Part 2 - Tech guy that said MOBO was fried managed to "revive it" when I refused to buy his overpriced chinese replacement MOBO... What happened here?

UPDATE:

Yesterday I had a disagreement with the tech shop because they tried to push a new b450m for twice market price on me. It was actually a normal price if it had been fabricated by a reputable brand like MSI, but he cleverly omitted that it was actually a Chinese brand with barely any information online and that goes for less than half market price of what he was charging. It's also very popular around here. I refused their mobo, bought the exact same Chinese model from a shop right next to theirs (for the normal price) and asked them to use that instead.

This got the tech guy angry. He started asking where I bought it. I lied and told him to just do the repair, even without warranty. That was yesterday.

Today he messaged me saying that he managed to "repair" my old fried mobo, and that I can return the chinese mobo to wherever I bought it from since I won't need it anymore. Since it was a repair he charged me thrice as much as he was going to charge for swapping the mobo... I was forced to pay since he was keeping my PC hostage and I need it to work. Everything is working fine.

So it seems like my mobo hadn't fried at all. I'm just confused on what he could have done to make it work again. I tried power cycling, removing the mobo's battery and repositioning the RAM, and idk what else I could have tried.

Also I am aware that this guy ripped me off and I will seek legal action. But I'm just trying to understand what was going on with the PC?

Fried MOBO because my cat walked over the power plug. What can I do in the future to avoid this?

I've accidentally kicked my power plug a couple times before and it would just turn the entire PC off with no damage.

This time my cat walked over the plug and probably softened it. I pushed the computer a bit to reach it and this little push I assume was enough to further undo the power plug, which made some spark noises and made the PC start rebooting by itself. Once I secured the power plug my MOBO was fried.

I'm replacing the MOBO but also interested in how to avoid this problem in the future?? Even an UPS wouldn't have helped here since the problem was the plug itself going into the PC. Thanks in advance!
