Here's some backstory
Me and Kayla have never had a good relationship, it all started with my 16th birthday. It was a very special day for me, I invited all my friends and family to my house and threw a huge party with drinks, snacks, disco lights, board games and everything. Then when my parents walked in with a huge pink cake with edible glitter and Disney princesses on the top. I was super excited, for once everyone's eyes were on me, my whole life Kayla was always the center of attention, the so called golden child, good grades, super nice to teachers, everyone loved her and ignored me. Then suddenly Kayla pushed me out of the way and screamed "Im getting engaged!" Everyone immediately cheered and once again all eyes were on her. Fast forward to collage, I started a tech business, it was a small business at first and didnt make alot of money, Kayla would always steal money from me saying she needed money for groceries, then came with a Gucci bag, saying she needed money to help our parents with bills then came with a 1000$ pair of sneakers, I didnt have the heart to stop giving her money so I kept giving her more. When I was 21 I had a boyfriend, Daniel Cole, I loved him so much, I thought he was the love of my love, I pictured a life together with him. Then a year into our relationship I walked into my college dorm and saw Kayla and Daniel on the bed doing...it. I was shocked, horrified and disgusted and immediately ran out of the room. I wanted to yell at her but instead, I waited outside, let them finish then when Kayla walked out she immediately started screaming at me for being a creep and listening in on them. I then calmly explained that what she did was disrespectful to me and told Daniel I was breaking up with him and walked away. Rewind to when we were 12, Kayla "accidentally" killed my pet fish by dumping a bottle of kool-aid in the tank, we were being looked after by my aunt Linda after mom and dad went on a trip, I ran to her saying Kayla dumped kool-aid in the fish tank. She explained that Kayla was just curious and did it on accident. My aunt Linda always defended Kayla because she was the golden child and "sensitive" when I told Kayla she was disrespectful for sleeping with my boyfriend, aunt Linda called to tell me i hurt her feelings.
When Kayla was 18 she got together with Brad, she invited Brad to my parents house to meet them, he claimed to be a fitness influencer but looked morbidly obese, despite this the entire time he insulted my appearance saying I needed to loose weight, calling me fat and ugly, saying he didn't know how I was identical twins with Kayla, I calmly and maturely told him that wasnt nice and he blew up yelling sexist remarks at me.
Ive invited their kids over once and one of the kids broke my laptop and nobody paid for it, because of this I haven't invited them over again until recently.
Now here's where it starts so buckle up
On Christmas we arranged for them to come at 12 but Kayla and her family arrived late at 1pm, Brad drove them to the lake house in a huge truck, and the kids immediately ran out into the house and started running around and screaming, Paisleigh screamed "EWWW" when she saw my house decor saying it looked like an old lady house and called me a bitch. Maddox then grabbed on of the chocolates on the table and began smearing chocolate on the furniture. I then told them "Please dont let the kids upstairs into my office, it contains confidential work equipment" Everyone agreed but Brad muttered under his breath that the office probably wasnt that important, I decided to ignore that and the day went on. While I was cooking, I heard noise coming from upstairs, I looked around and Brad, Kayla, and the kids were no where to be found, I ran upstairs to find Brad streaming on my 12 thousand dollar PC, I was so stunned I didn't say anything, I watched as Jaxon spilled juice on the PC, Braxtyn taking collectibles off the shelf and throwing them around, Maddox slamming random buttons, ending the livestream. Then Paisleigh pushed Brad off the seat and tried to play Roblox but instead deleted an important presentation. Smoke starts coming out of the PC as i stand there frozen in shock, Brad laughs and Kayla says "they're just curious kids". Everyone ran upstairs to see what was happening. Then, I snapped
I told Brad he was a middle aged podcast Andrew Tate knockoff, he tried to respond saying "atleast I'm ripped" and I responded "your muscles are big but your ego is bigger, stop trying to be one of those fitness influencers, your morbidly obese, and telling people how to loose weight, your a pathetic Andrew Tate knockoff, you think your so cool but your really just a sad middle aged man", he was speechless, I could tell he wanted to make a snarky comeback but he couldn't. Then i turned to Kayla who was standing there shocked, I didnt hold back i told her she's been enabled her whole life, she tried to tell me I was being dramatic but I didnt stop I told her "you've been enabled your entire life, treated as the perfect golden child, everyone bent over backwards for you but that shall go on no more, your ego is so fragile anytime someone points something out you get all butt hurt truth is you'll never be as successful as me."
I thought maybe I should stop but decided against it, I blurted out something I regret "Your kids act like brats because no one parents them, and lets not get started on the cheating rumors!" Kayla burst into tears, Brad gets red faced and starts yelling, my aunt Denise starts clapping, Maddox throws up from crying too hard, my dad Robert quietly leaves the room, my mom Linda says "I dont recognize you right now." Then Brad shouts "At least I'm not sleeping Mia behind your back anymore!" The room went silent and everyone freezes, Mia(27F) is Kayla's childhood best friend. Mia had been silently watching the whole thing unfold in the corner, everyone's eyes were on her. Then Kayla says "I know you have another girlfriend in another state, and i forgived you for that, but Mia?! My best friend?!" Everyone is shocked and my mom Linda faints, then Brad calls an ambulance and Mia blurts out that shes pregnant. I then notices Paisleigh recording everything for tiktok. Brad storms out angrily still hurt about what i said, and then everyone leaves. A few hours later I check face book and see that Kayla keeps posting vague face book statuses. Then my phone start blowing up non stop, random cousins send essays about family values, some saying I tore the family apart while some thanking me for standing up for myself, one uncle demands repayment for a wedding gift from 2019. I decide to put my phone on silent and take a nap.
I accidentally fell asleep and woke up the nest day, when I opened tiktok I saw that the tiktok Paisleigh made went viral, I was shocked, it had 3 million views, I was super shocked and overwhelmed so I decided to take a walk and go to Costco. At Costco tons of people recognized me, I saw people gossiping about me one lady even started clapping my cheering when I walked in and the rest of the store joined along everyone now clapping for me. I pull out my phone, put it off silent and notice an old teacher messaged me saying she always knew Kayla was trouble. Daniel then texts "I should've listened to you about your sister." Brad then texts me threatening to sue for emotional distress
Now half my family says I was justified and the other half says I traumatized the children and ruined Christmas. My therapist says I may have been gaslit for years, but I still feel guilty.
I might be the asshole because maybe I overreacted and shouldn’t have yelled at children, but I also feel like my boundaries were violated.
