An alternative approach for Deathwatch through the use of Ceramite Sentinels

I recently attended an RTT, and had the pleasure of playing against Skarri for my very first match. For those unaware, Skarri is arguably the highest ranked Drukhari player in the world, and one of the best players in Canada. He brought Black Templars (with a Hammerfall Bunker and Firestrike Turret) and played against my Votann, and won with a 15-point advantage. What I learned from that fight is that Ceramite Sentinels is under-appreciated, and that Deathwatch could potentially use it to our advantage, especially with 11th Edition’s greater emphasis on terrain and cover.

I know we’re supposed to be all in on Kill Teams and mobility from Black Spear, but I feel like Ceramite Sentinels might give us an opportunity to draw more from the regular marine range and use some of our uncommon units. The focus would be getting into terrain pieces and objectives in order to maximize our opportunity to benefit from the Entrenched rule, thus making Turn 2 or 3 our “go” turns for maximum damage output. Take and Hold being the detachments Disposition would allow us to take heavier defensive units in the form of Bladeguard Veterans and Hammer+Shield Terminators. I’ve developed a list below that could play into the strengths of this detachment, and would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on it.

My Ironbreaker-pattern Hekaton Land Fortress and long-expedition Steeljacks, representing my URSR Ironbreaker Kin, my largest and most complex kitbashes to date

Using a plethora of bits from a dozen different sources, such as Necromunda terrain, Tamiya stowage kits, and 3D printed bits, I’ve finally completed my third and final Hekaton. The Steeljacks you see here compliment it well, as I put a focus on them behaving as support platforms, as much as Warrior Kin themselves.

I took a picture of my army at a tournament I recently attended (went 3-0-3). The Hekaton is heavily converted. I’ll have a better picture of it once I finish painting it.
