Contractors: how often do customers want the work done but don’t have the cash upfront?

Curious to know if anyone in home services (plumbing, roofing, HVAC, construction, etc.) ever run into situations where the customer genuinely wants the work done… but just doesn’t have all the cash upfront?

Curious how you guys usually handle that.

Do you lose the job?
Just reduce the scope of work?

Feels like this probably happens a lot more than people realize.

I’m pretty tech-savvy, which is why this is driving me insane.

My Sonos system keeps having these random audio dropouts/skips, and the best way to describe it is the speakers feel like they’re fighting each other for control.

Setup is:

Living Room: Sonos Arc (hardwired) + Sonos Sub Mini + ceiling speakers via Sonos Amp (hardwired)
Bathroom: Sonos Amp (hardwired)
Balcony: Sonos Port (hardwired) → mini amp → outdoor speakers
Bedroom: 2x Sonos One (stereo pair, one hardwired)
Kitchen / Dining: Sonos One SL (WiFi)
Office: Sonos Era 100 (WiFi)

Network:
Mix of hardwired Sonos devices + SonosNet for the rest
Stable mesh network (Deco as router, modem in bridge mode)
Wired devices all on the same switch
WiFi disabled on wired units

I still get intermittent skipping. It’s not a full disconnect, just enough to ruin the experience.

I’m not looking for “restart your router” type advice. I’ve already been through all of that. I’ve even try restarting in a specific order

At this point I’m wondering:
Is SonosNet clashing with my mesh network?
Some kind of STP / topology issue?
Devices handing off poorly or competing?

Has anyone actually fixed this long-term?
Because right now it feels like the system is working against itself more than anything.

I’ve read a lot about this issue and I see it’s a Sonos problem. I’ve spent a good amount on Sonos and it’s just sad to see “quality” speakers act this way.

Also, and maybe this is the bigger point, I feel like Sonos should give more advanced users the option to customize how devices communicate. Right now it feels like everything is happening behind the scenes and your speakers are just playing a guessing game on how to connect.

Would love to hear if anyone has dialed this in properly.

Picked up a few IKEA MOSSLANDA Picture Ledge shelves and turned them into a curtain facade / faux valance situation and honestly… it came out way better than expected.

Install was very easy. Took me maybe an hour total.

Right now they’re just mounted side by side, but I’m probably going to go back, fill the seams with some putty, sand it down, and paint everything so it looks like one solid built-in piece.

The best part though I had this random outdoor LED strip laying around that was way too long but I threw it on for some ambient lighting.

And yeah… that’s what really made it.
Gives it that soft glow at night and makes the whole thing feel way more high-end than it should.

All in, this cost me under $100.
I was originally looking at custom options getting quoted $500+ for basically the same look… so this felt like a no-brainer.

Super clean, minimal, hides the curtain hardware, and now doubles as ambient lighting.

Low effort, high payoff.

If anyone’s thinking about doing something similar, go for it! You won’t regret it.
