I'm still a week behind, but I'll get caught up. This was from 9/23 and we started from the other side of the canal near the fairgrounds parking lot to the west of the GREAT Kern County Fair. We got to go through some old neighborhoods that go overlooked. They weren't amazing, but still nice once you get away from the main roads.

Across South H by Rose Marie, then up H to Belle Terrace, back near the main Fair entrance, across Ming and through there, then to Union and back down Ming. Nobody was hassled, shot, stabbed, or killed. Come check us out and see more parts of town that you're probably wrong about.

Our fearless leader Butthook was filling in as a last-minute hare and started the trail from the Cancer Survivors Memorial (I miss the statues) at Beach Park. Because it was another warm day, trail was kept short, but we still got to see plenty of nice homes as we meandered through the area. Enjoy!

If you ever want a reason to get out of the house and make some friends, come on out! We meet every Monday at 6:30 to run, walk, and jog 3-5 miles with a couple beers. We have walkers and runners, drinkers and non-drinkers, so we have a place for just about everyone.

Also, big thanks to Fornigoater, our hare for the week, for not only laying trail, but also for cooking up some great Indian food and feeding us all! Normally we will go for some food and beverages after a trail, but who are we to argue with a home cooked meal?

Every week, we meet up somewhere around town to run, walk, and jog 3-5 miles, cool off with a couple beers, and get a little exercise with some friends. This week we went through Oleander and headed east. As always, I took some pics of interesting places and we went through the neighborhood. In all fairness, we ended up coming back down California, so I'm sure you'll see some pics that you're definitely familiar with.

Looks like this is going to be a two-part post because I'm limited to 20 pics.

This week, we left from Jastro Park and meandered through Westchester and even over into Beach Park. There's no storage of great homes and fun there, so here are some pics of our travels. If you want to come out and join us next week, we'll meet up every Monday at 6:30 to run, walk, and jog through different parts of town and have a couple beers asking the way, and it's a great way to make some great friends.

OK, this week we were out in BFE: Nord and Stockdale. It's interesting to see the town grow out to the west and the things that come with it. We ran through rich neighborhoods that aren't developed, almond and pistachio orchards, and horse property. Still, this is where the town is moving. Sure, Bako is a city, but we still feel like a small town, and that's a good thing.

Anyway, enjoy the sights that you PROBABLY don't see when you're stuck to your regular driving patterns. If you do see these sights, you're among the chosen people.

I run (walk, actually) with the Bakersfield Hash House Harriers every Monday. On our trails, I try to take some pics as we go of areas that might go unnoticed as you drive past. This week saw a lot of surface streets, but we still had fun. Maybe next week will bring more interesting pics.

This week we started on Park Stockdale at the community center and ran through the neighborhood, out through Lennox, and across California. Hidden just back away from busy Stockdale lies a nice, peaceful neighborhood with friendly people; one guy watering his lawn even obliged us with a quick shower as we ran past on a warm day!

On-On!

First off, thank you to those of you who have helped report astroturfing campaign posts. While robotic mowers may be interesting, promotional posts about them are NOT welcomed here. Because of this, I have added two new rules.

1. NO ASTROTURFING. This will result in an immediate post removal and permanent ban for the user.

2. NO SELF-PROMOTION: This is more geared towards posts that try to steer web traffic to their YouTube channels and websites, but also include those who want to "build questionnaire applications" that basically glean data from users. There's already enough data available, and we don't want to give up more information unwillingly. That said, if someone is asking a question in good faith and you have a known and trusted source to help out OP, please share. Sometimes the best help is an instructional video, and sometimes the perfect one doesn't exist until you make and share it.

Considering we are only two mods, remember that you just might piss off half of us, and that's enough; even more, it's just as easy to piss off all two of us, so don't try to figure out where the line is. It's like Judge Dredd said: I am the law. But, you know not so preachy and single-sided. I promise, we try to be fair as much as possible.

This week we started behind Sam Lynn Ballpark and ran across the river, through South Oildale, and along the river back to the A. Along the way we ran through a couple people's encampments, and they actually kept it fairly nice, all things considered. I didn't take any pics of these spaces because these people already have enough to deal with, and I don't want to bring any extra attention to their already troubled situations.

We did get some really nice shots as the sun was seeing and as I was laying trail, but since I laid trail, my hands were covered in flour, so I didn't take as many pics as usual. After the run was over, we caught the last 6 innings of the Train Robbers game where they beat the Martinez Sturgeons 15-5. $2 at the gate, $1 hot dogs, and $2 Coors Light with a fun game in good weather (it was honestly very nice). How could you go wrong?

Come join us! We always have room for more runners and walkers. Just come with a fun attitude.

OK, this week we didn't go anywhere too far off the beaten path, but we still had fun doing it! Our hare decided to dub this trail the Pride Run, so we donned bright colors, tutus, and big smiles as we ran around the Buck Owens/24th St area. Even though you probably do see this area, we went a couple places that most people don't walk or run through.

Since the face swap weirded some of you out last time, I just marked over the faces of the offending parties that wish to remain unidentified in public. Enjoy!

Bonus points if you can name the place we went for food and drinks in the last pic!

This week we were running walking, and jogging through Oleander on a warm June day. Thank God we had beer! But, as usual, these are just some of the pics of the neighborhood interior that many people miss because they mainly travel on surface streets. Say what you want about Mormons, but they keep their properties looking nice. As for pic 11, that one was just odd; it seemed like it was once a commercial building, but it's located in an alley inside an otherwise purely residential zone. I'd you know anything about it, I'd love to know the history.

At the end of trail, we ended up going for shawarma at Syriana, a truck next to Stockdale Liquor. The food was great, and the ambiance was equally good.

Maybe next year I'll actually start early enough to deal with all the problems instead of rushing through some steps on the day of the event, but this looks better than last year's effort! I was going for the white version of the dress on the envelope, and I'm not upset, but my first draft was my final draft <insert Lazy College Senior meme here>. I didn't have time to make alterations for a longer front, better fit, and pockets, but I think it turned out mostly OK.

If anybody knows this pattern, I got kind of lost at the steps to make and attach the collar and works love some help. I got it on, but it's definitely not right.

This was for our annual Red Dress Run, and I'm a prissy bitch who will only wear a dress once to a single location, so perfection isn't my top priority. I skipped the interfacing because it added time. As for my priorities in a dress for a run, breathability and sway/flow are key. I used basketball jersey material which kept me cool on a warm day in the sun, and a breezy day was blowing and flowing the skirt amazingly.

As a bonus, look at all the happy people in store-bought dresses. Well, except one guy; I let him use my dress from 2 years ago because he didn't have one.

As for the club, we're part of the Hash House Harriers, and there are kennels (local clubs) all over the world. We run, walk, and jog and drink beer, but we have spots for every level and even non-drinkers. It's a great way to get a little exercise, make some friends, see parts of your town that are hidden, and just have some fun. OK, this trail we saw some shit. I generally like to highlight the good Bako, especially as we get away from main roads, but we saw underage girls working the street, lots of homeless and addicts, and some stuff that makes you realize just how bad some people's daily lives really are. I didn't take pics of that because it's honestly too heartbreaking when you stop and consider it, and I didn't want to exploit people's misery for clicks. If you think you have it bad, just know it could still be much worse.

On that note, here are some pics of some things we saw on trail in what's arguably the worst area in town. Still, once you get away from the main roads, you find that it's just people living their lives and trying to make it. Some of the areas are kind of nice.

Our annual Red Dress Run is a week and a day away, so that means I had to get my ass in gear and sew a new dress. Shooting from the hip, and I feel like the Lazy College Senior meme: "First draft. Final draft." Over if these years I'll actually start with plenty of time to make adjustments and end up with a nice finished product, but this year is not that year.

I'm going to be the only boy in Hash that made his own dress! OK, I'll be the only PERSON that made their own dress. Since I only wear a dress once ever, I'm not worried about small things like perfect stitching and interfacing.

I'm using basketball jersey material so it can breathe because it's usually really hot here. Also it's only $2 a yard. Thank God I have these "helpers".
