Suggestions for finding a missing ancestor

I don’t know if missing is the right word, but I recently found a reference to an ancestor that surprised my uncle when I brought it up.

My great great grandparents settled in Oklahoma Territory in the 1880s. They had three kids, two girls and a boy (my great grandfather). My GG Grandmother died in 1899. I recently found an obituary for her which states she was a “loving mother of four” and then later states the youngest child was sent to live with a “Mrs. Miller.”

I have no clue how to go about finding anything on this mystery child. As far as I know my family has always accepted there were three kids. My GG Grand Aunt, who would be this child’s older sister, was three when their mother died and so would likely have remembered him/her, not to mention her two older siblings definitely being old enough to remember, but she makes no reference to a younger child in the genealogical research she did.

I’ve tried finding other newspaper articles for things like birth announcements. I even looked through the 1900 census for the country trying to find a Miller family with a child about that age. I’m just not sure where else to look

Artists you didn’t appreciate because you only ever heard one overplayed song?

Just curious of anybody has a band or artist they never really appreciated because you only ever heard the same song overplayed on the radio and you just didn’t care for the song and so never bothered to look into them more.

I was driving the other night and was listening to the Sunday evening show on XM’s Outlaw Country when they played an Old Crow Medicine Show song that wasn’t Wagon Wheel. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard a different song from them, but I’m starting to realize maybe I should give them another chance.

If I’m being honest, the same thing happened to me with Waylon Jennings. The local classic country station in my area only ever played Luckenbach, TX, and they overplayed it when it was back in their rotation. After a while I started finding more of his songs and now he’s one of my favorites.

Public Land Survey/Plat Maps

Does anybody know of any free (or inexpensive) resources for tracking down plat maps? I have found a number of records showing the plots of land my ancestors held, but I’m unfamiliar with the areas. The places I’m looking for are mainly in Oklahoma and Missouri if that makes a difference.

Historical versions would be great if just to possibly see their names in their land, but I’m assuming there hasn’t been any significant changes in the surveys in the last 100+ years.

Anybody else getting calls from “The Fellowship”?

Twice, once last week and again today, I’ve received calls from numbers that show up as “The Fellowship” but the numbers and area codes are difference.

Oddly enough, last week’s call was from a Hampton Roads number (757), and this week I’m in Virginia Beach for work and they called from a NoVA number.

Is this some cult that’s trying to recruit me?

How reliable are Chevy Cruzes?

With gas prices the way they are, I’m looking for a daily driver. I came across a manual 2017 Chevy Cruze for a great price with less than 90K miles. Even the Carfax report came back clean.

I’ve been doing some more research on the car myself and while it has generally good reviews, the bad reviews seem to be rather serious issues, like having to replace the engine after a few years.

Just wondering if anybody here has any experience with these cars, good or bad. Is it worth my time to even go test drive? Is there anything else I should be looking at?

What are some radio or TV jingles or business slogans that live rent free in your head?

Saw this question on another regional subreddit and thought I’d share. There are quite a few I remember growing up.

And just to save time, I think it’s safe to assume the BC Clark Christmas jingle is going to be the #1 answer, so we can gloss over that:

Often imitated, but never duplicated. Drabek & Hill!

From our farm, to our store, only Braum’s gives you more. Only Braum’s gives you so much more!

EDIT: I forgot to add two, though more are likely to be added as we go:

SWOSU! The focus is you!

Rose State College. Stay close, go far!!

Saw this in the greater Alexandria area on Richmond Hwy. From L to R:

• 33-Star US flag (US flag being flown at the start of the Civil War)
• Confederate States flag
• Bonnie Blue Flag. Considered the first unofficial flag of the Confederacy. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnie\_Blue\_flag?wprov=sfti1)
• Gadsden Flag
• Couldn’t quite make out want that seal looking sticker was.
