New Management: State of the Sub
Hello all!
I'm u/Calculagraph, one of the new mods in r/DIYGuitarAmps, along with u/Available-Ad-8045 and u/ArtSynth. And I wanted to take a moment to make an introduction and solicit opinions from the members of the sub on a thing or two.
First things first: if you're one of the 70+ people that were waiting for approval to post, I am sorry it took so long. Since we're now actively moderated, we've dropped the requirement that posters must be approved, so please utilize the report function if something does not fit the sub. We'll definitely reassess if we're inundated with low effort or off topic posts in the future, but at the moment, the thought is that we're better able to discuss things if we can post things.
On the topic of rules; We have rules now! They are as follows:
1 Keep it civil.
We're here to talk about amps. There's not much reason to get all that worked up on the topic, so we shouldn't need to get all worked up. Be friendly.
2 Don't give dangerous advice.
Big noise requires big power, and big power is not a healthy addition to one's diet. Do not give advice that will result in harm to the user or damage to the device.
Keep in mind that AI is prone to mistakes, and mistakes can be potentially fatal in the case of amplifiers. Please refrain from posting AI designed circuits for this reason.
3 DIY is DIY
How do you know if you're in the right place? Well, if you're doing something to a guitar amp, and you're doing it yourself, you're in the right place. Hand built rigs, self-repaired PCB's, rehoused units, all of it.
4 Respect Copyright
Let's keep it on the up-and-up. Feel free to link anything published online and to share your own designs, but please don't share anything with an active copyright.
5 We're not a marketplace
There are some impressive builds and builders here and we totally support seeing them making money with their skill, but we want this place to be primarily for discussion and sharing. If you want to advertise here, and think you can do so in a way that will benefit the community, please contact the mods to discuss your idea.
I don't think they're all that restrictive, but I am happy to discuss them with members. This is a community and the community should have say in how it's regulated. I, personally, think the mod team hit the right notes, but let us know if we're not in the right key.
So, now the big ask. I am not a visual artist; my medium of preference is vibrating air. Having said that: we are in need of a banner. Now, I could GPT some slop to throw up there, but that feels disingenuous. I'd rather solicit free work from the members of the sub, and have them lightly judge each other like a middle school clique. Is this something we'd be in to?
