Did you know that The Lost World: Jurassic Park almost had a Bleach Bypass?

This is a technique where, during the processing of colour film, the bleaching step is skipped, leaving silver in the stock. This silver then creates an almost black-and-white layer, resulting in higher contrast, less saturation, and more pronounced grain.

Ultimately, cinematographer Janusz Kaminski abandoned this method as he didn't want to scare the audience too much.

I had originally linked the source, but it blocked the post lol

This is my Favorite VFX Shot of all Time

It blows my mind that this was made in 1993. While the Rex's textures and fidelity are dated, the comping is so polished it looks like she's actually there. The fact that compositing had to be done with nothing but point lights makes this actual wizardry. And the animation makes it even more stunning. The way she heaves and readjusts after each movement really gives a sense of how massive this creature is. It's stunning.

I Made a Video Color Swapping Godzilla (2014) and King of the Monsters

Happy birthday, MonsterVerse! Here’s something I made where I breakdown the visual styles of 2014 and KOTM and then swap their colour. Hope you enjoy!

Godzilla x Kong's Gravity Fight Collision, but with Tighter Color

This time, I wanted to tackle the start of the gravity fight. I was wary not to oversaturate like my previous recolour, focusing more on a tighter image. I also tried to recover any highlight detail that I could. Hope you enjoy!

What if Godzilla X Kong's Scylla Fight was more Vibrant?

I tried to really pull out the colour in the sky and environment, adding some density for that extra pop. The art direction is already quite varied, so I just wanted to make it sing.

What if King of the Monsters Looked like Godzilla (2014)?

The inverse of what I posted yesterday. Personally, I prefer this swap over the previous one; it adds a lot of atmosphere.

What if Godzilla (2014) Looked like King of the Monsters?

This Saturday, I am releasing a video that breaks down the looks of 2014 and KOTM and then swaps their palettes. I'm really excited to share what makes these movies look the way they do, so here's a sneak peek.

I Recolored What I Feel is One of the Most Underrated Shots in Godzilla (2014)

I never see anyone talking about this stunning shot, and that makes me sad. These massive creatures amongst a vast landscape. Also, the lizard looks so real, it's crazy.

The next shot was recolored too. Has a nice use of the wider aspect ratio.

I Tried Recoloring Some of Godzilla's Entrance into Boston

My goal was to keep the atmosphere of the original photography while adding some colour depth and tightening contrast. Just wanted to share.

What the title says. If anything, I think this is a wonderful example of how difficult it is to translate certain characteristics of concept art into what is seen on screen. As the colours are quite striking and harmonious in the art, but in live action it's GREEN.
