I'm Having So Much Anxiety About Starting Prozac and SSRIs in General
I'm new to all of this, so please bare with me. My doctor has been encouraging me to try an SSRI for some time now, so I finally agreed to give it a go.
Initially, she started me on Zoloft. However, we quickly learned I'm a "rapid metabolizer" and my experience with just 2 doses was unbearable. I was nauseous, jittery, and sweating profusely. I couldn't sleep, my jaw was so tight I could barely open it, and every time I closed my eyes it was like a blinding, flashing light was going off on repeat. I almost felt like I had flu-like symptoms. I cared about nothing, felt like a zombie, and my anxiety was so much worse with my heart rate spiking so high I felt like I was going to pass out.
My doctor had me immediately stop the Zoloft and now she wants me to start Prozac, but I'm so scared to go through those feelings all over again with a medicine that stays in my system even longer. I'm a naturally anxious, very on edge person and I'm a bit confused why she's recommending something energizing rather than calming. I do have some minor depression I deal with, but my anxiety is what I'm really struggling with.
On top of that, I also take Metoprolol, Spironolactone and Buspirone (low doses of each). My doctor says it's safe to continue on with these medications, but online it sounds like some of these combos are unsafe. Specifically the Metoprolol.
I see a lot of success stories out there, but even with those it seems people are learning to just live with the side effects. I'm most concerned about lack of sex drive. I have a healthy sex life today and I could already feel a decrease in sensation from only 2 doses of Zoloft. I don't know if losing my sex life is negotiable for me.
What are your experiences with Prozac? Is anyone out there also a rapid metabolizer and/or a user of both Prozac and Metoprolol? What time are you taking each medication during the day?
Thank you in advance for any feedback or opinions. I'm so anxious about this whole experience. I just want to feel normal and it feels like things just aren't going as I had hoped. It's a lot to try and navigate.
