What do y’all do when you’re injured?

Sought out this sub just for this question.

I twisted both my knees roller skating and now just turning over in my sleep is a delicate task. Standing feels very daunting. Last night I had to look for where I’d left my ibuprofen and it took ages and had me in tears. I’ve been to urgent care and I’m making arrangements to see a primary care provider.

I’ve dealt with illness on my own so I have systems in place to make it easier to take care of myself if I have body aches, a fever, nausea, etc.

I’ve never really dealt with a leg injury while living alone. What are y’all’s experiences or tips?

First Injury

I fell with my knees turned in and now they both feel unstable and it hurts to walk. Urgent care told me it was ok though, probably just strained.

I forgot to ask when I can skate again but I’m guessing just whenever it stops hurting? For now I’m just icing and resting them.

I do feel like I saw progress during this skate session! I’ll just have to wait before I can build on it.

Update: tried sleeping and when I got up to get ibuprofen walking was an ordeal. After enough crying I was able to find a rhythm that didn’t cause more pain. Definitely taking off work tomorrow.

If anyone here has dealt with a similar injury I’d love to hear about it (particularly when and how you got back on skates).

Had my first fall today. And second. And third. They weren’t that bad, actually! The third one was on my tailbone though so I called it a day after finishing that lap at the rink.

Didn’t have gear on, but I will definitely be using wrist guards and knee pads when they come in the mail.

Any tips on controlling falls so I don’t land so squarely on my tailbone again?

Also my uncle, who’s a cyclist, warned me not to take a hot shower because it’ll make the bruised parts of my body swell up and hurt worse. The more you know!
