Optimum Charging Me When I Never Used Service

I was initially going to move to a new apartment and had signed up for Optimum. Due to an issue with the apartment, I ended up not moving. I called to cancel before they even sent the equipment but they sent it anyway. The day I received it, before even setting up, I called to cancel again. The person on the phone confirmed it and I returned the equipment in person at a store. Fast forward a month later to yesterday and they charged my bank account. I call them and they confirm they cancelled it and removed my bank and would issue a refund. They said I would receive an email to confirm both after an hour on the phone with 3 different departments that all said they could only handle one thing at once (cancellation, refund, changing my account payments). Never got any confirmation and don’t want to get charged next month either. If I were broke, I could have overdrafted or not had enough to pay other bills. Filed an FCC report and still nothing.

Any recourse?

German Roaches?

From one night. Started placing Advion around a few days ago. Just re-upped yesterday and this was last night’s haul + 6 or more of various sizes across other trap last night. Exterminator coming back again today. How long do I have to deal with this in your best guess? Very upsetting as I just moved in!

Success with German Roaches?

Moved into my apartment today. Just as I was grabbing the keys, the leasing agent conveniently told me that they spotted some roaches and are having an exterminator come in a few days, then blamed the previous tenant for never taking care of the issue. I go into the apartment, midday, and immediately see several small roach corpses. As I’m piling in boxes, I see two lives roaches separately in the living area and bed area exploring my boxes/things I’ve laid out. Apparently there was one earlier treatment but the fact that I saw two live roaches in daytime really worries me that it’s a big infestation. I just got a new sofa/bed for this apartment and am worried that they’ll be affected, along with my desktop gaming PC.

Has anyone seen a noticeable difference after two exterminator sessions? My building offers twice a month sessions. Chances I’ll have to do twice a month visits going forward?

Any Renter’s Insurance that Covers Bed Bug Damage? (NYC)

I know that the landlord is in charge of treatment but I’ve heard that bed bugs can ruin clothes, furniture, and even electronics. I’m wondering if there’s any personal property protection I can get against bed bug damage, since I know only a small handful of policies offer this. This may be even rarer in NYC where I am.

[NYC] Applications Asking for Landlord Reference but Leaving Due to Poor Management

Hi all. First time apartment hunting after living in my current place for 7 years, due to finally having the ability to fund a move. Most apartments I'm looking at are asking for my landlord's number and/or explicitly asking for a reference. However, I am leaving due to issues such as lack of heat, a broken refrigerator they won't replace, pest issues, and most importantly, a lack of safe drinking water. I'm curious how to go about filling out these applications when they ask "Reason for Leaving" or when they ask for a Landlord's phone number. Any successful experiences? My previous two landlords all liked me but that was years ago, though some applications ask for their information.

Moving Due to Issue with Landlord - How to Address in Application?

Hey everyone. I've had issues with my landlord for the 7 years I've been in my current apartment (plumbing issues, broken refrigerator they won't address, heat issues, etc.) and am finally in a position where I can afford a move. However, most applications are asking for a landlord reference and/or reason why I'm moving. I'm wondering for the folks who have moved due to poor property management, how I should best address this? Thanks!
