WHAT i'm even supposed to do? the messages is sooo vague.

https://preview.redd.it/jw3wsgruixjh1.png?width=617&format=png&auto=webp&s=c78c7173d3e672278f82d00250ea4d7934bf68c7

ANY help would be appreciated.

I'm using Oauth and Calendar API with ONLY calendar.app.created which isn't even supposed to be sensitive.

The app name is exactly the same in the 'Branding' and 'Oauth Clients' sections, which is also exactly the same as in:

- the ONLY h1 in the whole landing page

- title tag

- meta tags (description, abstract, robots, application-name, application-mobile-web-app-title, og:site-name, og:title)

- 'name' under ld+json script

The purpose is described in a paragraph both in english and spanish (the language the site is set to in the lang tag) as:

_____ is a business automation platform designed to assist companies, clinics, and professionals in managing customer inquiries and bookings via WhatsApp with Artificial Intelligence.

Google OAuth 2.0 (Google Sign-In): ______ uses Google OAuth (including openid, email, and profile scopes) to securely authenticate business owners, verify their identity, and grant access to their administrative dashboard to manage virtual assistants and operational parameters.

Google Calendar API: _______ integrates with Google Calendar to check real-time schedule availability, book new appointments requested by clients over WhatsApp, and update, reschedule, or cancel bookings without time slot conflicts.

The lander is a static site with no js that's served in domain.tld, domain.tld/ and domain.tld/index.html (and all those with www....).

The domain is verified as mine, i have a record for that on cloudflare, i added it to even be able to use Oauth, i don't think it's the bot not being able to reach the site.. It's also verified as mine on Postmaster tools so i can send emails as @ mydomain. I seriously don't know how or why this is being triggered.. Like the purpose not being clear idk i guess it could be getting tripped up by spanish but the name not being the same?? where does it even get the name from?? It's EXACTLY the same down to every capitalized letter and space, not a single different character on all the things i mentioned at the beginning of the post. The ToS and PP are ok and are being shown correctly when logging in, it's just those two warnings i can't get rid of.. I'm not using any Google copyrighted images or material, idk, do i need to put R or C or TM after mentioning Oauth or Calendar???

The landing page is behind a cloudflared tunnel that's simply domain.tld, the www is a redirect, but all the links to my site (homepage, approved domain, ToS, PP, approved callbacks) are set without the www in the Google console.

Possible design to avoid the chainmail that doesn't involve bristles.

https://preview.redd.it/926xdmjwzqjh1.png?width=814&format=png&auto=webp&s=0eae4d333f8b47ffad937e898dfcad0c9a933106

Idk how relevant this is, the smarter scrubber is already being produced and shipped and i'm not expecting a v2, i just wanted to share about this type of scrubber that's quite common where i'm from, just a bunch of wire loops, by being a single continuous piece it avoids the loose bristles.

(tbf the defacto way to clean a grill here is still just burning the heck out of it, 2nd most common is onion/paper, but if you have a scrubber it's prob something like this or a straw one).

I don't know how much easier this is to manufacture honestly but it looks like it could be pretty trivialized, it's a continuous loop of thin-er- wire twisted between 2 thick-er- ones, the only difference between this and a bristled one of the same 'spun between 2 wires' (the 'pipe cleaner') type is what you put in between the two thicker ones.

I was kinda surprised this design wasn't mentioned in any of the two videos.

There are also other ones that are more similar to the smarter scrubber but instead of chainmail they use woven wire like a chainwire fence, which im guessing is also a lot cheaper and easier to manufacture than chainmail which requires individual circles to be cut and 'sewn' together.

This also works for 'v' type grills which are quite common in lots of places, i guess in America only the rod or flat ones are used which are better suited for the chainmail type.

THE laptop

100% uptime on this bad boy. Soldered across the power button pads, if there is electricity this piece of shit is running. It has been running for like 8 years now.

I5 4200m, 6gb (2+4) of unmatched speed ram, finely engineered custom cooling solution to reduce noise. Lexar × Painters tape custom ssd. Singular gigabit ethernet.

It has been a dns server, a Minecraft server, a quick n dirty nas, a wake on lan packet sender for my main desktop, an immich server, it can do anything, no computer will ever surpass it. OpenAI has emailed me multiple times asking how i manage such a MACHINE.

It also had a funny era when it used to be a cd ripping station since i still have the cd drive that came with the laptop and it was the only one in my whole house.

Huge shout shoutout to the Fedora server devs for even allowing installation on such a piece of shit, have been loyal to your software since Fedora 29.

Working on an plugin host ;P

https://preview.redd.it/5bfw1r55mshh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c935d0b1313d4b4450f5070e36545b2d92aa2dc4

The whole idea was to have both routing and controls in the same place, the closest i could find to this was Bespoke Synth, but the controls are only allowed as a parametrized version in the routing view, if you want the plugin gui you need a floating window, which i hate, lots of plugins expose poorly named parameters which don't have a clear purpose or meaning without the gui, some others like the guitarix ones decided that the 'bypass' parameter should be inverted so parameterized views means you have to try and find out...

The main objective of this is to be able to have either the parametrized version or the gui version WITHIN the routing view so you can just fullscreen it and forget about it, changing from the gui to the parametrized controls doesn't stop the plugin, audio keeps going without any hitches

I also don't love the 'rack' approaches, it's a mess for sidechains and stereo plugins.

It's currently missing any midi functionality whatsoever, it's the next step, i'll try to have a working version with all the features in a week or two. I want midi to be able to plug to midi ports on plugins (duh) but also control any arbitrary parameter.

As per future features after implementing midi, i want to make 'recursive' workspaces, i.e you can either open a save file or import it to another one, so you can have a big stack of plugins that doesn't take up lots of screen real state, you define inputs, outputs and parameters for that sub-workspace and in the view of the outer one it's a small box with only that exposed.

It's LV2 only and Jack only. If you wre hoping for some kind of native integration for vsts with yaybridge or something, sorry, lol.

Ideas? feedback? any software that already does this so i don't have to build it? seriously couldn't find any that ticked all those boxes.

IRL friends started asking about Linux recently

Multiple ones have done so, not only the more tech inclined ones, those already have an opinion about it, but the casual pc users and gamers.

And honestly idk what to tell them, i'm already kinda their default 'it issues solver' so honestly i don't wanna deal with more headhaches, i already have enough with random hardware failures and so on...

Of course they still have issues with Windows, but they had so many that we've been over them 20 times so they can usually already fix stuff by themselves, i just don't wanna start from scratch again teaching them everything every time something inevitably breaks.. Specially since it's so different and they are sooo used to the Windows way of fixing stuff (something hidden 20 menus deep in control panel or a registry edit or a reinstall)...

It's weird, Linux for the advanced user is a no brainer, they can tweak it and fix stuff, it's also a no brainer for the super casual user (mom, dad, uncle, etc), most of them are already running it, i just told them "here is the store, treat it like an iPhone" and it just works as long as they don't do anything stupid, which they don't because they only care about a web browser and some sort of word+excel alternative.

The issue is these 'intermediate' people that will inevitably try to install hyprland 2 weeks in and then start calling me at 11p.m when they are staring at a tty. I have no particular issues with AI but honestly i can't just tell them 'just go to chatgpt' either because they are all on free plans and will prob ask about it on a chat that's already compressed the context 20 times so they will get a bullshit answer, and even if they don't, i had gemini/claude just blindly assume im on Ubuntu 18 so many times it's not even funny anymore, and it won't even warn you about it.

They know enough to be dangerous but not enough to be self-sufficient. They want the customization of Linux, but they expect the safety nets and GUI fallback mechanics of Windows.

Idk, it's a bittersweet flavour because it's such a weird scenario.. I just end up telling them 'try it if you want just don't expect me to solve all your issues, it's not Windows, stuff is not the same, it will take some getting used to', but i'm also aware saying that just means "don't try it" to them and this might be the only time they consider it..

One of them actually tried and had some super bizarre issue with pipewire lagging like crazy, something i've never seen before and honestly i couldn't fix, i guess it was some driver issue with his soundchip (cheap bottom of the line asrock mobo).

All of them also seemed to have gone down some weird ass rabbit hole of niche distros and come up with the most devious shit, i just end up recommending the more usual ones, but again, all of them -the distros- have *some* sort of issue which i'm already used to and know how to fix but it could be an absolute dealbreaker for a new user.

They also seem to have fallen for some sort of false advertising that's apparently going on in social media about Linux giving double the performance or some stupid and unrealistic figures like that which is only the case if you are running the most bloated and malwared Windows install of all time, which is not the case for any of them, they are all running *some* variation of a decent Windows isntall (IOT, LTSC, Enterprise, whatever + debloated + all the bullshit disabled)

This social media hype also seems to particularly target 'low end' pcs, the issue is that 'low end' for a tech influencer is a ryzen 3 and a 2060 with 16gb of ram, in the real world 'low end' is a 4th gen i5 with an igpu that doesn't support Vulkan and won't be good for shit under Linux.

I'M NOT ASKING FOR DISTROS PLEASE DON'T START SPAMMING YOUR FAV DISTRO THAT WILL *MAKE IT JUST WORK* I'M JUST TRYING TO OPEN UP A DEBATE. I'M ALSO NOT ASKING HOW TO DEAL WITH MY FRIENDS OR WHAT TO TELL THEM, IT'S JUST SET AND SETTING FOR THE FOLLOWING:

My point/question/debate opener is:

Did it become too popular too fast before being ready? Is the YT/Social media hype being overblown and actually a negative for Linux? Is the intermediate user the bane of this OSs existance? Is it time to finally recognize there are enough distros and almost no meaningful difference between them aside from the program you run to install other programs? (and even that has been made irrelevant by flatpaks)

Is it also time to recognize we've become used to quite some amount of bullshit and are just now inmune to it? like the whole fact that flatseal exists is dumb, if a program needs a permission to work properly it should be able to ask for it, it shouldn't require the end user to search for a fix and manually apply it. Same for GearLever/MenuLibre, it should be a DEFAULT feature of EVERY DE out there...

Lots of the criticism is IMHO more than valid and you usually see it deemed as 'user error' or 'skill issue' in online communities like this one.

If we are being honest, most people won't have the experience of the SteamDeck, they will have *some* quirky hardware that refuses to cooperate or is missing drivers/utility software (AIOs with screens, gaming keyboards, etc, there are alternatives but for the regular user nothing beats the official software). Even stuff like AMD Adrenalin has no real counterpart... Dolby atmos drivers missing making multi thousand dollar laptops sound like garbage bt speakers...

ProtonDb is a mess full or wrong reports or commands that have been deprecated for years, etc, etc.

Do you think this will mean more 'early' adopters -> more polished experience? i sure whish so but i'm scared it will be more people trying it and not liking the rough corners -> massive rejection and a forever stain.

I think everyone is too focused in the ~10% less performance for dx12 games on Nvidia and just missing the bigger picture, the daily struggles matter a lot more...

Even on 'certified' hardware there are still issues, i own a ThinkPad that shipped with Ubuntu form the factory, battery life is worse than in Windows, speakers sound like shit, trackpoint has less functionality since it's limited by whatever the Gnome folks deemed acceptable to patch in to libinput (don't even get me started on libinput), half the function keys are bound to absolutely nothing and require a cli program that Lenovo posted on a forum in 2018 to rebind, configuring charge limits requires tlp or sudo tee'ing values to a random file... Just so much nonsense.

Favorite apps for 8.1? anyone dares to use it as a daily?

Basically, just found an old 630 on a drawer, unlocked the bootloader, enabled interop and all that, i already sideloaded a couple apps but it's mostly just games because i wanted to try if it was properly working..

Are there any forums/hubs/straight up alternative stores for community apps? i already got myself a copy of vs2013 and i'm gonna give a shot at attempting to port xash3d (source engine foss remake) over the next couple weeks/months. I just wanted to know what is the default place to get coomunity made apps instead of archivals of old app store stuff (which to be honest is mostly just half assed games).

Might also attempt a working WhatsApp web client i'm just not sure the 630 will handle go's runtime at all.. I was planning on binding WhatsMeow to C and then try to make it using WinRT sdk.

It's amazing how fluid and smooth this phone is, even being a SUPER budget phone from 12 years ago... I also found a couple old Androids from that era and they are unbearable to use lmao.

How to get rid on the translation bar ??

Title typo fix: How to get rid OF the translation bar?

Anybody knows how to properly and once and for all disable translations? I want spanish sites to be in spanish and english sites to be in english and sites that have both to remain that way instead of half assing a translation making me think the whole place is in a single language.

https://preview.redd.it/3cjd6lmnyifh1.png?width=1411&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a221553a5cb6904f195474b54d080febcf9b756

According to some people there should be an option 'Don't translate X language' on here, but there isn't.

https://preview.redd.it/jm5plolmyifh1.png?width=486&format=png&auto=webp&s=57d598ad36cc0b5ab3e88e54c86428da69c6fd8b

It happens on half the sites i visit it's so dumb, changing my language from spanish to english or viceversa is not a solution, it just makes the popup appear on the other 50% of sites that are in the other language..

From what i understand the issue is that the setting in the screenshot doesn't control that bar, it controls this thing:

https://preview.redd.it/3feuqk910jfh1.png?width=392&format=png&auto=webp&s=aebaa86e8e5bfbd086b769f57b3f2289a197d95e

Honestly i don't even know where that white bar comes from but it's not from the sites, it doesn't show up on Chromium nor Firefox nor Opera.

I've also removed all languages from here:

https://preview.redd.it/8apiavw11jfh1.png?width=1352&format=png&auto=webp&s=362ee36cd2a91fc1b3325a56e010cf2f75bbb9bb

I've also tried adding them, adding lots of them, adding my regional variant, just the general one, NOTHING gets rid of the translation bar.

The worst thing is that it doesn't even remember i clicked on 'go to original site', next url i click inside the site even if it's under the same domain IT WILL GO BACK TO TRANSLATING IT.

Some people also said to set region to US on the Google search site, still getting prompted to translate.

https://preview.redd.it/nc0ttkmc2jfh1.png?width=569&format=png&auto=webp&s=2271837ae7eea12e684ccd212ce54183a62ad50c

Chrome version 150.0.7871.186.

(fedora linux, official build from the chrome site, so via .rpm, the same thing happens on the flatpak though, already tried).

i used to run Chromium but i was having issues with codecs on Twitch so i decided to move to regular Chrome, now i can watch live streams but this thing is unbearable.

Shortcuts to make dual booting suck a little bit less.

The idea is to get clickable icons/shortcuts that reboot to Linux from Within Windows and vice-versa. See the final product in the attached video.

Requisites/notes:

- UEFI boot, this won't work for BIOS/Legacy/CSM/whatever you wanna call it.

- (optional) find icons you like for both your Linux distro and Windows. Convert the Linux icon to .ico format since that is what Windows's shortcuts take (you can easily find online converters), for the Windows icon (the one that will be used from within Linux) a .png is fine.

- This directly changes the boot order from your motherboard, if you have a Windows entry in your Grub/bootloader of preference it's probably redundant for this, it won't hurt though.

- This doesn't touch any secure boot related settings, you can keep it on, don't worry about it.

On the Windows side:

- Create a folder in a place you are sure you won't delete it accidentally.

- Inside it, place your .ico icon and create a file named linux_reboot.ps1

- Open PowerShell as admin once, we will use it to see the description of your distro since it changes based on which one you use.

- Run bcdedit /enum firmware

- You will get an output something like this:

* Here there will be prior entries that are irrelevant for this process, just find the one for your Linux distro, like: *
Firmware Application (101fffff)
-------------------------------
identifier {default or guid}
device partition=\\Device\\HarddiskVolume6
path \\EFI\\FEDORA\\SHIM.EFI
description Fedora

- Remember the 'description' field, it's usually just the distro name but it could also be 'grub' or your bootloader's name.

- Open the .ps1 file you created earlier with notepad or any text editor and inside it put:

$bcdOutput = bcdedit /enum firmware
$linuxGuid = $null
$currentGuid = $null
foreach ($line in $bcdOutput) {
    if ($line -match '^identifier\s+({[a-f0-9-]+}|{default})') {
        $currentGuid = $matches[1]
    }
    if ($line -match 'description\s+<HERE_GOES_YOUR_DESCRIPTION_NAME>') {
        $linuxGuid = $currentGuid
        break
    }
}
if ($linuxGuid) {
    if ($linuxGuid -ne "{default}") {
        bcdedit /default $linuxGuid
    }
    shutdown /r /t 0
} else {
    Write-Error "Linux entry not found in EFI boot manager. Aborting."
    exit 1
}

- Make sure to replace the <> with your actual description from the previous step (in my case it would be Fedora), the <> also get replaced, they are not part of the command. Just put the description after the s+. '<>' just indicates a placeholder, remember this i will keep using that notation in the rest of the post.

- Save the file and right click it -> send to -> create desktop shortcut.

- Once the shortcut is on the desktop, right click it and go to properties.

- On properties change the target from just

C:\whatever\whatever\linux_reboot.ps1

to:

C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -NoExit -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "C:\whatever\whatever\linux_reboot.ps1"

- Make sure you quote the path to the script like in the example above, otherwise it won't work.

- While on properties, click on 'Advanced' and tick 'Run as administrator'.

- Click on 'change icon' and select the .ico file from the beginning.

- Move the shortcut to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs so it shows up in your start menu.

On the Linux side:

- Create a folder in a place you are sure you won't delete it accidentally.

- Inside it put your .png icon and create a file named windows_reboot.sh

- Create a file named windos_reboot.desktop in ~/.local/share/applications/

- Inside the .sh file put:

#!/bin/bash

WIN_BOOT_NUM=$(efibootmgr | grep -i "Windows Boot Manager" | grep -oP 'Boot\K[0-9A-Fa-f]{4}')

if [ -n "$WIN_BOOT_NUM" ]; then
    efibootmgr -n "$WIN_BOOT_NUM"
    systemctl reboot
else
    echo "ERROR: Windows Boot Manager not found in efibootmgr output." &gt;&amp;2
    exit 1
fi

- Make the script executable; open a terminal in the same directory and run:

chmod +x ./windows_reboot.sh

- If your distro doesn't use systemd you will need to replace systemctl reboot with the appropiate command, if you distro doesn't use systemd you can probably figure it out on your own. If you don't know if your distro uses sytemd or not, it does, don't worry about it.

- Inside the .desktop file put:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=&lt;NAME_YOU_WANT_IN_THE_APPS_MENU&gt;
Comment=&lt;DESCRIPTION_YOU_WANT_WHEN_HOVERING_THE_ICON&gt;
Exec=pkexec /bin/bash &lt;ABSOLUTE_PATH_TO_YOUR_SCRIPT&gt;
Icon=&lt;ABSOLUTE_PATH_TO_YOUR_ICON&gt;
Terminal=false
Categories=System;

- Make sure to replace all the <> placeholders, also you can set Terminal to true if you want it to open up a terminal instead of doing it silently, it could be useful if you wanna add better logging, this is just a barebones example.

- You might need to log out and log back in for the entries to refresh

That's all! enjoy! feel free to ask any questions.

Edit: if you wanna make it simpler and you never move your drives around you can replace the scripts with:

Windows(ps1):

bcdedit /default &lt;HARDCODE_YOUR_UUID_HERE&gt;

shutdown /r /t 0

Linux(sh):

(first manually run efibootmgr | grep -i "Windows Boot Manager" and note the 4 digit code after the word 'Boot', will be something like 002A or 0009 or 001F, you get the idea, don't include the trailing '*' -if present at all-)

efibootmgr -n &lt;HARDCODE_YOUR_4_DIGIT_CODE_HERE&gt;

systemctl reboot

I just made the scripts this way so they can adapt to a disk changing port or an nvram refresh, also they can fail gracefully instead of just rebooting in to the bios if some if some of the disks are removed or fail, but if you prefer more minimal solutions by all means go with the 2-liners.

HOW are you daily driving inmutable distros?

Edited because people cannot read and just want to get mad defending the stuff they like. I don't really care about this if no one is gonna even attempt to provide an actual solution instead of just telling me "it works fine for me specifically for the usecases you said you don't care about, skill isue. Also btw i don't do any of the stuff you actually care about so somehow still skill issue figure it out n00b get r3kt".

Favorite way to get games in Linux?

Basically, i'm a couple months (hopefully) away from being able to release my game, what's your favorite way to get games in Linux? just regular old Steam?

The game is native, no proton/wine needed, but form my own experience the Steam client *can* be subpar in Linux sometimes, would you be interested in getting games as flatpaks or appimages? or even a Windows style installer you can make executable and double click? or a install sh sscript? or just an already 'installed' .zip or .tar.gz you can just extract and run the game?

The way i see it flatpaks are great for games, but at the same time some of the libraries i use are not in the freedesktop SDK, so i would need to do quite a lot more work, appimages are a good idea but the fact that they get no desktop entry and no icons on gnome just makes them look cheap and unfinished. Windows style installer i guess is good for Windows refugees but would need extra instructions for the regular Linux users (something like the davinci resolve installer) and also for the Windows users because you first need to make it executable (same as an appimage).

Personally i'd love to ship native packages for each distro, but honestly ain't no way i'm doing all that. Aur has a terrible reputation right now, most Fedora users are unaware that COPR exists, ppas are ok i guess...

I'm having trouble setting this up so it just goes to the clean present on anything and everything except the laptop speakers.

It's Ok for wired connections as they always register under 'headphones', but BT devices will show up as a new output for each device, so i'm finding myself connecting the laptop to some bt device and having to go to this menu to add a new rule because the way it is now it just stays on whatever profile it was before if the device is not in the list.

I can't really find a way to set a default preset either.
