Hypothetically, if vgc were to switch to a selection phase like league, would it affect the meta [Metagame?]

for example:

P1: selects 1 pokemon

P2: selects 2

P1: selects 2

P2: selects 2

P1: selects 1

Honestly kinda hard to come up with a fair selection order.

Would it affect viable mons/strategies?

Would having closed/open teamsheet affect how weak/strong first/last pick are?

There's no world in which I'd want this to be how it works. Pokemon is great how it is now, trying to figure out what your opponent will bring based on what they think you'll bring.

just interesting to think about.

Make scorpion adaptations last until the end of NEXT round.

and give red the upgraded versions like blue has.

currently scorpions are kind of mid. red is the better upgrade and can afford the buff of the upgraded adaptations. blue needs more as a base unit to compete.

Adaptations only last until the end of the current round. and with scorpions' abysmal initiative that basically means it only affects their turn. Having the 20/30% damage bonus last for their counterattack next turn, or defense to make them a tank until their next turn, or speed lasting through their next turn so they can fly in with an attack boost from that turn.

this would make them able to rotate the buffs to great affect.

speed to inch a bit, and since it lasts until the end of next round you still have it to get all the way in. On the turn you get all the way in you pop the attack boost to get a good strike. next turn you still have the attack boost to pop defense and eat a counterattack and damage from any units that hang back to fight you.

would make the. a much more intersting unit.

Hives biggest opp is the timer

we all know the very start of the game is rough for hive. This leads to you having to take a lot of time doing each individual fight.

All the positioning and all the kiting and spacing takes a lot of time. it isn't uncommon for you to hit the end of the battle timer or go a bit over.

This gets even WORSE once hive is in a position to use their larvae to prevent losses. Once you get to this point it really isn't uncommon to go over the battle timer with all the stuff you had to do before and now having to properly use the larvae every round if possible to block archers, chokepoints, bait enemies, and all the other stuff you have to do just to not bleed out your ass.

I don't have a solution to this, as faction based timers starts to be a janky solution to the problem. Just wanted to bring it up because I find myself losing non-bonus time in fights way, way more than other factions.

Spell power should do more

As it is now spell power basically scales duration, and damage for some spells.

which sounds fine at first, but with the way damage falls off relatively fast vs army strength the damage isn't enough to do much.

and duration doesn't really matter (in most scenarios) past like 3 round since fights are usually decided by then.

What I propose is a shift from some spells scaling duration to scaling effect to help close the might vs magic gap later in the game.

For example one of the best spells in the game, radiant armor. Should scale in strength somewhat so that a magic hero's army can better compete vs might.

If yours last 8 turns and theirs last 3 it doesn't really make a difference (there are exceptions, like a strong wean or the rare long fight). your extra spell power is mostly pointless. But if they both lasted 3 turns and yours reduced 40% damage to their 25% you'd have a much better fighting chance against their better might stats and skills.

numbers aren't final, just to give an idea.

I know there are some spells that scaling matters like despair, nairas kiss, rewind life. But since your army is weaker your buffs/debuffs should be a little stronger. nothing crazy, but a difference would be nice. It would also add more decisions to spellcasting besides "get my radiant armor going" every time. I know that isn't how it is EVERY time, there are lots of good spells. but it's typically clear what's best whenever you have access to many spells. maybe radiant armor scales slowly so you need high power to make it really effective, so you go for something like optical illusion which is stronger without a need for high power but only covers ranged. or unnatural calm where the effect doesn't scale, just duration. 3 similar spells all scaling different ways.

This wouldn't change high-end games much since you get many, many stats. but in midgame battles or lower skill games it would make a difference?

Thoughts? Other suggestions? holes in the idea?

Why isn't my hero learning any tier 3 plus magic?

I thought I had this stuff figured out. I went to the town with the T4 mage guild and my hero doesn't have access to any spells above T2. this is the 2nd game in a row this is happening and I have no idea why

How do offense specialists work for ranged units?

Their specialty says their units deal 10% extra basic attack damage with another 1% every few levels.

additionally, ranged and long reach attacks get 1% damage everg few levels.

is the ranged/long reach bonus on TOP of the base 10 + 1% or do ranged and long reach attacks not count as basic attacks, so they only get 1% bonus damage every few levels and nothing of the base bonus and other scaling?

if that's the case it should be changed to say. "basic melee attacks" to be more clear.

What are the counters to alpha strike primal magic damage?

Just had a game as hive on the primal magic hero. fight 1 fireball and lightning bolt kind of cleaned up the fight before it started.

fight 2 chain lightning into fireball did the same.

both of these happened before they had a chance to do anything because of hive's initiative.

I know for better players you'll have way more artifacts to choose from and larger armies that can take the hit well.

But as players who aren't as masterful at the game, like we don't consistently bit desert on exodus.

I understand it's just a "low level" stomper since better players don't play for this. But is there nothing you can do unless you outskill/outscale the strategy?

You can get resistance but there's a chance you never roll it by even the second fight. anything else?

Can you "over level" spells?

For example normally you'd only need +3 levels to a spell school to get max level spells.

but if the opponent has -1 spell levels that puts you at only +2 so your spells are no longer max.

So could you get +4 total levels to your spells to counteract this? I vaguely remember hearing that you can't since the game "caps" you at +3 levels but I just want to be sure.

Really missing HoMM3 bless when running reavers in hive.

didn't see the effect on any of the spells even when upgraded.

are there any artifacts or skills that provide a buff so a unit can deal max damage? or maybe a spell I missed?

I know there's no plans (as far as I know) to bring it to switch/consoles. and if there were it wouldn't be for a while.

But damn if it wouldn't be chill to spend my weekend sitting on the couch grinding some HoMM. (Other consoles would work for this too, we just happen to have the switch)

and my girlfriend loves games like this, but doesn't love playing games on her pc. she loves playing civ on that thing and has played HoMM with me before but doesn't like PC/hotseat gaming.

If it isn't in the plans they should heavily consider it down the road.
