I’m not a bmw tech by far , I know enough to be dangerous but not as much as you all. I will obviously do everything to maintain, but I’m just curious. everyone talks about how tunable this platform is and how able it is however I don’t see many people talking about the common problems with these. Hell, there may not be many.

1. I understand the timing chain is on the back of the engine are these are common failure point ?
2. Are transfer case failures common ? and if so, at what sort of mileage or torque range, especially considering how tunable this platform is.

I rented this 26’ X5 M lite (so called m sport package) 😂 , in preparation of leasing one in a few months ensuring this is still what I want and not the x3 m60 as I have little girl and wife and want them to be comfortable . I love the car however I get some food and then come back out to a million service warnings no power steering, no tail lamps, no reverse, limited assistance , chassis stability etc.. I then think about the module that’s back there that people have been saying failed. So I parked it and let everything go to sleep for about 10 min inspected the distribution unit ensuring no burning smell or torn cables etc and all was good. And everything came back alive but still have check engine light. Car has 7k miles. Oil m change very recent.

Had to take a drive to Florida from Georgia and I rented this golf GTI from enterprise and I brought along my Ubiden R8 for the stretches of road hint hint. no one talks about how big fella friendly this car is but also how gnarly this thing is because it’s so small and light. 230 hp. Feels insane in this little car and this is coming from somebody who drove a car that’s had 800 to 1000 hp and this is way fun to drive. I can’t imagine what this car could be like even at 400 hp. This thing is a little firecracker
