Weird pipe thing coming out of the ground

I've driven past this many times and I've no idea what it is or what it's for. There are these two big pipe things coming out of the ground, each capped off. Several inches in diameter. There's several feet of a gap between them. I assume you could remove the caps on then and place another pipe piece between them, but I've no idea what that would accomplish or why you'd do that. I don't recall ever seeing something like this elsewhere.

If it helps, it's right next to an intersection. It is also in front of a tire shop. This is in Utah, United States.

Thanks in advance!

My primary issue with Bazzite

First, I have nothing but respect and appreciation for the whole Bazzite team. Y'all have done an amazing job and made something really cool.

My main problem is this: Documentation is not beginner friendly. It assumed a level of knowledge that is well-beyond a noob like me. For anyone writing the documentation in the future, I ask you to bear this in mind.

For example: I am having issues with credentials. I'm told to follow the password reset instructions. Password reset instructions are all about accessing and using a "grub menu." What is a grub menu? What does it look like? Couldn't tell you. (I'm not looking for solutions on this right now, just an example).

That's just one example. And I recognize that this is a near-universal problem with any technical documentation. But I hope beginner friendliness will be considered in future updates.

Crows is crowdfunding on Backerkit

Crows is the next TTRPG from MCDM (company headed by Matt Colville, whom you may know from YouTube). They last released Draw Steel, which is a high powered, heroic fantasy.

Crows seems to be OSR, or at least OSR inspired. Low power. High danger. XP for Treasure.

I'd love to know what you think if you take a look at it. I really don't know how I feel about it. I like the skill trees; those sound fun. But I can't help but feel that I own several OSR systems already and wonder if I need another. Especially at the price point.

I do think it has potential as a 5e offramp, for folks who want to try something lower Fantasy. Neither me nor my 2 groups fit that mold.

Disclaimer: I have zero affiliation with the creators of this project. Just think it's kinda interesting and worth looking at / discussing.

Handheld with Big Buttons?

I've got big, fat thumbs. As a result, my thumb likes to hit more than one button at a time on my Anbernic RG40XX H. It very much annoys me, despite being a relatively small problem.

So, my question to you is, which device(s) have big and/or well separated buttons?

Power wise, I'd like GBA and below for sure. If it can also run PSP, that'd be cool.

How to do Mapping Online

I have an in-person group and and online group. My in-person is playing OSE and we're running through Stonehell. It's my first time playing a true dungeon crawl with lots of PC death, dungeon turns, and a player who is mapping everything as we go.

It's working quite well in person. But I do wonder how I could translate this to online. Is there a good way to have one (or more, I guess) player mapping as we go?

Kevin Crawford has a new book on Worldbuilding

He's kickstarting it. It's called The Book of Unnumbered Worlds. Seems to be more or less system neutral, though I'm sure it will pair very well with his Without Number games.

Disclaimer: I have zero affiliation with Mr. Crawford. Just think he makes cool stuff.

How to get Wake from Sleep with Steam Controller?

Edit: SOLVED! Need to wait for an update.

Reading through past threads, it seems like a recent update should have enables this feature. But I just got my controller and it doesn't seem able to wake from sleep. Do I need to do anything to enable it? Change a setting? Input a certain button combination?

Thanks in advance!

My dumb experience with Venmo

Just a brief rant. Not looking for solutions. I won't be a venmo customer.

This was several months ago. Decided to get a venmo account, as so many of my family members and colleagues use it.

I made the account and connected my bank account to it. I didn't use it beyond that. Didn't make a single transaction. Did not send or receive any funds, or even requests for funds.

Next day, I get a notification that my account is suspended for suspicious activity, or something to that effect. Why?

So I contact customer service. They say my account was flagged. To resolve, I must send them a picture of my government issued ID. I ask why. Why was my account flagged for suspicious activity when there literally has been no activity? They won't say.

I ask them to explain to me why they need my ID. They won't say. All they'll say is they promise to delete the ID soon after verifying my identity.

After going back and forth on this for awhile, they gave me no information. No explanation. Not a single reason why they'd need my ID or why my account was flagged. I told them to delete my entire account.

And that's why I don't use venmo.
