I second short a wedding that referred me
So a couple weeks ago I second shot a wedding for a photographer that I’ve never met before. Her social media made her seem pretty experienced but I honestly didn’t do a deep dive.
Once I was there - it was BAD. She was extremely inexperienced and asked me to “run the show”
For a lot of things.
I don’t like overstepping but also her clients don’t deserve the level of disservice the main photographer was providing.
Eg. She forgot to tell them to put their rings on for bride and groom photos before the ceremony. She didn’t know how to direct ANY photos. She carried around a printed Pinterest board to direct photos and even asked me to step in to set them up because she “didn’t know how.” She didn’t know how to direct family portraits and asked me to organize them. She had one camera frame with an 85mm on it, and asked me to take a lot of photos throughout the day because her lens length was too long to get the shot. She had no back up equipment.
There was a massive list of issues I had with the photographer but didn’t want to overstep yet I was repeatedly put in a position to direct things and their client didn’t deserve the level of in-experience the main photographer had so I did it.
I’m fine with that.
But now, the bride has reached out to me to photographer her Moh’s wedding next year.
I didn’t sign a contract with the main photographer but I’m wondering if this is overstepping boundaries or not. Thoughts?
