I figured this would be useful for the HTF artists here! This isn't to say you *have* to draw like this, but for those who prefer to I find it to be a useful tutorial.

I didn't realize how many black cat OCs there were until I made Smokey, now it looks like I copied other people 😭😭

I would say I'm decent at art, and I'm willing to experiment. I don't want the design to be too busy but also not too plain. The only design choices that are non-negotiable are the bandages, spiked band and earrings.

I've experimented with all kinds of features and it's so hard to choose a consistent design. You can ask me for Smokey's toyhouse page for more references and basic info. (I'm not sure if I can share it here because of sensitive content.)

The pets highlighted in purple are ONLY for 1:1 trades for ride pots

Obviously it took me longer since I've been passively upgrading my inventory for a while, but this was about when I really locked in :Þ

I never foresaw myself getting a neon grim dragon ever, let alone in a few days! I knew the general value of my inventory was ~150, but it was all in neons and megas, which are very htt. Despite what I initially thought, upgrading can actually happen. I traded most of my inventory for pots and certs, which got me a trade with a ride kangaroo, and everything snowballed from there. Here's how I got it done:

June 24 - Over the course of a week or so, I amassed a decent amount of pots and certs from trading my neon/mega pets in trading servers. I stumbled upon an Elve listing; 16 ride pots for a ride kangaroo. I did the trade and continued searching in trading servers for an upgrade.

June 28, 3:10 AM - At this point, I was getting discouraged from the sheer amount of lowballs and toxic traders I was getting. I was heavily considering taking a bad downgrade of low-value pets just to get rid of my kangaroo. But after getting a 15+ overpay for it, that's what motivated me to keep trading up. The adds I got from the kanga trade were traded for either pots and certs or low-value pets I wanted for my personal collection.

June 28, 7:38 PM - This was when I traded for the cow. Similarly to the kangaroo, I was getting discouraged and started making listings (on Elve and Traderie) for some neon pet I wasn't even sure I'd be happy with. But I realized that I had nearly 20+ value in pots and certs alone, and I could use those to upgrade my turtle! So that's what I did.

June 29 (midnight) - Trying to trade my cow wasn't easy. I was getting so many offers with dropping pets (like the werewolf and Siamese), petwear and other stuff I didn't want. My initial plan was to trade my current stash of pots and certs for a kangaroo, but the person I traded with was fine with having pet certs! I threw in some decent neons I had collecting dust in my inventory for a while, and only a bit of negotiation and a small overpay was needed to secure the grim dragon. :D

After finishing off my grim dragon quest and reading posts about ADM trading advice since I started playing (December 2025), here's my own advice I would like to reiterate:

Patience is key. I mean this wholeheartedly. Being impatient and panic-trading will most likely end up with a trade you're not happy with because you jumped the gun too fast. There's a huge player base now, so you're bound to find someone who will happily trade with you and even overpay if they're up for it! Even the most "htt" pets have their own niche group of fans who would be willing to offer for your stuff.

Value, demand and stability are the most important parts about trading a pet. This only really matters if you're trying to upgrade, really. If you already have a good pet, you're better off trading it for something that is stable, valuable and in high-demand. Basically, you want to trade your ett pet for another ett pet that will guarantee a good trade or overpay. That's why I was hesitant to trade off my cow for werewolves, Siameses and other pets.

Be mindful of scams and manipulation tactics. This one is kind of obvious, but sometimes it can slip your mind. If someone tries to convince you to accept by telling you stuff like "I'm over" and "this pet is rising", you should probably reconsider it. Some people just have no shame in gaslighting you into accepting a bad trade. 😭 They could be right, but I find that Reddit has been more reliable when it comes to trading advice, not some rando that's salivating over your preppy pet.

Be firm in your trading stances. ADM is full of kids and immature people who will make you feel bad about declining a trade, but you have every right to say no. You're also not entitled to accepting any trade just because the other player wants you to. For example, I wasn't accepting downgrades for my cow because I had already gone this far trading for it, and I was still trying to get my grim dragon. Like I mentioned before, you'll eventually find someone who will gladly do your trade!

Remember to have fun! ADM is a game, not a stock market simulator. Trading is obviously a huge facet of the player base but it doesn't mean it's the only thing that matters. If you trade up for a high-tier and you don't even like it, then that kinda defeats the purpose. You don't have to spend hours in a trading server every day if you don't want, and a loss in values means nothing if you're happy with the trade. I did a 7+ overpay for my grim dragon, but I don't care because it's my new favorite pet. 🖤 Happiness is what you make of it, after all.

I know this is a long post so I'd be surprised if you read through the whole thing 😭 I just wanted to ramble and show off my baby. I'm done trading, I'm gonna do some grinding with my friend later today. It's 4 AM and I should sleep.

EDIT: I also had such a hard time trading the kangaroo (especially since I traded my neon candicorn for it right before it rose 🫩) that I was so ready to accept any decent offer 😭 But I'm glad I waited because I was getting abysmal offers before this
