Loud squeaky sound from [De’Longhi EC860]

Hi! I’ve had this machine for a while and a couple of years ago it started making this loud squeaky/chirpy sound when making espresso. It does not make that sound when using then steamer/frother.

I tried having it serviced, but was told it was fine and the person said the labor really wasn’t worth it because this machine is not really made to be serviced easily. I was told to keep using it, which I have, and it still produces great espresso, just very loud loudly.

Thoughts on what could be causing this? Is this something that I can try to fix myself? (No, I do not have experience working on espresso machines hahaha).

I de-scale it today, but no changes.
That makes that sound with or without the portafilter.

Soy Curls

Where is everyone buying their soy curls these days? Where I’m at, I can’t find them in stores anymore.

Publix: certain locations used to have soy chunks and TVP, but not anymore
Whole Foods: I asked for soy curls and TVP and multiple people had NO idea what I was talking about. (is it me or has WF been reducing their vegan options??)
Sprouts: used to have TVP in their bulk bins, but not anymore.
Fresh Market: not the best place for vegan options in general
Kimchee Mart - nope
Amazon: yes, but last year I bought them for $16 now it’s $25 (3 - 8oz packages)

Recommendations - or do I just accept the 50% price increase on amazon?

UPDATE:
Thanks for the suggestions! Seems like buying in bulk from Butler Foods is the way to go!

UPDATE 2:
Placed my order at Butler Foods! Soy Curls, Taco Crumbles, and Jerky are on their way!
Thanks!!

Grand Turk excursion recommendations

Hi! We are sailing on the Brilliant Lady Thanksgiving weekend with a stop at Grand Turk. For those who've gone, any excursions you recommend (or not)?

Our group: my husband and I love to explore (light hikes, cities, historical sites, museums, etc), but we will be traveling with our moms who are in their 70's so need too be VERY mindful of that. One of them can handle long walks, but the other has much more limited mobility. There's a chance we split up, but I'd like to have some ideas to share with them hoping we can do things together. Thoughts?

If we do split up at all - I've read snorkeling is great there. Any recommendations?

For the Bimini Beach Club - this stop was skipped on our last cruise due to weather so not sure what to expect. I've read there isn't much to do nearby so focus on relaxing by the pool/beach. Not sure if I want to drop $650 on a cabana, but we do at least need chairs with umbrellas. Will those be a challenge to secure? Both our moms may do the painting excursion (one planned to do it last year, but it was canceled).

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Help with grinder setting

Hi!! I’m trying to dial in my Moka brewing technique.

I’d like to at least find a grind setting that’s ideal so I can focus on other adjustments. This is similar to what I have. Anyone else have this? What grind setting should I use?

I also attached a photo of my induction 3 cup Bialetti Moka pot.

New Bialetti Moka Pot

Picked up a a new toy while Sicily. I kept an eye out for a new Moka during our trip, but nothing stood out. While out on our last night in Catania we walked right past the Bialetti store as they were about to close and found this :) probably would have picked up an additional one or two, but didn’t have time to properly browse and overthink my selections haha.

I was hoping to find the Alpine moka pot, but didn’t realize it was a limited edition version and no longer available. I spotted this fun sparkly grey color so went with this one 🤩

I haven’t been able to use a moka pot since upgrading to an induction range about 9 years ago. I brewed a couple water cycles and coffee cycles last night and made my first cup this morning. Takes about four and half minutes to brew.

Any maintenance tips besides the usual “clean with water only”? I used preground Pilon coffee today, just like my family used growing up. Any coffee recommendations?

I’ll be in Sicily the second half of June and need some help with clothing options.

Last year I one-bagged my first trip - a two-week trip to Japan - and it was a total success! I did laundry along the way and plan to do the same on this trip. The weather was a bit cooler than what I’m expecting in Sicily (maybe 60s at night, 80s/90s during the day). I live in a hot/humid area so not worried about the heat itself, just want to be comfy with limited options.

For Japan, I picked up some Unbound Merino tees, but due to foreseen circumstances 🫣 they’re a bit snug now, so I’m basically starting from scratch this year... yay.

I am leaning toward sticking with merino wool shirts, but based on the one or two “warm” afternoons we had in Japan, I can see why some people say wool can get a bit annoying in heat.

Thoughts? Stick with Unbound Merino and just size up, or rethink it for a hot-weather trip?

This year I’m thinking (rough draft):

  • 3 wool tees (maybe cut down to 2)
  • 1 Proof polo
  • 1 pair of pants for evenings/nights (need help deciding: linen vs jeans vs other)
  • 2 Chubbies “everywhere” shorts
  • 1 swim short
  • 1 athletic short
  • socks + underwear

Also looking for:

  • a packable wide-brim hat for sun protection
  • a long sleeve option for sun (I do have an SPF Columbia shirt I could bring for swimming)
  • a long sleeve linen shirt for going out, but maybe that could double as daytime sun protection when I’m not swimming. Is there a better option?

For shoes, thinking two pairs and maybe sandals:

  • Xero Ridgeway Low (main walking shoe)
  • Canvas Dillons for evenings (very lightweight and packable, but may skip)
  • Sandals

Trip will be a mix of walking/exploring, some beach time, and going out to dinner. Nothing super formal.

Bag: Allpa 42L again (being careful not to over-pack)

Here's a link to my kit from Japan: https://www.reddit.com/r/onebag/comments/1jsle2q/15_days_with_my_allpa_42l/
Learned a lot and not bring some of the items in that post (jacket, iPad, Bose headphones...)

Any suggestions on fabrics (especially for heat), pants choice, or anything I’m overlooking?
