Freegosy: a desktop launcher for RomM (Windows, macOS, Linux/Steam Deck) – browse, download, launch, and sync saves

Hey everyone,

I've been building Freegosy, a free, open-source desktop app that acts as a frontend for your RomM library. It's the desktop counterpart to Argosy, which is Android-only.

You browse your RomM collection, hit download, and launch the game straight into the right emulator, all from one app.

What it does

  • Browse and filter your whole RomM library, with offline mode and cached metadata
  • Download ROMs with progress tracking, and auto-extract archives
  • Download and manage emulators, plus 190+ RetroArch cores with per-platform and per-game core choice
  • BIOS files are fetched from RomM and placed in the right folder for each emulator
  • Save sync with RomM: push/pull, local backup history, and offline backups that sync when you reconnect
  • Linux support includes Steam Deck, EmuDeck and RetroDECK setups

It's a solo hobby project and always free. It's still young, so bugs happen. I'm actively fixing what people report, and I'd really like feedback from RomM users, especially on save sync with different emulators.

Happy to answer questions!

Notes

  • r/romm may have self-promotion rules, so check the sidebar and flair the post appropriately. If you want to keep it shorter, cut the bullet list down to three items.
  • I wouldn't mention a version number unless you want to point people at the pre-release for the DS save fixes.
  • The README says "Full RomM 4.9 support". The open issue #150 was reported on RomM 5.2, so I left version claims out of the post.

Anyone else annoyed by how different every instrument's programming interface is?

Not sure if this is a dumb question, but I've been messing around with automating some lab equipment (signal generators, DMMs, that kind of thing) and every single brand seems to do things completely differently. Different commands, different ways to connect, nothing really lines up between them.

Is this just something everyone deals with and gets used to, or do people actually have a cleaner way of handling it? Feels like I'm just hacking together scripts per-device right now and there's probably a smarter way to do this that I'm missing.

Curious what other people do — do you write a wrapper per instrument and just live with it, or is there some pattern/library that actually made this less painful for you?

What cools skills have you built with Hermes?

Hey everyone I wanted to hear you all what cool skills have you made with Hermes 😄

I also wanted to share mine.

  • electrical-schematics: generates professional circuit schematics as SVG/PNG from a text description, using a maze autorouter with collision detection and diagonal routing.
  • datasheet-finder: hunts down electronic component datasheets across four sources, handles obsolete parts with replacement suggestions, stores everything in a persistent PDF vault.
  • video-use: edits any video by conversation, transcribes with local GPU whisper, burns subtitles, color grades, overlays animations — all through a single prompt.

Porfolio Dumper - Ingest your github profile for ease of LLM usage!

Made this project for my personal usage and thought to share :)

It's a simple site that lets you put your github username to get all of your repos, stars, readme.

I used it personally so I can give it to an LLM (Gemini) to make my profile readme cleaner.
