Clearance Upgrade
For future jobs that require an active security clearance when starting, could I switch to another department to get ‘Secret’? My position uses ‘confidential’ which does not give you many options to move to other defense jobs.

Who can I call or email about changing my physical/drug test? I called the number who called me to get a new date for the tests. They have not picked up after calling several days in a row now. I’ve emailed the ‘additional questions’ email on the offer letter with no response. Planning to just call the nns clinic and/or emailing the travel email. The onboarding person also has not responded and the website says they are still planning to hire me.
Any better options than those?
Anyone worked here recently? I want this job to work. If I make the jump and move to Oahu, it will be after learning more about the yard. Is management decent? Can you advance much? Are the projects like the cutters, MDA rig, or arleigh burkes fun to tool around on? Seems like an incredible opportunity that I would regret not doing without a really good reason, to pursue for at least for a year or two.
It will be 134 days after quitting heavy smoking, is there any chance I fail a drug test for weed? I tested positive by urinalysis about a month and a half after quitting so I am not 100% sure I pass.
I will ask my lawyer, he said companies do not really care about misdemeanors. However, I have a fantastic offer for my first full time engineering job doing really meaningful work in a warm climate and pay I never expected for a starting salary. Also it’s in defense which throws a wrench in the situation but starting is not contingent on securing a clearance, that will come later. My sentencing is Monday, not sure if it matters at this point, but should I accept the offer today or wait until Monday when sentence is passed down and the case is finalized? Or if I should bring it up to the interviewing engineer or to hr before accepting?
Also this is really poorly worded, I’ve been getting very minimal sleep since I got the offer two days ago, freaking out about losing such an opportunity. Hoping someone has insight for this. (Low bac <0.10, lowest risk on assessment, vip complete, being plead down to impaired which is the lowest you can go for my state)
Thanks in advance
Can anyone provide insight into how a owi in early February, plead to owvi, would effect getting a confidential clearance? I would apply for the clearance in July. It’s a shipbuilding company and would be a test engineer as my first full time engineering position. Thanks
