[Beginner] Rogue/Monk? Maybe?

Hey guys, happy to see so much traffic here. I'm looking at delving into the multiplayer for the first time, with some friends and local modules. There's a certain kind of character that I like to play in most RPGs and I'm hoping you can help me translate that into something that'll be fun, mechanically.

The broad strokes is that he's a retired spy/ninja type guy that fights unarmed. When unarmed is nonviable in a game, I play a kind of medical ninja that heals, poisons, and stabs. I generally prefer one really powerful hit to many small hits for that character. I've even played him as a Rogue/Paladin that uses smite, in other games. The important part across all characters is some ability to do stealthy things, for my information-gathering roleplay.

I've got plenty of experience with DnD but I never tried very hard at builds. My understanding is that single-dagger can't really produce an exceptionally strong hit and that rogues lean a bit more towards many hits, to proc many sneak attacks. Thus, I'd like to try to make the unarmed rogue work. It's totally fine for that character to do many hits. Kamas are not my first choice but they won't ruin my day, either.

I am not interested in utilizing Shadowdancer for the Hide In Plain Sight, at this time. My group are not heavy minmaxers and it is unlikely that I'll need extreme optimization to contribute.

Does anyone have general or specific advice for translating this character concept into something functional for Neverwinter Nights : Enhanced Edition multiplayer?

Nerds Wanted // Moving Back to Corpus

Hey guys, 36M from Flour Bluff here. Due to some life events (lol rent prices), I'll be moving back to the bluff. I don't have many friends left and never got into the local gaming scene. If you are interested in any of the following topics, please feel free to hit me up here or by email at fk@crabsoft.download .

  • Tabletop Roleplaying Games (hopefully finding playtesters for my own system or getting involved with a library)
  • Video Games (shooters are fine but only shooters is probably a bad match, Ultima Online and Metal Gear Solid 3 are my top games alltime)
  • Game Development (both video games and traditional)
  • Game Design (my true passion)
  • Programming (not at all interested in AI generated stuff)
  • Linux (Arch btw)

The following things, I have no experience with but am super interested in trying out. Maybe you could be my guide or fellow novice?

  • Historical crafts (hand sewing, blacksmithery, construction, handicraft, etc)
  • LARP (combat is fun but way more interesting with layers on top)
  • Bushcraft/Hiking/Camping/Fishing (currently out of shape but we can just fix that?)
  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Cycling
  • Cooking
  • Gardening
  • Musical instruments
  • Scrap engineering and repairs
  • Rollerblading
  • Contributing to the cultural revolt against the tech overlords who would purport to decide our futures (idk, offline stuff, human-to-human interaction, analog, field notes, for the sake of maintaining our sanity)

I don't drink. I don't smoke. I'm happily married. I have an abundance of free time but a limitation of funds. I can't drive (a thing with my eyes/brain). I don't mind working for free. I just wanna hang out, you know?

Recruiting for My Indie Game (Words of Power) YouTube Sessions

Hey guys, I'm just looking for folks who might be interested in joining a little casual, non-commercial project.

I make a game called Words of Power. It replaces stats with user-generated words that provide bonuses when they are relevant. They can also be combined with randomly-drawn words (like from a deck) to produce one-time magical effects. It's all very contextual and descriptive.

I've been working on this game for some time but I'm getting a little sick (and fucking tired) of running one-shot playtests. So, I'm just jumping both feet into an indefinite campaign. I'm going to record it and post it on YouTube. I'm hoping that some actual footage of the game being played might make it easier to contextualize for newcomers.

I have no commercial aspirations. I'm not a big YouTuber. I'm not some amazing GM. I don't have a high production quality. I don't even use VTTs, most of the time. I actually just want to help build a community of (what I consider to be) proper roleplayers (wip). I'm tired of folks making it harder than it needs to be to just hop in a game and have fun.

Currently, I have recruited two players (previous playtesters), that are pretty excited to play every other Thursday around 8pm EST. They would like to have at least one more player but preferably 2-3. We will most likely use my somewhat generic fantasy homebrew world. You wouldn't need to be familiar with the game rules or anything (it's super easy). You would need to video chat and be recorded (not streamed). I don't run a meat grinder game but I also don't pull punches. Death happens.

If you're at all interested in helping to build up a community of people, who are as interested in each other's characters as their own and believe that bringing those characters to life is the fun part - that both killing monsters and chasing ghosts is equally fun because it's all roleplaying, please feel free to email(fk@crabsoft.download) or add me on Discord(theluckycrab).

Jobs?

My wife is having a heck of a time finding entry level, grunt work in this town. She managed to get on at a gas station but management is pretty unhinged and every day is like a ticking time bomb. She's applied at everywhere on Indeed and directly to HEB/the schools a few times.

Where do you go job hunting in Victoria?

What's Iconic in Vintage Story?

Hey guys, working on a kind of goofy side project that aims to capture the ~feels~ of playing Vintage Story. Any experience, event, item, or feeling that you think really gets the vibe right would be helpful to talk about.

Succession / Bloodlines

A succession, or bloodlines, game is one where you play until a standardized breakpoint and then pass the save on to the next person in the circle. They play until the next breakpoint and pass it on to the next person. Eventually, it makes it back around to you and the seeds you sowed have become unrecognizable horrors. The most famous example of a succession game is probably from Dwarf Fortress, Boatmurdered.

I'm thinking of starting one for Vintage Story. This is what I have so far but maybe you've got some good recommendations or could link me to some existing on-going ones.

--------

The Rules :

Vanilla, just to cut down on setup and conflicts for now

You have inherited the land! You may do with it what you wish.

You will play for either one month (month length tbd) or until you die

It's nice but not required for you to do some level of journaling about your time, initial thoughts, ambitions, etc

If you survive until the night of the last day of the month, you are allowed to leave a one-line wish for the next person to optionally fulfill

If you die, you cannot write any additional details after the fact, must include how you died, and must jump time forward 3 months before sending the save. Whatever items you died with are gone forever, do not go back and leave them for the next guy.

---------

Example : May 1, I traveled North out of the forest and identified the homestead. I should have expected such rough land from the low low price. Still, I can see potential in these jagged hills.

May 2, I began by securing my camp with a fence. I dug a wide moat around the few crops that I was able to plant. This will be the engine that drives my building.

Farmer Thomas was killed by a bear.

>>>>> /time setmonth aug

>>>>> sends save to next player

Aug 1, I have found my father's homestead, beyond the forest. It's little more than a hobo camp and will not keep me warm in the winter.

Wish : I hope the next ruler of this land will be able to repair the translocator in the Eastern Mine.

What is the Wooden Club good for?

There have been some balance changes lately, right? Is the basic club any more useful than before? Is it only for bopping rabbits?

I've read many comments from people, who say they just dig a few trenches early on to passively capture a lot of animals. I'm not talking about like a one-off bear hole to kill a bear (pro-tip, just crouch and stab). I mean this is an actual feature of your base that you plan and execute.

How many of you are actually doing this? What other earlygame strategies or base features do you rely on?
