Repair shop stole my ₹10k RAM, bricked my laptop

My laptop suddenly shut down. I cleaned it, reseated the RAM, but it still didn't start. I took it to a local repair shop around 9 PM. The repair technician wasn't there, so after waiting an hour I left my laptop with them and took their number. I specifically requested that any diagnosis be done in front of me they agreed but never called.

Next day around 1-2 PM the repair guy called and said the RAM was faulty and two motherboard components needed fixing. He quoted ₹2,500 for RAM replacement. I didn't have the money so I declined and went to collect my laptop the same evening.

At home I opened the laptop and noticed the RAM looked different scratches on the contact pins, color changed from gold to silver. I suspected a swap. I searched online and Reddit confirmed this wasn't normal. I went to Nehru Place where a technician confirmed the RAM was only 2GB not my original 16GB DDR4.

I have video proof of this. I then confronted the shop owner but he denied everything. There were 3 people at the shop and I was alone so I couldn't do much. I have the full confrontation recorded as well.

Evidence I have:

Recorded phone call where technician acknowledges RAM fault

Video from Nehru Place confirming 2GB swap

Full confrontation recording

Shop photo

WhatsApp chat showing ₹2,500 quote

Should I go to the police? They handle this? I have no trust in them and my end sem exams are approaching in 15 days.

Repair guy said he fix faded/silver RAM contact pins. Claims it "reduces performance." Is this a scam?

My laptop won't boot. I pulled out the RAM stick and noticed the gold pins are worn down to a silver line in the middle.A local repair guy offered to fix the pins, but says the repair "will reduce performance." This sounds like a lie doesn't RAM either work or cause a black screen/crash?Should I risk his repair, or is it safer to just spend that money on a brand new replacement stick? Thanks!

My dad (Grade 3 technician, Eastern Railway) passed in 2018. No nominees registered. We're legal heirs me (19M), brother, sister, and 2 step-sisters from dad's 1st marriage.

The issue:

  • 1st wife's death certificate missing (old records) took 8 years to get DRM signed notice as alternative
  • Step-sisters holding NOC hostage deal is they get ALL railway money (compensation + pension arrears) and give it back after railway transfers to each individual
  • Brother got compassionate appointment (job), sister gets pension they signed a court agreement to send their shares to step-sisters
  • I never signed anything
  • Case still officially pending, new officer reviewing

Estimated amounts:

  • ~₹40L compensation
  • ~₹19L pension arrears (8yr × ₹20k/m)
  • Ongoing monthly pension

Questions:

  1. Can step-sisters legally enforce the NOC deal on me since I never signed?
  2. Can we get succession certificate that forces railway to pay each heir directly bypassing this deal?
  3. Is the court agreement my siblings signed enforceable?
  4. Any free legal resources for this? any advice?
