Oh go on then, I'll re-watch The Young Ones .. (again..)
I'm already on Episode 3 of Series 1.
I still think back to the day when I discovered "The Fifth Housemate" years ago and how it utterly blew my mind.
I'm already on Episode 3 of Series 1.
I still think back to the day when I discovered "The Fifth Housemate" years ago and how it utterly blew my mind.
Dear lord, I actually did it. I actually completed the game and released it !
And before we start, full disclosure ..
The game was written entirely by Claude AI.
Now I know that's not ideal for a lot of people and I get that, but i've played Chaos almost since the day it was released 40 odd years ago and my love for the game is deep. I wanted a game that could stand alongside it, rather than some AI gimmicky thing that looks stupid and I think I've done that.
I've used all of the original assets from the Spectrum, with all of the sprites, audio and fonts so it honestly looks, feels and plays like the original.
There are a number of additional spells and enhancements to this version. The main one being "Dark Power".
This has been completely re-imagined from the original and if you get hit with Dark Power now, your wizard goes .. insane .. *cough* 👀
One of the most long standing problems in the original has also been addressed. The CPU logic will now look at the previous round before deciding what spells to cast so if you cast a Golden Dragon illusion spell then it won't always be immediately disbelieved.
I don't want to give away the farm and tell you every single new spell and what it does though as that's part of the fun!
The other main enhancement is a new Level 9 skill level. It's not quite "advanced AI" but it's an implementation of a form of AI with greatly improved decision making. The first few games might go by fairly quickly but the longer you play, the more it learns and the challenge should get a lot more involved.
I also want to send a huge thankyou to all of the testers who gave their time to play the game and report back which helped me immensely.
So here it is. Hope you like it.

There is a donation thing on there but it's fine to download it for free either way. I had to use a zip file because Windows smart app control was fully blocking the installer - a pygame thing apparently. Unzip and click "chaos.exe" to get started.
And if anyone has any ideas on where I could promote it, then please let me know!
Just curious really. I've been messing around with Batocera and Rocknix and I'd be interested in potentially flashing it to the internal memory just to see if it improves the performance.
I'd assume Retroid have a recovery image available if anything melted ..
I'd also prefer Rocknix but the lack of audio put the hex on that one.
Not interested in any other sites, just this one. Thanks.
I'm just kind of dipping my toes in at the moment but I'm already at the "Why didn't I do this years ago?" stage :)
I do have an iPhone and one of my smart playlists is a "Recently Added" list so I can separate out the new music I reguarly add. Usually I've got it set to the last 30 days but with Navidrome I'm just trying to test it out with 1 day.
I added an album yesterday after adding my entire library the day before and it's been a full 24 hours since I added it and my "Recently Added" playlist still shows my entire library when I'd ideally like it to just show that 1 album I added yesterday.
This is what i've got and I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Blast from the past :)
Yes, it's actually here !. I actually finished it ..
I'm very happy how it's turned out because it's a game I'd happily play myself and I've been playing Chaos for over 30 years.
Full disclosure right away though - the project is entirely AI coded using Claude
I understand totally that it's not everyone's cup of tea and I respect that, but I've brought 30 years of experience and gameplay to this and a lot of love for the game as well so I'm not just going to throw any old thing together.
It's a z80-accurate recreation of the original right down to the original sprites, fonts and sounds. If you know how to play Chaos, you'll know how to play this.
There have been a number of enhancements including a number of new spells which have been sourced from ideas that Julian Gollop was considering but, I assume, ditched for memory reasons.
(You've already seen the Troll !)
The biggest enhancement is the new Level 9 that should (hopefully) be far more of a challenge based on an implementation of Heuristic AI.
So i'm looking for a few people who would be interested in a copy of the game as it is now to play it for a few weeks and let me know if there are any bugs or issues with it.
It's 99% done and plays very well but there are a few small known issues - none that will really give you too much of a problem though.
I'd also be interested to know if you have any "quality of life" issues as well. Things like particular sounds, graphical things or even if the game is too quick !.
DM me if you're interested and I'll send you a link to download the installer as it's windows-only. it's been scanned and is virus free but you can always paste the link into something like VirusTotal to be sure - even though PyInstaller usually causes these things to have a fit !
Then The New Statesman starts from the very beginning tonight at 9pm

I've got everything Rik and Ade ever did in my collection but I've never seen The New Statesman so maybe time to fix that !
Again ..
I’m sure Lee Cornes did double duty in the first episode as a milkman and the dustman.
I only finished rewatching all of Bottom about six weeks ago.
