unpopular opinion: the 200 level might be the best seat in MSG to watch this knicks team

i know everyone is dropping insane money right now trying to secure lower bowl tickets for the title defense.

I get the appeal of being as close as possible.

i used to think lower was automatically better until i watched a game from a buddy's seat in the 200s during one of the playoff runs.

if you actually want to watch how this team operates, you should be aiming for those higher sections.

Don't get me wrong, sitting down low in sections like 107 is an experience.

You feel every Brunson shoulder bump in the paint, hear the communication in switches, and get a real sense of physicality.

But down there, you're mostly just watching the ball.

You miss the actual chess match.

when you sit higher up, right around center court (like section 212), watching Thibs' defensive rotation and off-ball spacing is completely different.

You actually see the nail help creeping in, the weak-side rotations, and the entire defensive shell shifting together before the broadcast angle really shows you what's happening.

you can literally watch the low man make the decision before the drive gets into the paint.

It completely changes how you see the offense, too. Brunson is one of those guards where the footwork looks simple until you watch from above and see how he manipulates the entire defense.

you can actually see the pocket passes developing and watch him make a read two passes before the shot happens. if your priority is being as close to the players as possible, lower bowl absolutely has its moments.

but if you're there because you want to understand how Thibs actually has these guys humming, those higher sections are pretty hard to beat.

after learning the hard way that a "good section" doesn't always mean a good view, i usually check pictures on places like aviewfrommyseat, or use the 3d views on veritickets before buying.

you really don't want to find out after the fact that you're stuck behind the chase bridge overhang. my bank account is already crying just looking at the home opener prices anyway.
