The Odyssey is perfect and it's a problem.
I knew The Odyssey would be good but not that good. It is, quite simply, peerless... and it's a problem.
For the time in my life, and I'm old enough to have seen E.T. in theater, I am feeling wistful after seeing a movie. As if I was witnessing some kind of conclusion.
I've seen my fair share of great movies, and there are many, but this is on an entirely different level. The combination of a perfect movie and the grandeur of the story makes me feel like this is the pinnacle of cinema. Nolan cannot surpass this. Let alone anyone else. This is it. This is the top of cinema's mountain.
From here on out, how can I possibly enjoy less than a monumental and meaningful flawless spectacle? From here on out, what movie could possibly surpass a perfect cinematographic rendition of the greatest story humanity has ever conceived? From here on out, there is nowhere else to go but down.
