Artistic (?) Philosophy Recommendations

Hi!

I took philosophy over the summer, and I’d say my favorites were Hume, Nietzsche, and Sartre. I felt all three were more focused on what it means to be human and how to manage the experiences that come with it. I’d like to look more into these themes in philosophy on my own time, see what other philosophers have said and come to an opinion about it.

If you happen to know some, could you please recommend me some readings? Also, and I know this is somewhat of a silly question, but how can I come up with questions on my own to better understand and remember the material? I know that for the readings I had, I’d pay extra attention to see what kind of commentary I can make about it or any connections I see so that in the discussion posts and exams, I could talk about it. The information stuck more that way, and I’d be reminded of it more often than if I hadn’t.

Please let me know if I’m in the right community too!

Disqualification Consequences

Hi.

I was lucky enough to be nominated, and I'm desperate to go to *any* college whatsoever; as long as I'm getting a degree that's great. However, I'm also considering QuestBridge, and of the three universities that Posse can fund full-tuition for in my area (Atlanta), QuestBridge has the possibility to fund full-ride. As such, I'm leaning heavily towards not continuing with Posse, but I've already RSVP'd for the first interview. I know that I'd be disqualified if I fail to attend, but is there anything more to that? By that I mean, a blacklist or something that will follow me as I apply for scholarships and colleges.

I'd hate to sound ungrateful here because I'm not, really! It's amazing to have been nominated in the first place, and I'm glad I've gotten this far!! I'm just not sure if it's the best course of action for me. For context, I'm interested in a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and the universities available to me through Posse are Vanderbilt, Boston, and George Washington; Vanderbilt and Boston are both fully funded by QuestBridge.

Advice on QuestBridge, Posse, and Georgia Tech's Stamps Scholarships

Hi there!

I'm a senior who started the scholarship search game late (advice to underclassmen: it's never too early! yes, you're gonna find a lot of scholarships for upperclassmen but do not be discouraged, and if you're eligible and have the skills to do a scholarship, do it) and I was fortunate enough to be nominated to Posse. I'm also considering QuestBridge, and while I'm grateful both programs exist and pay the majority of tuition if not all, I'm hesitant about both.

I really want to go to Georgia Tech. It's my dream school. The universities offered to me by Posse and QuestBrdige are great schools, yes, but I'm not particularly interested in attending them (even MIT). I know Georgia Tech has a full-ride, Stamps President's Scholars, but the decisions all take place long after QuestBridge and Posse have made theirs.

I'm afraid that if I pass up on the opportunity for Posse and QuestBridge, focusing solely on Stamps, there's a chance that I'll end up with no full-ride whatsoever simply because I failed to have met the rigor that Stamps looks for. But, if I get accepted into Posse or QuestBridge, I'll at least have something to go to that's mostly paid off, and for a first-gen student from a low-income family, that's what we've really hoped for.

I've heard that Hope and Zell Miller (I'm a GA resident and eligible for both) cover a large part, if not all, of Georgia Tech's tuition, leaving only attendance up to the student to cover, which is very similar to Posse anyway.

TLDR: Considering Posse and QuestBridge, but really want to go to GA Tech on full-ride through Stamps. Problem is that Stamps doesn't announce winners until well after QuestBridge and Posse decide, and I may not have rigor. So, how valuable would it be for me to go after QuestBridge and Posse?

Please let me know if I've posted this in the wrong place! I think this is the right one, but I'm not all that familiar with Reddit.

Application Timeline

Hi there!

I'm interested in QuestBridge, and while my academics are mostly great, my SAT score could be better (1320), and I'm aiming for more activity in my clubs (currently VP of NHS, Head Researcher of TSA, and part of Reading Bowl). I see that QuestBridge is due October 1, and I also know that it's early decision, so I'm a bit worried about how quickly I should do it.

Should I try pushing off submitting my application until I can better my SAT and do more in my clubs, or is it kinda of like a first-come-first-serve situation where I gotta turn it in ASAP?

Philosophy Studying Advice

Hello!

My first philosophy exam is coming up and I’m not quite sure how to study for it 😓. There’ll be some MCQs, an SAQs, and an LEQ according to our teacher, and although I have a vague idea of what the material’s gonna be about, I’m not sure how to prepare for those constructed responses.

The readings we’ve done so far is the discussion between Socrates and Euthyphro about the definition of piety, Plato’s allegory of the cave, Descartes’ first and second meditations that led to cogito ergo sum, and Hume’s enquiry (not sure how to call it, but talks about impressions, golden mountain, cause and effect).

I’ve read them and taken notes, and although they’re suckers to get my head around, I understand them and remember. Is one example of studying practicing the Socrates method? Thinking of where else The Evil Deceiver could be influencing me?

4 Dual Enrollment Classes in the Summer?

I’m a rising high school senior taking 4 classes over the summer, specifically Intro to Phil, Soci, Psyc, and Info Systems. I’m in the top 3 at my school, have a free summer, and alright time management.

Should I still reduce the number of classes? 60% of me says that I should go on ahead, I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine, but the other 40% says I should heed the warnings
