What's the Hardest Challenge Elden Ring has thrown at you?

I faced a lot of challenges in this game, particularly on my first playthrough. But Maliketh was probably the hardest obstacle for me to overcome and the elation I felt when I finally won was unforgettable.

What was the absolute hardest challenge you faced while playing? It could be a boss, area, or even strong emotional impact from completing a quest. Feel free to drop some of your stories down below!

Your take on the Second Half

I know, I know. "Second half isn't as good as first half", "Second half is unfinished", and all the other takes on it. But, I'm actually really curious how some of you feel about the game after Anor Londo and the Lordvessal.

I have a unique relationship with it myself being that while I was playing through Anor Londo the first time, I would frequently watch some Lore and Gameplay videos after my gaming sessions. One day, I stumbled upon a Youtube video discussing something called the Tomb of the Giants.

Of course I had no idea what that was yet as I tried to avoid major spoilers my first playthrough. However, the video quickly drew me in and I was curious why the guy kept mentioning how much he disliked the area and all the zones after Anor Londo as a whole.

Up until then, I had heard constant praise from people about the game's level design and I myself loved all the cool shortcuts and loops. (My favorite being the Parish elevator) This was the first time I had heard negative opinions about the areas in the game and it influenced me a bit when I actually went through Izalith, Tomb, Archives, and New Londo.

Since this post is already long, (sorry to you guys who are still reading these massive chunks of text) I won't detail the rest of my playthrough here. Instead, let me just say that I didn't enjoy these areas and the experience they offered very much because I was only really focusing on how much they were criticized.

About a month or so ago, I finished my second full playthrough of DS1 and I completed the second half without really trying too hard to like or dislike it and I found that I actually enjoyed a lot of it. (Besides Bed of Chaos probably 😂 ) I would often notice little details such as the Daughter of Chaos Bonefire being like a little underground Firelink Shrine for Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith cause of all the shortcuts.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'd like to know what the community thinks about these areas, the bosses, or anything related to them in particular. Thank you to anyone who read my story as well. 😄

What are some of your best Souls Memories?

Mine are beating Ornstein and Smough for the first time, reaching the Kiln of the First Flame, and seeing Elden Beast. My hands were literally shaking after taking Ornstein down lol! 😂 Feel free to share some of the best Souls experiences you've had down below!

Something Souls-Related your exited about

I'm personally super hyped for Elden Ring Tarnished Edition since I've only ever played on the PS4. I've been looking forward to the Switch 2 port for ages and the new gameplay looks sharp so I'm beyond exited for my third playthrough on this platform!

Anyway, what is something Souls-related that you're looking forward to or just exited about? It can be literally anything:

  • An upcoming Game
  • A Game you just got
  • Something cool your doing in-game
  • A funny or interesting thing that happened to you while playing
  • Anything else at all

As always, happy to chat with you guys so feel free to talk this sort of thing here. 😄

Tarnished Warrior, Spurned by the Grace of Gold...

With Elden Ring coming to the Switch 2 in a week, I thought it would be fun for the community to share their thoughts on the game, what they're exited for, or just talk about it in general. I'm personally super hyped for this one and with the updated gameplay footage looking so clean, I decided to preorder it and save myself from having to download it on launch day. Feel free to chat about anything related to the game or ask me some questions about Elden Ring if you plan on playing for the first time. (Keep in mind I might not know everything but I do know quite a bit. Any advice or tips I give will be spoiler free as well. 😄 ) Have fun guys!

What's the best Part of the Souls games for you guys?

What's an aspect of the Souls series that keeps bringing you back? It can be anything: the Atmosphere, Combat/Bosses, Lore, or customization to name a few examples. Basically, what's your favorite part of these games and why? Feel free to let me know down below!

What's a Core Souls Memory for you guys?

Mine was when I first got O&S to phase two. I got so much adrenaline in that single moment! I've had quite a few others, so a few more for me was when I first entered the DLC and when I first stepped into the Kiln.

Feel free to share your best Souls memories from the game down below!

Rise, Tarnished...

With Elden Ring coming to the switch 2 in a month, I wanted to reach out to the community to offer some tips for first-time players and chat about the game in general.

If you're new to Elden Ring and are just picking it up on the Switch 2, I can offer you some helpful advice or tips for the game. (Keep in mind that I may not know everything but I'll do my best to answer questions you might have. Also, I'll be avoiding spoilers for this post.) Additionally, I created this as a fun place to:

  • Chat about the game with new players and veterans
  • Allow experienced souls players to prepare new Tarnished for the Lands Between (without spoiling it for them of course.)

So feel free to chat about what you're exited for, hopes for the port, and ask for advice. I'm super hyped to play this game on the Switch 2, happy gaming everyone!

Which game did the difficulty better?

Which style of difficulty do you prefer: the Area based difficulty in games like Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls or the boss-oriented struggle found in newer titles like Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring?

I personally love both styles (although running through all of New Londo can suck at times lol!) Let me know which one of these you find yourself enjoying more (if any). Thanks guys!

(Also, this picture is not mine)

What game do you consider to be the "Definitive Souls Experience"?

What Souls or Soulslike game do you think embodies the Souls experience? I personally think that Dark Souls 1 is the definitive introduction to the genre as well as a very influential game in general. ( You guys already know how important this game is, you don't need me to tell you lol! Plus, I'm probably a bit biased since this was my first souls game. )

Anyway, what game do you consider to be Peak Souls and why?

Edit: I'm trying to say that DS1 is peak Souls for me. Sorry for any confusion with my wording Lol!

Level design vote part 2: Anor Londo vs Undead Burg

Which of these areas do you think has better level design? For me, Undead Burg has better level design than the actual portion of Anor Londo that you play through (not including the portions outside the map of course), but I just love Anor Londo's visuals and vibe. Please share your opinions below!

Also, here's a link to Part 1 in case you missed it: Sen's Fortress vs Undead Parish

Happy gaming everyone and don't go hollow out there!

Level Design Vote part 1: Sen's Fortress vs Undead Parish

Hey guys! Which area has better level design: Undead Parish or Sen's Fortress? I personally prefer Parish just a bit because of the elevator and the memories associated with it! 😂 Feel free to share your favorite below and why.

What were the worst mistakes of your first playthrough?

Hey guys! Dark Souls 1 was my first Fromsoftware game and my introduction to souls, so naturally it holds a special place in my heart. I'd like to know some of the craziest or most ridiculous things that you ended up doing your first time in Lordran. Because I'd never played a game like it at the time, I made some really bad choices that impacted my very first character. But some of my standout bad decisions were that I put 10 levels into resistance and decided to level strength, dexterity, and intelligence at the same time lol! 😂😭 Please share some of your first playthrough horror stories below!

What are your most controversial Dark Souls hot takes?

Mine is that I enjoy the most of the second half of the game. My favorite area in the second half is Tomb of the Giants and my least favorite is Lost Izalith. I like Tomb because there really is no other area like that in a video game I've played before. (No, I'm not trolling. I actually enjoy playing it.) I'd like to know your most controversial hot takes about this game and why you think/feel this way. Let's keep it friendly in here though or else I'll need one of those skull lanterns because it's about to get real dark in here...

I wanted to personally thank everyone that took time to comment and share their opinions on Dark Souls in this conversation in a fun way and help to create a great experience in the community. As a new redditor, my posts this far have been very successful; all thanks to the souls community: you guys Thank you all and sorry if I couldn't reply to every comment yet. I have tried to get to all of them but there's just so many! 🥲 I never expected this amount of support from you all and I'm deeply grateful for it.

The Moment you started really enjoying Souls games

What was the first time you started actually enjoying your first souls game and appreciating it? Since my first game was Dark Souls Remastered, I began to really enjoy the game more when I got to Anor Londo. Once I beat Artorias though, it because one of my favorite games.

Your first Fromsoftware game

My first one was Dark Souls Remastered on the switch 2. I beat it in January and fell in love with souls games afterward. Since then, I have beat both DS3 and Elden Ring. Now I'd like to know what game you guys played first and why you loved it. Personally, I feel that the atmosphere and level design of DS1 is unmatched and the characters are unforgettable.

Edit: Thank you all for responding to my questions and contributing to this post! I deeply appreciate all of your feedback and it's been great to discuss our beloved first experiances in Fromsoftware's games. I hope to continue discussing more and posting more about this kind of topic in the future. Once again, thank you all. Hopefully I'll see you in the next post!

Your top three base game bosses in Dark Souls 3

My top three are:

1st place: Twin princes

2nd place: Abyss Watchers

3rd place: Dragonslayer Armor

I haven't played the dlc's yet, but I'm about to start them. So to honor that, I'd like to know what the community thinks. What are your top three and why?
