Emotionally Abusive Husband/Not having a supportive family or friends
Hello! I got married 2 years ago, and it hasn't been a good marriage since day 1. It was a love marriage; even though my family agreed and we had a good wedding, I do not have any support from my family, as it was my decision.
In the first weeks of marriage, I knew this would not work out. The only reason I stayed was because of my father, thinking my decision to end this marriage would hurt him.
Now, the marriage has reached its peak, where I am unable to live with him anymore. In these 2 years, we have been living like strangers/roommates most of the time. 7 months ago, when the abuse peaked, I finally dared to tell my husband that we should get a divorce.
He further manipulated me into therapy, and whenever I asked about it, he would not answer. So I looked for a therapist myself, and I heard him talk to that therapist on the phone and told her that "my wife has some issues" and we are seeking therapy for it. I heard this, but I gaslit myself into thinking that it may not be true. In the first few sessions, I noticed the therapist was not believing anything I was saying, and she was arrogant a few times. I was also short on my finances, and I quit the therapy.
On the other hand, he shares a toxic relationship with his family, especially with his mother (she passed away last year). His mother and father have shouted at me and yelled at me so many times, and I have always told my husband about it, but he denies it. Even if they do it in front of him, he denies it.
His mother would call and manipulate him every day and bring issues into our marriage; every time she calls or texts, he will suddenly pick up a fight with me. Now that she has passed away, his sister has taken over her role; she is also manipulative and brings fights between us. The same with his father too.
It has been a few months since my husband and I have completely stopped talking, and last week he messaged me that he wants to fix the marriage (our 2nd year anniversary is coming up). As much as I had completely detached and had plans to leave the marriage once I sorted out my finances, I thought there may be some tiny hope.
I replied to him with my concerns, and he started repeating his passive-aggressive abuse even more. I couldn't tolerate it anymore, and yesterday I told him, It is good that we separate, and currently my finances are not good, so I need some time, and the first thing he asks is, 'How much alimony do I need?" :(
This is something I am clear with myself, that I do not want to take anything from him, and I told him that, but it is really hurtful that he thinks of me like that.
He blames me for everything. He has mental health issues and has tried to commit suicide after marriage, and he blames it on me. Recently, he has started taking antidepressants, and he blames it on me for that. He has created a bad image about me with his family, and he is so good at manipulation and making things in his favour (like he did with the therapist); I am so scared of what else he will do in court and when we proceed with the divorce.
With no finances to move out and unable to work on my business coz of constant abuse, with no support from anyone, I am completely shattered and broken, as the path seems blocked.
I know this is not a place to seek legal support. I want to know if there is anyone who has dealt with similar situations and what my next steps could be. There is nothing much I can do in terms of the smear campaign; my only goal is to keep myself safe and secure until I earn some money to move out. Thank you for listening.
