Watchmasters redux- Necron scythe vigil spear aura farming

Been a minute r/deathwatch40k! Had to step back from hobbying for a minute but finally had some time to play around and kitbash! I've seen a few of you work the scythe into your watchmasters and I'm gladdened to see what y'all have done with repurposing xenos gear into your figures!

Just wanted to share WIPs, not a 3d modeler nor seller, the kitbashed spears are free on the purple site if you search anything along 'Xenos inspired' and 'Vigil Spears'. For amazing marine inspired models, have to give a shout out to Marta_PunkGirl, her work is impeccable!

Starting Deathwatch Army

Hello!

I am relatively new to warhammer and I've mained Necrons for the last year. Ive really enjoyed building/painting my models and wanted to work on some space marines to mix it up. Ive had a really hard time choosing a chapter so I figure deathwatch kind of does it all! Why not?

-I have the tombworld box set so I have those deathwatch kill teams.

-I also had the Armageddon Deathwatch Battalion box gifted to me(which is really just another tomb world deathwatch KT if i have my facts straight) with the transport vehicle

-And I have a spare aggressor squad box.

Im trying to figure out what I should be getting to make my army the best it can be. Like I said im new and my research into this has been...confusing to say the least XD

I wanted to ask some experts for advice and some direction on what I should be buying and building toward.

Any help is greatly appreciated and with any luck you'll add one more to your deathwatch ranks! Thank you!

Tournament lists

Hello all, went to a local tournament recently with deathwatch using black spear and managed a 4th place finished. Got the crap kicked out of me by khorn demons. Did not have the ability to hold the central objective against his charging mortal wounds and such.

Learned that a well tuned purge list can disrupt amd score very well. Thinking ill bring 10 terminators and a Chaplain for mortal wounds protection next time. Anyone have lists that they had success in a tournament with ?

An alternative approach for Deathwatch through the use of Ceramite Sentinels

I recently attended an RTT, and had the pleasure of playing against Skarri for my very first match. For those unaware, Skarri is arguably the highest ranked Drukhari player in the world, and one of the best players in Canada. He brought Black Templars (with a Hammerfall Bunker and Firestrike Turret) and played against my Votann, and won with a 15-point advantage. What I learned from that fight is that Ceramite Sentinels is under-appreciated, and that Deathwatch could potentially use it to our advantage, especially with 11th Edition’s greater emphasis on terrain and cover.

I know we’re supposed to be all in on Kill Teams and mobility from Black Spear, but I feel like Ceramite Sentinels might give us an opportunity to draw more from the regular marine range and use some of our uncommon units. The focus would be getting into terrain pieces and objectives in order to maximize our opportunity to benefit from the Entrenched rule, thus making Turn 2 or 3 our “go” turns for maximum damage output. Take and Hold being the detachments Disposition would allow us to take heavier defensive units in the form of Bladeguard Veterans and Hammer+Shield Terminators. I’ve developed a list below that could play into the strengths of this detachment, and would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on it.

Who are you giving the Tome of Ectoclades to in 11th?

If you guys are still taking the Tome enhancement, who are you putting it on?

With the Watchmaster change, I'm far less inclined to take him, and my Grav Cap already has Thief, so i can't find a good place to slot in Tome.

Is it worth it to take a second captain, or something off meta like the Phobos or Jump Captain?

Truescale OG Deathwatch

I've had these marines and stormcast chilling in my backlog for too long! I gave it a try converting them for truescale. I love how they look next to my guardsmen.

Looking for any tips and tricks you all might have learned trying to do similar!

Need help choosing

So I’m relatively new to deathwatch, I started as world eaters and have just started collecting a second army because I was gifted the Armageddon deathwatch box for my birthday and was wondering what would be the best route to 1000pts in people’s opinions.

I have the Armageddon box and the watch master currently and was going to play the veterans as 2 5 man squads separately with the blackstar carrying one of the squads with the watch master and was going to proxy in some terminators as I only play with friends and we are a pretty chill on the proxying as long as it’s still in theme and base sizes are correct.

Then I was thinking of picking up ferren aerios to lead the other veterans, a chaplain in terminator armour for the termies and a redemeptor dreadnought the round out to 1000ish points, I know I’m slightly over but as I said I mainly play with friends and we just kinda match each others points pretty closely depending on what we’re playing

So I was wondering in peoples opinions am I going down the right route with deathwatch and what are some recommended units you guys play with and think would be useful

I was jealous of the Armageddon kitbashes

So I made my own vanguard vets and jump chaplain. Jump wolf priest? Interrogator wolf priest with jump pack? I follow my heart when I build, especially when it’s wrong.

This weekend's projects

Still putting details in on Lemartes and the Wolfguard termies are gonna stay headless until I can throw some chaos terminator helms on them. On the apothecary, I was aiming for more aged/dirty look as opposed to the bright clean white.

Advice on Building 1k Army + Expanding to 2k

I'm relatively new, with 2 games under my belt with World Eaters. I've always wanted to play Deathwatch, but I was too intimidated by the variability of the army. Since I understand the core rules a bit more, I'd love to give it a try.

I've been holding on to the Deathwatch Battalion box since it came out, and now with the Space Marine half from the Armageddon box, I was hoping I could get a good start on a Deathwatch Army.

Here's the models those 2 boxes include:

  • Captain with Relic Shield
  • Librarian
  • Chaplain with Jump Pack
  • Ancient
  • Intercessor Squad
  • Vanguard Veteran Squad
  • Eradicator Squad
  • 2 x 5 Deathwatch Veterans
  • Corvus Blackstar

Could you advise on what my army composition should look like? I do want to focus on ranged shooting a bit, but I'm not sure what I can or cannot include into the army.

What are the essentials or "must includes" for a Deathwatch army?

I'd like to start with 1k so I can play with my buddy, then move on to a 2k army.

Thanks!
