I wish more islands had docks.

I wish more islands had docks.

Like even a single little wooden dock like the ones at St. Sebastian hospital island would be so much nicer.

Reaching any diesel seller isn’t a problem, distance-wise, because I can just infinitely winch out from my pulley with a buoy and hoses, but not having a dock to anchor next to and jump onto when I’m trying to load fuel in red weather just makes for such irritating gameplay.

It’s not just this island either, there seem to be a handful of islands with significant infrastructure that are just really annoying to access by sea.

I tried looking for addons on the workshop that add docks to these places too and only found additions to docks that already exist at major ports.

I might try to look into whether or not I can add some myself with the addon editor, but I’d really hate to have to start another new save lol. I’m more just sharing a little annoyance tho lol.

Retrofitted my FSIV with a little tandem helicopter for moving shipping containers

Now that I'm starting to finally build helicopters, I figured I'd try a rig for lifting containers. didn't feel like designing a whole new ship, and so I just retrofitted my FSIV "Neotibicen" to accept up to three shipping containers and made this funky little tandem helicopter using the saddle seat. It kind of reminds me of Colin Furze's hover-bike lol.

Update on my Lego jet boat retrofit, first pool test

Put this together recently, brought it to my dad’s house over the weekend to test it. It handles pretty well, for a fairly rudimentary retrofit, though I worry it’s too heavy for the motor (gets a little warm after just a short test run), so I may try a more involved design than just slapping a modified lower hull section from an existing boat onto the bottom of the Lego hull. Ideally, I think I should aim for a shallower hull and maybe a larger motor, which would be my first time building a custom set up. I’m a novice, so I’m open to suggestions for jet drives, motors, and receivers, if anyone could give me any pointers!

Broken Diesel Gantries in Classic after Infinite-fuel-selling Scheme at Spycakes

So, a while back, I had the brilliant idea of winching out a hose from the diesel selling gantry at Terminal Spycakes all the way across the island to the diesel buying gantry at the north shore of the island. It worked great for a while and netted me a ton of passive income, to the tune of over a million dollars over time.

Well, yesterday I was playing my classic save and suddenly started to have a ton of lag. I didn't think much of it at the time, since Stormworks tends to suddenly slow down after being open for several hours, and I simply restarted the game and carried on my way.

I noticed this morning however that my money was no longer increasing and the icons for my hose strething device had vanished from the map.

I flew my helicopter out to have a look, and the entire top portion of the diesel buying gantry has been removed from existence, along with my device and it's hoses, however, the selling gantry tells me "hose too long to detatch", rendering this selling location completely unusable, as the hose doesn't even exist anymore and cannot be winched back in. Seems the hose physics finally decided to freak the hell out and this is the result.

If I'd like to be able to purchase and sell fuel at these locations, I will now need to start a fresh save.

So take this as a PSA, if you have the brilliant idea to funnel fuel through a 2 kilometer long hose across island Spycakes, be warned- it could completely break your save at any time due to pushing the hose physics beyond what it's supposed to be able to do lol. I'd advise against it.

Expanding my Helicopter Fleet

Spent most of my day continuing to refine my Yeep-yeep YY01D rescue helicopter, only to realize upon spawning it in my classic save that I’ll need a good way to keep my inland hangars stocked with fuel.

I dreaded the idea of building a tanker truck, because I don’t have much interest in driving a tanker truck around, so I was like hey, I’ve got a big helicopter, how about I just retrofit a big tank into the back of it?

And so the next sibling in the Yeep-yeep helicopter series was born, the YY02T tanker.

The improved YY01D and YY02T both feature an enlarged fuel tank increasing capacity from 2500 to 3300 liters of fuel for even larger ranges, as well as forward cockpit doors and a revised dashboard now including an artificial horizon and better ergonomics. They both also feature larger cargo bay doors, redesigned for increased head clearance under the YY01D’s rescue harness booms, which also now more neatly fold seamlessly into the ceiling. Passenger seating in the YY01D has been increased from 8 to 10. Top speed of both helicopters now reaches up to 90 knots.

The engine cowling areas have also been blended better to the fuselage for a better flowing design language across the whole helicopter.

The YY02T features a 7,000 liter cargo tank, which can be filled and emptied in less than a minute, and due to the extra weight the cargo adds, the engine RPS has been raised from 17 to 20, and the roll gyro throttle lowered from 100% to about 75% to avoid oscillations during descent.

I’ve spent a good portion of the day with both helicopters in my classic career save, stocking reserve fuel at multiple hangers between rescues, fire fighting, and personnel transport missions.

They could both still use a little more refinement in their controls tuning, but I think I’ll load them both onto the workshop soon! These things are proving incredibly successful as career workhorses, and I’m thinking I may try a cargo-bob variant of the Yeep-yeep airframe next and move some shipping containers!

Yeep-yeep continues development

I didn’t have a lot of time to play today, but I did slow down the boom pivots for a less chaotic swing, ditched the lever boom controls for the same toggle button setup used for the doors, moved the door buttons for easier access, made the boom designs slightly less visually obstructive, and added some minor detailing to the passenger benches.

I think I’d consider Yeep-yeep a fully complete helicopter now, and might upload it and move on to a more refined design before even using it in my classic save at all due to a couple of minor yet fundamental ergonomic issues I personally have beef with.

I’m ultimately very happy with it as my very first helicopter build.

This is Yeep-yeep, my first attempt at a rescue helicopter.

I've been building boats for almost 2,000 hours, figured it was finally time to try a helicopter. Made this tandem guy based on 454ss Gaming's tutorials, named the initial file "yeep yeep" as a placeholder, but the name stuck even as I kept adding details and equipment, so now that's just what its called, I guess, lol.

Anyway, here's how Yeep-yeep's first trial rescue mission went.

Position hold sends helicopter into death spiral | Need help

I've been following the helicopter tutorials from 454ss Gaming, and I followed his position hold exactly, yet it sends my helicopter into a death spiral every time I activate the position hold and I can't seem to adjust the PIDs in a way that changes anything at all. I try to make it adjust faster, slower, etc., yet its always just death spiral.

At this point, I'm at a loss and I'm about ready to throw my computer out the window, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Oilmaxxing Tanky McTankerface Mogs the Waves

Been putting my largest tanker Tanky McTankerface through Sea Trials: Ultimate, after a little hiatus from Stormworks. I have returned to abuse the shit out of this thing and see what it can take. So far, it’s quite a trooper.

“I’ve got a slightly modified geo metro”

Modified my D42 to accept an also modified aftermarket aluminum D12 frame, trying out some aftermarket metal suspension and steering parts (since WPL doesn’t make a metal steering rack and I’m tired of the plastic one wearing out and binding) and now just waiting on some new wheel bearings from WPL.

I didn’t want to use the old style LCAs, but the ball joints on the WPL metal LCAs use a larger thread than these aftermarket hubs use, so I can’t easily mix and match. Oh well. At least these arms are metal and the frame is now also metal, so unlikely to break again lol.

We’ll see how it does once those new bearings finally show up!

D14 does great on mixed terrain & broke my D42… again.

I like to bring these things along when I go camping with some family, mostly drive them around paved and gravel campground roads and a little bit of dirt and grass driving. The D14 does surprisingly well even in grass and can do some mild crawling even, which I know it’s not really meant for, but the 4WD makes it a blast to run on almost any surface.

The D42 on the other hand, I’ve already strengthened the frame posts for the control arm mounts by filling their hollow insides with toothpicks and super glue, however, this just means that I’ve now found the next weak spot, which is the holes for the pins. Always something with this frame, smh. Also blew a wheel bearing.

I do have an aftermarket machined aluminum D12 frame, which I will need to shorten in order to make work for the D42, but I think it’s time to make that modification, after going through two of the OE D42 frames. Tired of them breaking. The wheel bearing is my fault though, I damaged it when installed and it’s been on its way out since. Got some more on the way tho.
