Finally got my first job — looking to upgrade my 16-year-old self's budget PC without breaking the bank

Hey guys! I built this PC when I was 16 with basically no budget, a mix of my cousin's old parts, Marketplace finds, and whatever scraps I could get. Now that I have my first job, I wanna give the old thing some love since it’s honestly served me really well.

Current specs:

  • i5-6400 (watercooled)
  • MSI B150M Bazooka
  • 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 3200 (2x8)
  • RX 580 2048SP
  • Inplay GS550 Pro
  • 480GB Gigabyte SSD
  • Cheap no-name case

I don't really play demanding games — mostly Siege/Fortnite/Valorant — so I'm happy keeping the GPU and RAM for now.

I'm mainly looking to upgrade the CPU + motherboard, PSU, case, and maybe storage if there's a good deal. I use dual monitors and multitask/record gameplay, so I'd like something stable and reliable rather than just chasing FPS.

I would also really like a brown/black case aesthetic from this build.

What CPU/mobo/PSU/case would you guys recommend without breaking the bank? Thanks!!

Looking for an affordable 140cm x 60cm desk/table in Manila

Hi! I’m looking for a table or wooden slab around 140cm x 60cm for my desk. My budget is around ₱4,000–₱5,000.

Most tables I’ve found on Shopee/IKEA don’t seem sturdy enough for my heavy PC and multiple monitors. I’m open to getting a wooden slab and making the desk myself, but if you know any actual tables from shops that fit the size and budget, I’d appreciate recommendations too!

I recently moved to Manila from Batangas, so I don’t really know where to look yet.
Thank you!

Where can I buy affordable wood slabs around 140cm x 60cm in Manila?

Hi! I’m looking for an affordable wooden slab/tabletop around 140cm x 60cm for a desk. Most tables I’ve found on Shopee/IKEA don’t seem sturdy enough for my heavy PC and multiple monitors.

I recently moved to Manila from Batangas, so I don’t really know where to look for lumber or woodworking shops. Any recommendations for affordable places that can cut wood to size?
Thank you!

Best way to Fill Gap in wall of Window Type AC?

Can anyone recommend the most budget-friendly but still aesthetically pleasing way to fill the gaps between the wall and my window-type AC?

The wall opening is around 22” × 16”, while my AC is only 17.7” × 13.8”. Looking for suggestions on what material or method would work best. Thank you! 🙏

BPI vs BDO vs Metrobank — Which is most likely to offer a pre-approved credit card?

I’m planning to save a large portion of my salary for college and deposit it twice a month into one of these banks: BPI, BDO, or Metrobank.

I’ve heard that frequent deposits and maintaining a good balance can help with getting pre-approved credit card offers. I also want to get my first credit card this year mainly to build my credit history early, not for unnecessary spending.

Which bank should I prioritize if this is one of my goals? And does frequent depositing actually help?
Thanks!

Looking for opinions on my current financial setup and where I can optimize

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some opinions on my current financial setup and whether there are any areas where I could optimize it.

I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit since my setup is a mix of digital banks and traditional banks, so I’m posting this on both relevant subreddits to get different perspectives.

Here’s what I currently have:

- Cash on hand – for small daily expenses
- GoTyme – Needs – ₱2,000 top-up every month
- GoTyme – Wants – ₱2,000 top-up every month
- Maya – Personal Goal #1
- Maya – Personal Goal #2
- BPI Savings – Emergency Fund
- UnionBank – currently has only ₱500 and is basically stagnant. I keep it open just in case I need it in the future.
- MariBank – currently unused and has ₱0
- GCash – currently unused and has ₱0
- Metrobank – recently opened this account specifically to start putting my college savings into, also using MB to hopefully get a pre-approved credit card offer

One thing I’m currently unsure about is my GoTyme Needs/Wants setup.

Right now, I have them separated and put ₱2,000 into each every month. I'm wondering whether this separation is actually useful, or whether it would be better to combine the two into one easily accessible account.

For example, would it make more sense to put the combined ₱4,000/month into MariBank and just use that as my accessible spending account? That way, I wouldn't have to keep transferring money from savings to my balance whenever I want to spend something.

Or is keeping Needs and Wants separate actually a good system for budgeting and controlling spending?

Aside from that, what do you think of my overall setup? Are there any accounts I should consolidate, change, or use differently? Is there anything obvious that I'm overlooking or could optimize?

I’d really appreciate any opinions or suggestions. Thank you!

Which traditional bank should I keep my college savings in?

I’m 18 years old, currently taking a gap year before university to save up for my first year of college. I’m working full-time and just started last week, but I’ve already received my first salary.

My plan is to save around ₱200,000 for my first year of college. That money won’t be touched at all until around August 2027, I’ll only be making deposits, with little to no withdrawals.

Right now, I have accounts with:
Maya
MariBank
GoTyme
GCash
BPI Savings
UnionBank Savings

Lately, though, I’ve been considering opening an account with BDO or Metrobank because I’ve heard that consistent depositors or long-time savings account holders sometimes get pre-approved credit card offers.

One of my goals this year is also to get my first credit card. If keeping my savings with a particular traditional bank increases my chances of getting pre-approved later on, I’d rather do that than open a secured credit card and lock in a ₱10,000 deposit.

I know Maya has better interest rates, but with my planned balance, I feel like the interest isn’t significant enough to outweigh the potential benefit of building a relationship with a traditional bank if it improves my chances of getting a credit card.

Given my situation, which bank would you choose and why? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
