Confused after 2.5 month follow up with dermatologist - switch from tretinoin to adapalene?

Previous routine:

AM (all bioderma products): sensibio gel cleanser
Sebium sensitive moisturiser
Aquafluide sunscreen

PM: sensibio gel cleanser
sebium sensitive moisturiser
tretinoin 0.025% cream

I have been on this routine for about 8-9 weeks , but i am still experiencing some breakouts and whiteheads which i assumed to be part of the purge. I also have quite a bit of PIE and PIH from previous acne and the current breakouts on tret

I had a follow up with my dermatologist today , i mentioned that I would like to switch to gel version of tret since i find cream textures a bit annoying.

I was recommended the following new routine:

AM: same as before
PM: adapalene 0.1% gel and eucerin anti-pigment night care on alternate nights, use tret as a spot treatment

I am a bit confused if it makes sense for me to switch from tret to adapalene at this stage since based on my research and my current skin condition i am still not entirely through the purge phase of tret.
if anyone switched from tret to adapalene and how was your experience?

[Acne] nearing 3 months on tretinoin 0.025% cream, still breaking out- HELP

Had a terrible flare up of acne in dec 2025- feb 2026 which led me to try multiple treatment routines (also change dermatologists), until i started tretinoin 0.025% cream in the end of February 2026 along with a 7 week course of antibiotics. I have noticed improvement from back then but i am still breaking out quite frequently . My routine is as follows

AM: bioderma sensibio gel cleanser
Bioderma sebium sensitive moisturiser
Bioderma aquafluide spf50

PM: bioderma sensibio gel cleanser
Bioderma sebium sensitive moisturiser
Tretinoin 0.025% cream

I am nearing 3 months of daily use on tretinoin but still have quite many breakouts which i thought would have subsided more by now. I also came off my birth control pill (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol ) on my psychiatrist + derm recommendation at the same time as starting tretinoin, so nearing 3 months off the pill too

I feel like i should have progressed better by now. Any advice if i should up my strength, change to a gel or keep going the same routine? I am also thinking of adding azelaic acid in the am based on several people’s recommendations.

Any help/ advice appreciated!!

Hi, i have been on nightly tretinoin 0.025% use for about 8 weeks now. I am still getting breakouts (whiteheads and some inflamed ones) in my usual acne areas (pretty much my entire face). However, there are some spots on my cheeks that had severe inflamed breakouts pre-tret and I have gone through multiple breakouts in those exact spots for 2-3 times after starting tret too. They're not as inflamed as before but still a bit inflamed and leaving marks. Is this a common purging experience or does this mean i might have to up my strength?

Routine:

AM: Bioderma sensibio gel cleanser
Bioderma sebium sensitive moisturiser (recently switched to this one, earlier i was using skin1004 centella serum instead)
Bioderma aquafluide sunscreen

PM:

Same cleanser
Moisturiser (earlier was using sebsibio active soothing cream but found it a bit heavy, switched it out to sebium sensitive moisturiser)
tretinoin cream
