The Lost World novel is way better than people think and most fans haven’t even read it.

Not talking about the movie. The movie is whatever. I mean the actual Crichton book that the movie barely even used. Most people in this fandom have seen all six films, can quote the original front to back, have opinions on every sequel, but have never touched the second novel and it’s kind of crazy to me because it’s genuinely good.

The science stuff is better than the first book. Crichton clearly had more time to think through how these animals would actually behave and it shows. The raptor stuff, the T-Rex pack stuff, it reads like actual predator behavior not just monsters chasing people through a jungle. That’s the whole reason the first book worked and he does it better the second time around.

And the movie took basically nothing from it. Like three things made it over. So if you watched The Lost World in 1997 and figured you knew the story, you don’t. Different characters, different tone, different ending, completely different vibe. It’s its own thing.

It’s not going to hit the same way the original does, nothing does, but it’s way better than its reputation and I think it gets ignored because the movie was kind of mid and people just associate the two. The book deserved better than that adaptation.

If you’ve never read it and you’re actually a fan of this franchise it should probably be next on your list.

Kimcaid survivobg bothers me less than none of the Delgados dying

Thinking of the movie, Kincaid had a great Chekhov's gun where he described how he didn't want to die and how he could survive, from a cinema perspective, it is great. While the Delgados are essentially a B plot of the movie and I don't hate them, I do find Dolores to be really cute and Xavier has a pretty solid character development overall, but I did felt that none of them dying made their plot weaker and even with all that, I see a lot of people online complaining about Kincaid surviving (even though he is one of the most well developed characters in the last five movies).

Hot take: The long grass scene is better than the raptors in the kitchen

Yes, the raptors in the kitchen is iconic and very tense. But the children's plot armor becomes evident pretty fast, which undermines the horror of the situation.

The long grass scene is the superior showcase of why the velociraptor probably gave Muldoon sleepless nights.

The aerial shot of them zeroing in on Roland's men is straight out of JAWS and them getting picked off effortlessly is just chilling.

The first few men are being killed so fast they arent even getting a chance to scream.

And like others have pointed out, this scene is reminiscent of an actual incident of saltwater crocodiles eating Japanese soldiers near Burma during WWII. Which adds a layer of errieness to an already grisly scene.

The scene doesn't even last long, but is still better executed than the raptors in the kitchen imo.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see a JW Rebirth sequel, if...

They'd focus more eventually on the rights of the dinosaurs. Should they even have rights? And if so, what should those rights be? I mean, if humanity stands to gain so much from them, it stands to reason, to me at least, they'd kinda earn them. That's just me.

Just wanted to show off my fish tank!

10 gallons, stocked with cardinal tetras, shrimp, a pleco, and some horned berries. There is petrified wood pieces and ammonites sprinkled throughout. It’s a little dusty at the moment, I had to uncover some stones that my pleco buried
I was thrilled when I found the JP logo at Petsmart the other day

Does any one have access to the 1997 article “Pete Postlethwaite: Dinosaur Hunter” from Fangoria Magazine issue 164? You’d be a hero if you could share.

The baby triceratops seen in The Lost World isn’t an animatronic, it’s a person in a suit

It is well known that the animatronic triceratops that was made for Jurassic Park (1993) wasn’t used, but it did make appearance in The Lost World, although not as an animatronic. The Stan Winston Studio crew retained the original radio-controlled head but the animatronic body was refurbished as a foam latex Triceratops suit, worn by SWS employee Lindsay MacGowan in the scene.

Here’s a quote from the book Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Visual History by James Mottram:

To create a caged baby Triceratops, Winston's team dug out the abandoned infant Trike animatronic from Jurassic Park. The mechanics were removed so Winston employee Lindsay MacGowan could climb into the creature's skin via its belly and perform the creature on set. "I was on all fours basically, inside the cage," says MacGowan, who admits it was physically tough to be in that position for any length of time. "The takes were kind of long. So by the time you finished the take, your arms were a little bit like jelly!"

The transfer scene makes me a little confused now I’m older

So recently was able to get all seven movies of the Jurassic franchise, and I’m watching them in order but when I started the first one after the last time, I saw it when I was 15 I realize something during the raptor transfer scene… Why was Muldoon the only one trying to pull Joffrey from the cage while everyone else tried to get the raptor to let him go? Wouldn’t he have a higher chance of surviving the attack if some of the other workers helped Muldoon pulled him out of the cage?

What it would be like if we see the Nublar six return in a prequel like a book series that takes place on Nublar before season 3?

I was thinking about this idea recently. We Know that their story ended on a high note in chaos theory season 4, But I’m was wondering what they were doing after the events of camp Cretaceous season 2. The only thing that I know Is that Ben Pincus was being chased by an Allosaurus and Jumped off a Waterfall to escape, as mentioned in camp Cretaceous season 3.

So if we get ourselves a New camp Cretaceous Book series in the style of angry birds stella diaries, it could be a good idea. Have each book or diary be about each camper and there experience on Isla Nublar before the events of Season 3. I kinda like it to be a Graphic Novel similar To the dog man books or something like that.

We can even see more dinosaurs that we can see more like the triceratops which appeared in chaos theory season 4. If they go into the new series route, I don’t know, But a book series in the graphic novel style of dog man and the diary style of angry birds still diaries Is more likely

Did you know that The Lost World: Jurassic Park almost had a Bleach Bypass?

This is a technique where, during the processing of colour film, the bleaching step is skipped, leaving silver in the stock. This silver then creates an almost black-and-white layer, resulting in higher contrast, less saturation, and more pronounced grain.

Ultimately, cinematographer Janusz Kaminski abandoned this method as he didn't want to scare the audience too much.

I had originally linked the source, but it blocked the post lol

Commissioned artwork of an InGen Bull Tyrannosaurus I did with colors that ended up very similar to Rebirth's Ember 4 years later.

Why is there a ball joint on this set

As I was going through my collection of Jurassic Park legos I noticed there is a ball joint on the triceratops head Lego set.The confusion thing is this head has nothing for the joint to connect to so why is it there. The only explanation I have is it if you want to connect this to the full Triceratops body Lego set that comes out on the first of June.If anyone has a better explanation please tell me

u/Carnotaurusrules — 2 days ago

What Jurassic Park legos would like to see?

After building the Jurassic Park jeep I wanted more big Jurassic Park sets.I was disappointed to learn the only other one is going to be the Triceratops not that it’s bad but there are no more after that.

Lego needs to make a UCS for Jurassic Park but what would that include?

My own personal list would be

Have your own list in the comments.

Does anyone here think John Hammond is a villain?

One major reason I believe John Hammond isn’t a good as the movie portrays him is the trailer scene.

He barges into Grant and Sattler’s trailer having almost destroyed the exquisitely persevered raptor skeleton to toast to himself.

Now it’s not like that champagne is expensive.Moet and Chandon at most goes for about 100 dollars but Hammond is a billionaire so he could’ve easily just bought his own champagne.I wonder what he would’ve done if Grant and Sattler didn’t have champagne, toast with milk? This one scene tells you he is not actually a nice guy.Side note he also pours the champagne in a tumbler instead of the flites in front of him.He is a greedy cheapskate that is willing to cut corners anytime he can to save time or money.

Edit:I mean movie Hammond

Thrift store apatosaur

My jaw absolutely DROPPED as soon as I realized what was sitting at the very front of the plush section of the thrift store.

I’ve been trying to collect the older vintage Dakin plushes, so far I’ve got two Dilos affectionately named Dumpling and Pierogi. And now I’ve got this guy joining in ! Currently moving, so this was right after a long day of donating several bins of clutter and things we’ve been holding onto. This is one of the only items I left with, as it was an exception to my rule!

Hard work, consistency and patience paid off. Smiled all the way home, and our other cat approves of them as well.
