current insurer has asked me to declare it and provide the invoice, which I have done (£399 dealer-fitted Supagard from Steven Eagell Toyota).

However, other insurances also mentioned it may be treated as a “modification” in their system and could affect my premium.

My concern is that other insurers seem to classify it differently (some say it’s just cosmetic protection and not a modification), so I’m getting mixed information.

I’m worried about my future renewal because it feels like insurers don’t fully agree on what Supagard actually is.

Has anyone had experience with this?
Does this usually affect premiums or cause issues at renewal.

What exactly do you usually say to insurers (if you have Supagard or similar brand sealing) so they correctly understand it is a polishing / paint protection sealant, not a ceramic coating or PPF?

I’m mainly trying to avoid confusion and make sure I’m describing it correctly when getting quotes or speaking to insurers.

Pressure Washer suggestions

Hi everyone, would like to ask what kind of pressure washer I should get. I’m currently looking at the Karcher K4 Power Control or the Hawksmoor 160 bar pressure washer, but I’m a bit confused between the two.

I’ll probably only use it a couple of times per year for things like patio, driveway, and car cleaning. Looking for something reliable and good value for money.

Any recommendations or experiences with either of these or any other ones in the same budget ?

Advice on Very Dull Door Panel

My wife’s 2015 GLA has one door panel that has lost all its shine. Pic comparing it to the door next to it. Never been replaced, so I suspect some sort of cleaning chemical was left on too long without rinsing. Feels Matt to the touch. Any advice on what to use to bring back to normal? I was looking at Autoglym Advanced Paint restorer, I don’t have a polisher so would be doing it by hand. It’s only one door, so not too worried on the effort required! Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions
