Just got my R5 as a first wheel - any tips for a complete beginner?
Feel free to give any tips or any information you want to a absolute beginner in a sim racing who just bought R5 as a first wheel.
I cant believe, after years of dreaming, scrolling and searching i just got my first FFB wheel! I decided to jump straight in with an R5 bundle and clutch pedal for a gearbox.
I started plating racing games with Gran Turismo on PS4, and spent quite a lot of time. Eventually thought, i started wanting a proper wheel setup to get a little closer to the real racing experience.
I'm really happy to finally have the wheel mounted on my desk, and the force feedback feels awesome! Its more than enough for a complete rookie such as me
By as i used it for a bit, i started to worry that its too serious of a thing for a beginner.
So, I have a few questions for those of you who own or have owned an R5.
- The first thing I noticed is how stiff the brake pedal feels. I've already set the maximum brake input to around 70%, but I still have to push pretty hard. Sometimes, when I try to hit 100% braking, the whole pedal stand tips backward and slides away. And, of course, my chair rolls backward too (you can see my genius solution in the picture). Is the brake pedal supposed to be that stiff? Is there any way to make it easier to press, or at least stop the pedal stand from tipping over? I'd rather not have to build an entire rig just to keep everything in place.
- Second, I'm not really strong hands, and sometimes feedback feels really heavy. I've tried games like BeamNG and Forza Horizon, and I have to put quite a bit of effort into making sharp turns, for example, but i dont actually want to lower strength, couse i should get used to it at the end. Can you tell me, how did you get used to the force feedback? Maybe i doesnt know something? Should I lower the settings and gradually work my way up? Are the default presets any good, or i should try to make my own presets?
- Also im interested in your sitting position. How do you place you pedals relatively to mt chait and the wheel? How far my chair should be?And how do you prevent chair from rolling and pedals from flipping or sliding away?
I'd would highly appriciate any advice or tips you think would be useful for someone who's just starting out and still has a lot to learn about sim racing.
