Canon 514XL-S Help
So I picked up a Canon 514XL-S that wasn't working and researched how to fix it. The classic gear disintegration problem came up. Because of how the camera acted, I also suspected the gears might just be binding up and just need to be cleaned and lubed. I got a replacement gear and some grease and opened the camera up today ready to tinker and get this camera running, but the gear appeared to be in great shape (at least to my untrained eye. Let me know if you think otherwise), so I don't think that's the issue. Maybe it does just need to be cleaned and greased, but I'm not sure what to clean and what to grease, so some guidance on that would be appreciated if you think that's the issue.
Here's what the camera does. When I turn the camera on and pull the trigger, the motor hums but slowly starts to die and then stops completely. If I pull the trigger again the motor might start up again and it might not. If it does start again, then it's hum indicates that it's spinning slower than the first time I pulled the trigger, and then it slowly dies again.
Does it need to be cleaned and greased? Is the gear actually toast? Is there something else that could be causing the issue?
I know most people say these aren't worth fixing, but I'd like to try, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!
NOTE: One of the teeth on the gear looks a little white. I did that. I was poking at it and scratched it a bit. It wasn't like that before.
