So I randomly came across some YT video saying that “everyday alcoholism” can start with something as simple as having a can of beer alone in the evening. And now I’m sitting here smoking grandmommy purple by myself and thinking… wait, is this the same kind of thing? 😂

Like, I’m not trying to be dramatic. I’m just chilling, listening to music, enjoying the evening. But that video got into my head a bit. Is smoking alone automatically a red flag, or is it more about why you’re doing it and whether it starts messing with your life?

Part of me wants you guys to tell me I’m overthinking it, and part of me is genuinely curious what people think.

Where’s the line for you between “normal solo chill time” and “hmm, maybe I should check myself”?

I’ve been trying to understand cannabis genetics better lately, and I keep coming back to purple strains because they’re easy to get obsessed with lol.

A good example for me is granddaddy purple and grandmommy purple. From what I’ve read, GDP is usually listed as Purple Urkle x Big Bud. Purple Urkle seems to bring that grape/berry, purple, old-school indica side, while Big Bud adds bigger yield and chunkier structure.

Grandmommy purple also seems to be based around Big Bud x Purple Urkle, at least from the info I found. So that made me wonder how close these two really are genetically. Are they basically different selections from the same parent lines, or is GMP more like a modern reinterpretation of that classic GDP-style cross?

I’ve grown both more than once, and that’s what makes it interesting to me. They definitely feel related in that purple indica way, but not identical. granddaddy purple felt more like the classic heavy, grape, old-school vibe, while grandmommy purple felt a bit more modern, stronger, and maybe more polished in structure.

So I’m curious:

If two strains use the same parent names, how close are they actually?

Can different breeders make totally different plants from the same cross?

Is it mostly about which phenotype they selected and stabilized?

And when people say an old strain is "gone," does that mean the original clone is gone, or just that modern seed versions aren’t the same anymore?

Still learning, so sorry if I’m mixing things up. I’ve grown both more than once, liked both of them, and the grows went well overall. Please don’t roast me too hard if I got something wrong haha, I’m just really trying to understand this genetics rabbit hole because it’s way more interesting than I expected 😅

Guys, be honest… are there real people here who actually win these contests or is it all a myth? 😂I keep seeing giveaways and competitions from Attitude, Johnny, Barney’s, RQS, FB and all that. I’m not super obsessed or entering everything, but if I catch a good one I’ll try my luck… and yeah, still waiting for that moment lol. Just saw one from Herbies in the dc and now I’m kinda tempted again. I do have some seeds at home I haven’t popped yet, but also not that many… so I’m like hmm.

Also, maybe there are some little tricks with these things? Like not putting everything in one order, but ordering seeds separately or something like that? Does that actually improve your chances if there are like 10 prizes, or am I just overthinking it?

Anyway yeah, I know it’s up to me in the end, but I’d really love to hear some stories from people who actually won something. What did you get and was it worth it?
