Is it ever optimal NOT to kill your lane opponent?

Usually withing the context of saving a summoner spell, and 1v1 in laning phase.

I understand if you're just beefing to the death and you don't need to burn anything then there's no scenario you don't take the kill.

and obviously if the jg might appear and get a follow up kill while the wave is at your turret then flashing to get the kill is probably a bad idea.

This is strictly in the 1v1.

I ask because when watching some high level gameplay I occasionally see times where they could 100% burn flash to finish off their opponent such as with kassadin flash ult combo to close a lot of distance and surprise them.

I might be misremembering but I even vaguely remember a top lane player say they were fine with just forcing the recall and not killing but I'm not sure why.

I swear people would rather lose than play a game where someone else carries.

In the last few days I have had 3 games that were perfectly winnable ff'd around 20 minutes.

For context I play a scaling champ so if we survive long enough I spike and can maybe bring us back.

but people don't want to stop fighting for even a minute while behind to wait for them or someone else to be a bit stronger and maybe change the outcome of fights.

the most recent one we had 3 heavy scalers. we were pretty behind but we had survived a while and soon we could try and turn the game around.

I kept telling them we're fine, we win this, we scale, relax annnnnnnddd they ff while we're only around level 13.

Now I know not all of those would turn around but I know the game is far from lost. and they just give up dragging me with them and their weak mental.

If I thought the game was cooked I would ff for sure but these weren't.

I just don't get why you would even queue up for ranked with such a paper thin mental or if it seems like you don't even want to play the game.

again. I swear these people would rather just lose the game than play it if they aren't the one who carries in the end.

playerbase just feels so weak lately.

How do you convince your team not to ff?

I've had this issue several times lately.

we're behind, which is expected. some games a lot, some games a little. I keep telling my team we're fine and that we win this. yet they keep ffing between 15-20 minutes.

They refuse to wait to keep fighting while behind until we hit spikes and just give up dragging me to the loss with them.

First time was annoying, second time made me a bit mad, and the third time this happened in the last few days was genuinely infuriating.

Why queue up for ranked if your mental is so weak you just give up?

I swear people would rather lose the game instead of winning if they aren't carrying themselves.

it's kind of pathetic how peoples' mental is lately.

Should you replace muramana late game?

I ask because I find myself falling off even at 6 items lategame. I can 1v1 most people but can't quite carry a team if I'm the big fed one.

I find myself full build a lot in that position but again, I feel like I'm just not nuking people that late in the game.

My build usually ends up pretty defensive. 1 of the defense boots, rod, mura, seraphs, zhonyas, then mejais if I keep it stacked, deathcap if I dont, or void staff if they have a lot of MR.

does the mura fall off lategame?

am I building wrong when in position to carry?

how the heck do I kill nilah?

I just had a crazy game. full mejais, 10+ kills and no deaths. all before level 16.

post level 16 I go try to 1v1 the opposing nilah. I tp on her, cast everything. and she takes like zero damage. I keep fighting and she just takes no damage until I die and she's at 50% hp (she was a bit strong, but not like I was).

Im readin her abilities and one says it gives her 25% magic damaged reduction. but even through that I should be nuking her. I delete their galeo, rammus, darius, or swain without breaking a sweat.

my second death was also to her. she was like 80% hp in a bush and didn't know I saw her. tp onto her, blow everything and lose the fight with her still at like 50% hp.

what the hell is happening? how do I kill this champion?

What should my damage look like after the game?

I find that at the end of the game I've been having very low champ damage on anivia relative to my team. But I feel like the damage I do matters at least.

Even on the games I do amazing I'm not even the most damage on my team.

am I doing something incorrectly? or is mid-low champ damage normal for anivia?

It's just 2nd sprint

and exodus is made less fun.

and exodus is no longer guaranteed.

Time to dodge even more games.

hell, might be time to not play at all.

Who is your most underrated unit?

Your underdog.

Your secret sauce.

Your lowkey goat.

Who is the unit you believe doesn't get the recognition it deserves?

What do you see in them that you think others are crazy not to?

Am I the only one scared for the inevitable grove buffs?

Don't get me wrong they need some help, we all know it.

But lately people have been playing it and doing better than expected as they learn how to play it.

They somehow feel really strong but fall short of what it takes to win games.

I think grove is gonna be nuts when it gets some deserved buffs. and as a non-grove main I for one, am spooked.

Dungeon also needs a little help but I don't think there's as much of a possibility of "opening the floodgates" with them.

More stuff I don't get... where do all these stats come from?

Much of the time I'll notice in fight 2/3 on exodus my opponents stats are just obscenely higher than mine. (even without insight specialty bonuses).

If the game ends after fight two, or just after fight 3 I'll check their hero and their map. and strip use each of all artifacts and their stats still dwarf mine. even if 1-3 levels apart.

I scour the map looking for all the monasteries, paupers, towers, and other sgat giving objectives and I just don't see enough of a difference in the number of these objectives to account for the difference in stats.

ESPECIALLY in fight two, I'll check afterwards and neither of us have broken intk the desert? just cleared a chunk of our 5 town areas.

It's like they're pulling extra stats out of thin air at times. (I'm not saying their cheating, just using an expression)

How the heck do you avoid being screwed without both basic mines?

Hive needs an obscene amount of ore. I find that unless you get both mines early then you just can't build anything you need in a reasonable timeframe. Unless you have a disgusting amount of objectives to cover the basic resource costs.

This can lead to a lot of wasted movement trying to get these mines.

If you can't double build waurms week one then your ability to clear before fight 2 is significantly weakened.

Is it just waste the movement to get the ore or be unable to build anything?

Drums should not be upgradeable.

The amount of damage this item adds when unupgraded alone is absurd.

T1 stack deletes literally anything else in the map with this thing. it's obscene. stronger than most spells in an item slot.

Artifact merchants are such a huge advantage. Let all factions have them.

Thematically it makes sense that Hive and Necropolis don't have artifact merchants. But they have marketplaces so we can ignore what makes sense. (lowkey schism also feels like it shouldn't have an artifact merchant)

Not having them is such a disadvantage. You can afford so much more when you have the ability to sell off unnecessary artifacts. or the option to buy a good one.

yes you can access one if your 3rd town has one or your opponent has one (in exodus). but your opponent still has access to more and the ability to sell stuff off to afford things at the last minute.

hive/necro need to do all their selling and buying as guesswork before they go to start rallying. and have less opportunities to find what they're looking for. powerwise there's no reason they shouldn't have access to it. (assuming necro has reached a balanced state)

What am I not understanding about exp?

I heard a high rank player, skayne, say that by fight 1 exodus you should be level 12+. But even in my BEST games I hit maybe 10 at best. usually 8ish on a good game.

even in games where I'm taking fights every turn and grabbing everything I want to. For mines, banks, small artifacts, dwellings, altars/hunters dens, and whatever else.

But I still never even get close. to 12+ by first fight.

What am I missing about exp gain?

I know it's based on the units/how many there are (hp based?) but that doesn't really change anything.

Purging touch lowkey one of the strongest things in the game.

Debuffs don't exist when you play temple.

I cleanse nairas kiss, I cleanse twilight on my important shooter, I cleanse slows or initiative debuffs, I cleanse everything for one focus.

and archangel stealing buffs is kind of cracked. They tried to reality distortion their avatar and I just yoinked that shit for myself.

you cant single target debuff or buff against temple. I deny your attempts to hamper my army and steal your buffs for myself.

Whether they balance more for single hero or classic, the one thing they should NOT do is balance for box gaming

This is my only real opinion on how they should balance.

They should not balance a faction based on game modes where the intent isn't even to end up using your own factions units. it's weird and will just lead to wonky balance changes that affect game modes where you ACTUALLY play your faction.

I have less strong feelings about modes like sprint where boxes are your own town units. I still don't love it as I believe building out a town is a huge part of the game. But I wouldn't be as annoyed if they use that or any other modes that use your factions boxes as a consideration for balance.

balance the factions for the factions. not for how fast they can become a different faction.

Would groo (hive T7 specialist) be broken if he started with just 1 hive queen?

arguably the two waurms zoran starts with are MUCH better and safer for clearing.

combined with defense zoran is a much stronger hero. Groo starts with wisdom which is not only a bad starting skill but a skill you don't even take later normally.

Hive queen also isn't the strongest as far as T7 units go, and odds are you're building 1 dwelling week one only if you're have a good game.

Thoughts?

I could've sworn there was another T7 specialist but I couldn't find them.

How meaningful are +/- 1 or 2 to a stat really?

Just curious because I understand it has an effect but it somehow feels really weak unless I'm misunderstanding something.

the % change in damage done or taken is so small. and at mid to late game when stats are high and many things are in play that 1 doesn't seem like it will matter.

I understand that adding/subtracting 10 has an absolutely HUGE, effect. but for some reason intuitively a change up/down by 1 feels negligible.

I mean in attack/defense.

I know changing damage, speed, initiative by 1 is a gigantic change.

Why are so many strats completely shut down by 1 item/spell?

Luck based hero? oops, a single fairly common item shuts off your entire steategy.

Morale based hero? oops, a single fairly common item turns your hero into a nothing burger.

Caster hero? oops, a single item makes you helpless and gets you railed before you can do anything.

Running a daylight caster? Cast arinas chosen and with a fairly common item your stack is now immortal because oops, all dispells are disabled. (this is more enabling a toxic strat but still it only takes a single common item)

Hive? any number of summon dispells invalidates your entire faction mechanic.

Need tactics to reach your opponent or protect your archers? oops, a single item completely screws you over.

Regardless of if you think something is balanced (and completely winning off one item is NOT) it's incredibly anti-fun.

If these effects are staying in the game they need to at least require a set.

heavenly blades works on larvae now. we're so cooked actually

heavenly blades didn't instantly delete larvae before the patch. But now it does.

A single spell deletes our entire faction mechanic now.

lowkey roll it back man take your buffs so we can keep our larvae as not dead weight

There was a post a while back. either me or someone else that asked if there was any way to mass dispell communion shadow army and the result was people going "you want an entire faction mechanic to just be countered by one spell?!?"

Where those people at now? and schisms doesn't even cost focus. Heck vs schism heavenly blades doesnt even help because you do damage BEFORE you dispell the stack.

All melee faction with no good way to block archers now. GG
