I read it waaay too young. Set in a dystopian world where criminals are punished by having different animal parts surgically attached to them. There's a scene in a brothel where a woman has a vagina for a mouth above "sad, intelligent eyes" and another has dog's legs.

Main story is about a bird-type person that hacked their wings off for "choice theft" (rape)

I've never had a job that doesn't make me cry

I have a masters in animal psychology. Got halfway through a PhD before burning out horribly. Burnt all my bridges in my speciality. So I have multiple publications but noone to be a reference

Also a vet nursing certificate.

Im partially deaf and have issues with my feet that make standing still for any length of time agony.

I turn 40 this year. I tried doing seasonal work but it was so hard bending and carrying heavy loads: I was crying in the field.

I was volunteering for a charity and enjoying it, until they convinced me to be their fundraising manager. I failed miserably.

I was cleaning in a dog boarding kennel, until 2 dogs attacked me on my third day.

My country currently has record high unemployment. Even the slaughterhouse turned me down.

I feel really hopeless. I have a huge student loan that starts charging interest if I leave the country for more than 6 months.

Burner stole my tools

Hi! I used to be heavily involved with Kiwiburn (NZ).

I gave a friend the key to my storage unit containing all my tools and fabric. For safekeeping while I travelled.

That "friend" rummaged through my belongings and took thousands of dollars worth to Kiwiburn. Lent my tools out for randoms to use to build their art and theme camps without my knowledge, let alone permission.

Now its all gone.

Im just...sad. I know the culture has changed a lot over the last decade, but its not radical self reliance if you're stealing from others

"Friend" stole my belongings

So I gave my friend the key to my storage unit for safekeeping while I went overseas, and the keys to my ebike she promised to buy.

Over the next 12 months the ebike "got stolen" and the unit "wasnt safe so I moved your stuff in with mine". A police report wasn't filed for the ebike because she "knows who has it and is gonna get it back/I'm gonna pay you back"

I get back to NZ. It takes 2 weeks or her canceling and rescheduling to get access to the new unit my stuff is in. Thousands of dollars of gear is missing. She took my brand new tools to a festival, lent them out, and now theyre gone. All of my bras and shirts and shoes got "lost in their chaos". She rummaged through a box of fabric, pulled out a deeply sentimental pride flag to use as a curtain in her van, and now that is also "lost". She used my gas cooker and now its missing key components.

After months of back and forth she was blocked me everywhere.

I literally only have her legal name. The one I was sending $ to periodically ($500 over 10 months)

Is there any way to get some money out of her through disputes tribunal? Its $6000+, but the pride flag has me heartbroken

Can a boarding house take $85 from my bond?

Paid 1 week in advance for a horrible boarding house

Friday night was the last straw: could smell meth and people were stumbling down the hallways. Felt very unsafe as a single woman.

Can they take $85 for leaving with 36 instead of 48hrs notice and for staying less than a month?

Can I refuse to damage my glasses for a seasonal job I never agreed to do?

I got hired for a 6 week seasonal job. I was hesitant, but assured that it was piece rate: $27-33 an hour

I turned up and its been 3 weeks of a completely different, physically brutal job with a literally impossible target to earn 40c more than minimum wage.

Monday its suposed to rain. My provided gear wets out in 30min. Theyre gonna send us into the 2m tall trees to get smacked in the face by ice-encrusted branches. For minimum wage.

Can i refuse because I have prescription lenses Im unwilling to damage further?

Edit: thanks all. My last paycheque was $644 (student loan+short day: was freezing wet, company offered inside work but only for "5 or 6" people. We'e a team of 11 so the people the most wet and cold were pressured to go home) so Im not gonna buy any gear. If they want to send me into the trees they can buy me and the 2 other people with prescription lenses face shields.

I'm so poor

But I want to impress this boy I like. He likes spicy (kiwi hot isnt hot enough). Im more of a kadai or jalfrezi girl myself.

At the moment I've only got garam masala, cumin, cardamom ginger and cloves. It's winter, and cost is a factor. Im thinking rather than buying a bunch of spices, I can lean in on black pepper/green chilli/garlic/ginger/lemon/coriander?

Quick salt cabbage/carrot pickle

Raita

Homemade naan

Chicken tikka (2step marinade with yoghurt/lemon/garlic/ginger, then the best paste "tikka" paste i can afford?)

Chickpea cauliflower rajasthani style?

Gulab jamul: not sure I can spring for this tbh: I might just buy two from the local place and make a cardamom ginger coconut cream.

Bonus points for ideas that dont include nightshades :)

Puffer jacket modifications

Absolute beginner question (I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the AI slop on the internet)

I scored a brand new Salewa puffer jacket for a few dollars (ignore the patch, that was a field repair). However I have freakishly long arms. I have a Kathmandu jacket Im willing to sacrifice to extend the sleeves.

I taught myself to sew as a teen but, but these new ultralight fabrics are...fiddly. The jacket is triple the cost of what I can normally afford, so I dont wanna mess it up!

Any resources you could point me to would be very appreciated.

Hiking food

Hi! I'll be revisiting Kyrgyzstan and doing some longer treks (11 days). I always struggle to get enough calories in during hikes. I'll be buying local veges fruit and nuts, but want to get packaged stuff in Bishkek.

- can you recommend a local cheese brand thats similar to an English cheddar? I quite like kurut, but not enough to rely on it.

- are any of the tinned meats good? I eat tinned corned beef at home, its...ok lol

- I can't remember if milk powder is easily available?

- dried mushrooms?

Thanks in advance!
