Cataldo/ Boston Area EMS

Im getting my medic soon and am looking for a place that would give me 911 calls without experience. I worked as an ED Tech for 6 months after getting my EMT and never worked on an ambulance. Wondering if cataldo or a place in southern nh or in the boston area would give me 911 without experience.

If anyone could speak to that, thatd be amazing, thanks!

Cityplace Target/ Maddox Apt

Moving to dallas. Love WV but its too expensive. Maddox looks nice but people told me its next to ghetto target. Is the area that bad? Its a 10 minute walk to west village.

I need an 8 month lease over 700 sqft under 2k, living alone. I wanted one near WV or just a nice area in general but it seems impossible. Any advice?

Scrubs vs Typical 5.11’s

Starting medic school soon, hate 5.11’s and the “tactical” pants. Theyre hot and heavy. Even the stretchy ones are way less comfortable than regular scrubs. I have 5.11 stryke that i hate. Does anyone just wear regular scrub pants if theyre the right color. Like fabletics or cherokee or something. Thanks

Ex army ranger with too much experience wearing shitty pants

Edit: I understand it looks bad. Thank you for the comments. Saying its wildly impractical when some departments have medics that wear shorts is hilarious

Edit #2: I didnt realize 5.11’s are made of adamantium and scrubs disintegrate the second they leave the hospital. Thank you all for your wisdom in these trying times

OCFA Orange County California

Hey everyone,

For those who have worked around OCFA, what’s the department culture actually like?

I’m a Special Operations Forces veteran currently working as an EMT in an ER and starting an accelerated paramedic program in a couple of months. I’ve recently become interested in the firefighter-paramedic route and have been learning more about Southern California departments.

I’m not from California, but I’ve spent time there and really enjoy both Orange County and San Diego. From the outside, OCFA seems like a great department, while San Diego Fire-Rescue seems to get mixed reviews, especially when pay comes up.

For those familiar with either department, what are the pros and cons? What surprised you once you got there? If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same department?

Just looking to learn more about the day-to-day reality and long-term career outlook. Thanks.

OCFA

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice from anyone familiar with OCFA.
I'm a Special Operations Forces veteran, currently working as an EMT in an ER, have a bachelor's degree, and will be finishing my MBA soon. I'll be starting an accelerated paramedic school in a couple of months. Recently, I've decided I want to pursue a career as a firefighter-paramedic in Southern California.

I'm not originally from California, but I've spent time there and would love to make the move permanently. OCFA seems like a great department, and I obviously love the area. I'm also interested in San Diego Fire-Rescue, but I've read quite a few comments saying their pay is relatively low compared to other major California departments.

How competitive is OCFA these days, especially for firefighter-paramedic applicants? What can I be doing now to make myself a stronger candidate? How much does prior 911 EMS experience matter compared to military experience and education? Also, does veteran status or VA disability play any role in the hiring process?

Just trying to build a realistic roadmap and learn from people who have been through it. Any advice, insight, or things you wish you'd known earlier would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, guys.
