My husband and I are relocating to a new state from Kerala, and we were supposed to start our journey today at 5 a.m. We had arranged for some household items to be transported and contacted Kerala Roadways Private Limited for the move.

We packed everything and were informed that they would arrive by 7:30 a.m. Since 5 a.m. was not convenient for them, we adjusted our plans accordingly.

It’s now 10:30 a.m., and we are still waiting.

Since morning, we’ve been getting constant updates like “we’re nearby,” “we’ll reach by 8:30,” then “9:30,” then “we’re at the first road,” but nobody has arrived yet. We’ve been sitting with all our packed belongings for hours, unable to leave or make alternate arrangements.

Just putting this here so others are aware. Please don’t rely on them if you have a time-sensitive move planned.

I’ll be moving to Theni soon from Kerala, and while I’m excited about the change, I’m also quite concerned about safety as I’ll most likely be living alone.

I’d really appreciate honest insights, especially from women or anyone familiar with the area:

1. Is Theni safe for a woman to live alone?

2. Are there specific areas or neighbourhoods that are considered safer and more suitable? Or places I should avoid?

3. How is it in terms of safety at night, public transport, and general day-to-day movement?

4. What are the transportation options like (buses, autos, cabs)? Are they reliable and safe, especially for daily commute and late evenings?

5. Any precautions you’d strongly recommend for someone new to the place?

6. Good and safe areas to stay (budget-friendly but secure)?

7. Food options that are clean and reliable?

8. What the local community is like, and how easy it is to settle in?

I don’t speak fluent Tamil yet (I’m planning to learn), so I’d also like to know how manageable that is in the beginning.

Any advice, experiences, or things I should be aware of would really help me feel more prepared. Tysm!
