Moving from Rogers postpaid to Koodo prepaid with an eSIM—how to port without losing my number?

Hey everyone, I’m a newcomer to Canada and currently on a Rogers postpaid plan using an eSIM (account balance shows $55.22 due August 18, number starts with 587).

I want to switch over to Koodo prepaid while keeping my exact phone number. Since I'm using an eSIM, I want to make sure I do this in the correct order so I don't accidentally lose my number or trigger weird cancellation issues.

Could anyone outline the exact steps for porting an eSIM-based number in Canada?
Do I set up the new Koodo prepaid eSIM first with a temporary number before requesting the port?
Do I need to keep my Rogers eSIM active until the text confirmation ("YES") comes through?
At what point does the Rogers account automatically close?

A couple of extra questions:

  1. If I port out on August 12 (before my August 18 due date), will they still bill me that $55.22 plus extra? Roughly how much should I expect my final Rogers bill to be for using it from July 27 until August 12?
  2. As a newcomer signing up for Koodo prepaid, roughly how much does it typically cost upfront to get set up with them?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Got charged an annual fee and then rebated immediately—did they actually waive it? (Not a student, age 22)

Hey everyone,

I just opened a Visa card and I'm a bit confused about how the fees are playing out. I'm 22 years old (so under 24), but I am not currently a student.
Here is what is showing up on my account history right now:

Aug 1: ANNUAL FEE of 48.00 CAD
Aug 3: ANNUAL FEE REBATE of -48.00 CAD
Current Balance: 0.00 CAD (My physical card hasn't even arrived in the mail yet—it's scheduled to show up between August 6–11).

Does this mean the annual fee is fully waived/rebated for me, or is there a catch because I'm not a student? Has anyone else experienced this where the fee posts and gets credited right away before even activating the card?

Would appreciate any insight!

FE Mechanical Prep: iPad Air vs. Laptop + Paper? Calculator & Notebook Recommendations

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing for the FE Mechanical exam. Right now, I only have a MacBook Neo, and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth buying an iPad or if a laptop + paper notebooks setup is more than enough since the actual FE exam is computer-based.

A few questions for those who have passed the FE:

  • Is an iPad worth it, or is a laptop + paper the better study setup?
  • Which NCEES-approved calculator do you recommend, and why?
  • If I use paper notebooks, where can I buy good, inexpensive graph/quad notebooks and study supplies in Alberta?
  • Any tips for organizing notes and practice problems efficiently?

I'd really appreciate hearing what worked best for you. Thanks!
