Didgeridoo on Nasty Habits intro on Farewell

I recently found a copy of Farewell on DVD recently and while watching it today, I noticed that the "fourth" member of horn section, George McMullen, who stood well to the right of the regular horn section and who was rarely on screen, played a didgeridoo during the intro of Nasty Habits on the first song of the encore. You can see him holding it when John Avila comes on stage and just get a glimpse of it.

Once I saw it, I could clearly hear it as the drone sound under Danny singing "tell me your secrets." I had always thought it was a synth. He later switches back to trombone.

According to his website, he is "a Grammy awarded veteran trombonist and recording artist on Trombone, Bass Trombone, Flute and Didjeridoo." (https://georgemcmullen.com/index.html)

I've been listening to this album for 30 years, and just learned something new.

McMullin with his didgeridoo

Just over Danny's right shoulder and above his head you can see the didgeridoo.

My neighbors got their cat killed by a coyote (probably)

Some new neighbors moved in about a year ago. A few days later I saw a little black cat roaming the neighborhood. It had a collar so I went out to check to see if it was an escapee. The neighbor, who I hadn't met before, came told me it was their cat.

While we are in suburbia, we live in an area where there are coyotes, and cats go missing regularly. I warned him that there was one coyote that runs down the street in broad daylight periodically and that he might want to keep his cat inside. He just nodded and was clearly not interested in my opinion.

I would see the cat periodically. It was friendly and would come up to you if you stood still. I saw it narrowly avoid the neighborhood coyote about a week ago. Then, a few days later there were "Lost Cat" posters all around the neighborhood. I am so pissed at these know it all idiots. They don't deserve another cat. And that little cat deserved better.

John Billingsley Appreciation Post

I am re watching Enterprise for the first time since the original airing. And while the show is a bit hit and miss, especially as the crew murder-hoboed its way through galaxy in season 1, John Billingsley as Phlox has been a treat to watch perform. A great combination of humor and whimsy, but also enough character development to seem truly alien. I also loved him on Stargate SG-1, but watching him on Enterprise has been a treat.

Just wanted to share this shoutout.

State of the band

Related to Albumgate, I really wonder how the other members of the band feel about the constant delays, cancelations, etc. TK is obviously the face and voice of the band, but the other longtime members are more than just hired players. I have to imagine they have been some frustrations too.

15 years ago tonight, the TV show Undercover Boss was scheduled to feature UCR Chancellor Tim White. Then, shortly before the episode was set to air, President Obama held a press conference to announce that Osama Bin Laden had been killed. The episode eventually aired. There are a few familiar faces who are still on campus today, including the faculty member and the track coach.

The episode is can be seen here: https://youtu.be/4GOQN4-dY-o?si=hxjXafKkHC9tOx9c
