Olympus TRIP 30AF completely dead 🤔

Hi everyone! I am getting into camera repair as a hobby, reading recommended literature, and practicing on cheap gear. I have basic tools and a set of JIS screwdrivers (VESSEL).

My first project is an Olympus TRIP 30AF that is completely dead:

* Fresh batteries produce no response (no lights, motor, or sound).
* It looks like there was a battery leak; the compartment and springs show corrosion.
* I cleaned the visible contacts and scraped them, but there is still no power. I cleaned it and the cotton swabs came out brown.

**Questions:**

  1. What are the best next steps to trace electrical continuity past the battery bay?

  2. Beyond bad contacts, what are common points of failure on these compact point & shoots when a battery leaks (corroded internal wiring, blown fuse, bad caps)?

  3. Any recommendations for beginner friendly camera models to practice repairs on?

Thanks for any guidance!

Emergency: Fungus and fertilizer burn on my Euphorbia lactea. Is there any hope?

Hello everyone. I need some urgent help to save my favorite plants. I currently live in France but my collection is back in Brazil being cared for by my family. Three months ago I visited them and repotted my six Euphorbia lactea into a very well draining mix. However, I also added a lot of fertilizer.

Today my family sent me these pictures. The plants have turned completely yellow and are covered in circular black fungal spots. You can still see the fertilizer balls in the substrate. To make things worse, the weather there is currently very cold and rainy.

They get a lot of direct sun in the summer, over 7 hours. But now it is cold and rainy there

I suspect the heavy fertilizing burned the roots, causing them to rot and allowing this aggressive fungus to take over. Since I am far away, I need to give my family clear and simple instructions. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is it possible to save them by cutting above the rot, or is it a total loss? Any tips on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

12h layover in Corfu: Best nearby spots to relax, swim, and eat?

Hi everyone!

I have a 12 hour layover in Corfu and want to stay close to the airport just to relax and enjoy the day.

Any recommendations for:

A nice, nearby beach to chill and swim.

A great restaurant with good food and a relaxed vibe.

A beautiful spot to walk around and enjoy the views.

I want to avoid long travel times and just make the most of my day around Corfu Town or nearby.

Thanks!

Trip Advice: Saranda (Albania) & Corfu (Greece) in July

Hi everyone!

My wife and I (F32 and M27) are traveling in early July for a 7-day trip to Saranda, Albania.

The main goal of this trip is to relax, see beautiful places, unwind, and enjoy the sea as much as possible.

Our initial plan looks like this:

- We are landing in Corfu, Greece, and taking the ferry straight to Saranda, which will be our base.

- Our hotel is right in front of Saranda’s public beach, so we plan to spend a few days just relaxing around there.

- We definitely want to take a boat tour around the area.

- On our last day, we plan to spend the day in Corfu to explore the island before flying back.

Since this is our very first European summer, our expectations are huge! We have done a lot of research and are thinking about exploring other areas nearby, but we still have a few doubts and would love some suggestions to make the most of it.

We would appreciate your insights on a few points:

- Is it worth spending that last day in Corfu? We will have 12 hours free. Is that enough time to actually enjoy the island? Since our idea is to stay close to the airport in Corfu, do you have any specific recommendations for locations, beaches, or restaurants nearby?

- Which beaches or boat tours are absolutely unmissable when departing from Saranda? Is it easy to get around by bus?

- What else is worth exploring nearby without losing the focus on resting and relaxing?

- If there is anything related to water sports or scuba diving, I would absolutely love to hear about it!

Thank you so much for your help, everyone!

Merci d'avance !
