Job advice/IR offer in MCOL

As in the title.

Current job:
- gen surg at large academic center, employed by state
- no OR time. Inpatient rounding with residents, but mainly outpatient admin tasks, placing pre-op orders, handling post-op patients, and all of the attendings’ inbox
- 120k salary in MCOL area, no guaranteed yearly bonus. No COL adjustments. Very difficult to get raises
- ~10 minute commute, which could change as I plan to move
- schedule M-Th 4 x 10, no weekends, holidays, or call
- paid parental leave

Job offer:
- private practice IR
- 70% procedural, was promised extensive training and that I would be practicing at the top of my license in terms of scope of procedures I will be doing
- 140k starting salary, with guaranteed yearly raises over the next 3 years with opportunity to negotiate after year 3. Would be making 160k at that point
- 40 + minute commute currently, which will change as I plan to move. Likely before I start
- schedule M-F, 8-5 (try to get out at 4 most days), no weekends, holidays, or call
- no paid parental leave

There are obvious pros and cons to each job such as commute, salary, benefits. I’m planning on moving in the next few months and wouldnt start until the end of the year at the earliest due to credentialing. So my commute to the new job could be closer to 30 minutes, and commute to current job would be about 25 minutes if/when I move.

I do not plan to stay at my current job anyway for a variety of reasons. Mainly, I do not find it stimulating whatsoever and I feel like a glorified triage nurse/MA. Also, pay. Obviously you can’t beat the schedule and current commute.

I do not have children currently, but working on it. I can make the no paid parental leave work.

Thoughts? Would appreciate any and all thoughts on making the switch!

First application

First time ever doing press ons! I never really wear my nails long so it’s a lot to get used to at once. How bad do they look honestly?

Job advice + switching specialties

Hi everyone!

This is a hypothetical career change from general surgery to IR. Context- 3 years experience in HCOL area

Current role:
- gen surg at large academic center
- no OR time
- 1/2 day post op clinic per week, lots of inbox for all of our surgeons
- 4 10 hour shifts a week, no weekends, holidays, or call
- 120k salary + state retirement benefits
- little opportunity for career advancement and growth, including salary. No built in salary adjustments for inflation
- 5-10 minute commute

Potential role:
- IR
-70% procedural, 30% clinical
- M-F 8-5pm, no weekends, holidays, or call
- 35+ minute commute
- 401 k match (not sure how much)
- salary and compensation structure (not sure about the specifics yet)

There are obvious pros and cons, but I am curious if anyone would make the switch and if so, what would be the minimum salary you would accept?

Interventional pain management?

Looking to make a career change and I’m exploring various options including IR. I know IR is incredibly difficult to break into and I have been seeing intervention pain mgmt pop up a lot. For those that work in this field (with no opioid medication mgmt) what is your experience like? I know very little about this field so tell me everything about work-life balance, patient load, compensation etc.

I currently work in general surgery inpatient and outpatient 4 10’s no weekends or holidays. No OR time I’m basically a glorified inboxologist and it’s very unfulfilling to say the least.

Canon powershot fun

I found my sisters old canon powershot sd780 is. I’m no artist but I love taking casual shots. I’ve been having so much fun with this camera. These are unedited and I think they look pretty cool

Fragrance help

Hi everyone! I know nothing about fragrances and I’m looking for a fragrance “routine”. I want to be that girl that smells good all of the time, but not overpowering. From my research, the best way to achieve this is through layering with a good shampoo/conditioner, body lotion/butter, body/hair mist, perfume for going out, and deodorant.

I really have only ever used Ouai St. Bart’s, which I love and Burberry Her. Again, I don’t know anything about fragrances, so I’m not sure what notes I like and dislike.

Does anyone have product recommendations? Would love to hear other’s routines!
