Murkwater Construction Site, Mercer Safehouse

I was surprised when the Railroad sent me to Murkwater to secure it for Mercer Safehouse.

I was rather betting on Spectacle Island, but no, it was Murkwater, the most pointless location on the map.

I decided early that I was going to use Railroad to get into the Institute, so of course I realised I was going to have to build the teleporter at this site and knew it was going to be a pain. Why? Well, it’s not flat. There is water everywhere and the teleporter is rather large, so I decided to build above the wrecked house. There are no settlers here, just a caretaker, so while the house I’ve built is not small, the floor area I built is huge, because I was going to have the teleporter elevated there, but guess what? It would not allow me to build it, the height limit here is really low, so I ended up with power, control, and antenna on the platform and the transporter itself, built on some concrete floors below. I’ve never built anything of any consequence at this site, but as you can see it is possible. Still, I’ve arrived in the institute again and I’m on the way to end game, but I’m bloody annoyed I could not build the transporter on the platform. I will go back and check the height because it could be that that item is not allowed to be built high up like that. I’ll check and let you know.

The decoration of Hangman’s Alley

Xbox, no mods, anniversary edition only.

If you’ve seen my earlier posts you’ll know I’ve done an edge to edge, three level Hangman’s Alley build and it is edge to edge. The main floor has living quarters, a hospital area, weapons and down the far end is my sole survivor area with power armours and a sleeping dorm. NPC won’t go up this far so it’s perfect to create a tooling area and show zone. It’s really coming along now.

Abernathy Farm, top down build.

Abernathy has a huge amount of space, but I want to build on what already exists, so I go to the roof, drop a floor panel and build out, down and around. Even Mr Abernathy likes the building as I’ve seen him tweak a gun in there. I can build out to the front as well, but for now I have a gantry bristling with guns.

Tenpines Bluff a forgotten gem

It’s the first place Preston sends us to help, Tenpines Bluff, which has two farmers, a broken building a shack with two mattresses and a handful of tomatoes and you’ve got to go up against a boat load raiders in the Corvega Plant to win them over to the Miniutemen. Most of us do the task, win their support then never return unless they are attacked and we don’t really care. But this play-through I decided I was going to build over the broken building and this is it. It’s two rooms with two connecting outside hallways. It’s barely recognisable after the upgrade. I’ve added to the farm and added a cannon, so know it’s Firebase Tenpines bluff. It’s not been attacked once yet & I used the Cannon to blow the hell out of Zimonja and gained that little building gem.

Finch Farm, kitchenware & Food, going up!

I said a couple of weeks ago that I was going to build an elevator up to the overpass above Finch Farm. This is my first attempt. The lift was built top down, so the step arrangement was my first way to get up to the elevated roadway, then I build down the floor. It’s not perfect, but it’s not awful either. No decoration yet, just a building with power.

Taffington Boat House a tall story

Just a quick look in the dark at my Taffington Boat House build. You’ll be surprised how we get in here and how the roof area is ‘overboarded’ or floored.

Settlements, how do you achieve 100% happiness?

I’ve been playing this game for a few years. I build wonderfully compact and even if I say so myself, desirable settlements, that are well defended with good roofs, comfy beds, plenty of carpets, lots of food and water, trade routes and trading stands and even the odd pet or two and still the ungrateful gits are not happy.

What are your tips to perfect settlement happiness.

Did you save the Quantum Ragstag?

This is the first time I’ve ever done this side quest and I liked the fact I had the chance to save the animal and not kill it, which was obviously an option.

Starlight Drive-in elevated screen extension

Starlight Drive-in is not short of space but this play-through is all about existing structures. This is not decorated yet, but you get the gist! This will sleep my entire settlement with space for trading and in the buildings below a workshop will be built.

Hangman’s Alley - Ground Floor

Second try.

So this is Hangman’s Alley Ground floor (3 total). The floor remains open ready for trading posts. As you can see the floor above is edge to edge. See my other posts for those.

Hangman’s Alley - 3rd Floor

3rd floor or 2nd floor? It’s three levels. On top there will be a bar, right now it’s just a covered area. Some more sleeping cells are provided and some farming too. Using the vanilla game I don’t think anymore can be done on this site. It’s maxed out. Once fully dressed I’ll do a final run through.

Hangman’s Alley - 1st floor

Following on from the ground floor, the first floor has a main building created using the warehouse materials. At this point it’s undecorated but will ultimately be a base for the General. I’m using prefab steel buildings as sleeping cells and one is at the far east end which will never be used by the settlers, they don’t seem to be able to get there, but don’t worry, I have more on the 2nd floor. I might have to cheat a little and throw down some weapons to get a bit more build as it’s getting a bit tight.

Rosa’s in Sanctuary

Rosa’s in Sanctuary, it’s the house across from the sole survivors house with the workshop. It all starts with two warehouse concrete floors and a couple of walls and floors. The floors initially go over the car port and will be the basis of the first floor room, from which I then build upward and all the way across which you can see from the little nook I’ve created for Mama Murphy. All this can be done in the first hour of the game which provides a good volume of XP as well.

Snapping and clipping; don’t give up

Sometimes snapping walls and floors together in Fo4 can be challenging. In the scenario shown here I’ve completely floored over the Jamaica Plain broken house. It requires careful positioning of the first element, but it’s the last floor parts that often fight back the most. Often simply repositioning where you stand will fix the issue and here is was attacking the problem from underneath and pop, in it goes creating a completely boarded 1st floor. I’ll eventually do a video of the build method in full, but I hope my determination to get that floor to snap will encourage others to persevere with their build plans even if the game sometimes fights you.

Uh oh, I’ve lost my sentinel

It’s a horrible feeling. I was rushing from one trouble spot to the other, meanwhile at each location grabbing as much stuff as I could and loading my Sentinel and companion, Cait, up.

I was here, there, everywhere. I was the Scarlet Pimpernel saving kidnapped victims, clearing out settlements and then I went, where is my Sentinel! Argh! I’ve lost him. The damn robot is brilliant bringing extra fire when needed but also it’s a great donkey, and it was only when I realised I’d loaded him up but hadn’t emptied him out I realised he was gone.

I say gone, I turned him off somewhere, but where? I’ve gone everywhere… or think I have, clearly not as I’ve not found the huge chunk of metal, but it’s definitely not where I looked. My wife would say, where did you last see him; unhelpful. Other Fo4 gamers might pull a Brick-top, what do you mean you lost him, he’s hardly a set of fuc*ing car keys now is he? And they would be right, but he’s definitely lost, somewhere out there in the commonwealth. So now my game is all about hunting him down with Cait. She’s about to drop… not a baby, no, the big question, which is will I take her to get cleaned up which of course I do. She’s fit, and more than a bit feisty, I do love an Irish girl.

So there it is, I was going to post a video showing my latest Coastal Cottage config, which if I say so myself, is bloody good. Meh! Maybe next week. Got a week’s holiday, so that will be something to do.

So who else lost a Sentinel? I cannot be the only one.

Fallout 4 Fencing Tip

As soon as I realised I could use the picket fences in Sanctuary I did, but hated the uneven ground and the floating posts. Eventually I worked out that you could set the posts nicely in the ground by removing the last fence item set correctly then select the floating fence to reset then placing the good fence section back.

My pretty badass barmaid

Hangman’s Alley needed a barmaid so I’ve dressed her in Kellogg’s kit and a rather spiffy hat.

Day care fallout style

Take good care of the old in Fallout 4, especially Mama Murphy. When she asks for a chair, even though plenty are around, I build her chair on a carpet with a fire and a sideboard of nick-nacks and a potted plant, but where is she? The clues are there…

Hangman’s Alley the first planks

To start building the Hangman’s Alley, you’ll need to begin with the warehouse steps, six floors, two walls, and a bit of roofing and the trusty concrete pillar.

In this build, I’m aiming to get the whole structure as close to the original buildings as possible. The first six-floor elements help me get a good sense of alignment, and the walls are especially useful because you can see the buildings clipping through. You’ll also notice how I move the steps and pillar to ensure everything is perfectly aligned. Just changing your position and moving the pillar can enable a glitch position, so don’t be discouraged if the game stops you from placing something. It often means you need to move the pillar and yourself to a different position. Be patient, as your positioning will really make all the difference in the final result.

My next video will show some small details that add almost nothing to how it looks but make me feel the building is possible from a structural standpoint.

A little room in the hole.. ooh err, missus!

https://www.reddit.com/r/falloutsettlements/s/UYKnohYGxs

In my last post, I mentioned that little room in the hole. For some new Fallout 4 players, you might be wondering what I’m talking about.

When you arrive at Coastal Cottage and secured the settlement, you’ll find it’s in a state of disarray. There’s a building that’s completely collapsed and a huge truck, which you might be wondering how it got there, I know I do, and underneath the said truck, there’s a hole.

The first thing I build is a small steel room, which will, with the pillar glitch just fits in the hole. This will be my home until I’ve built my settlement, as you’ve seen in the video.

As the video shows, I end up with a floor above it and steps leading down to it. It can be used for storage, power or anything else, but for my players, it’s their home. I’ve been playing in survival for a long time, so a bed is essential, and I can’t stop building them, even when playing on easier difficulty settings.

I’ll be honest it needs some attention to make it more comfortable, but for the sole survivor, it’s home for a few nights.
