UK T1 Diabetics
Little edit because I’m getting pretty damn sick of repeating myself:
The petition is not asking for the government to hand over PIP to EVERY single T1 diabetic on a silver platter just because. The petition is asking for the criteria to be looked at in the system and to recognise more parts of T1 diabetes. It is asking for support and fairness, so that even if you individually do not want or need PIP, then at least that door is available to you if god forbid you ever need it. Prominent members in the diabetes community and others around are calling out some members too because some of you have absolutely NO empathy for how others live, sitting on your high horse with your “I’m alright Jack so f*ck the rest” attitude. And with that attitude, I hope that shall you ever need PIP, people make it incredibly hard for you too 😊
I posted this in another Type 1 forum, hoping it will be allowed here too. However in the other one it has caused some controversy. The petition is not asking the government to grant us PIP by condition, we all know that’s not how PIP works. We are asking that the criteria is looked at and changed, assessors more familiar with how much work goes into diabetes and everything else around it. There seems to be a very selfish outlook from some diabetics of ‘well I’m alright Jack’ that I’ve noticed so please if you have nothing nice to say, just scroll past. All I’m trying to do, and others in the diabetes community is to have better awareness, understanding and fairness for ourselves.
This is kind of exclusively for the UK T1 diabetics in here. There is a new petition going around on the GOV website for changing the PIP criteria to better include T1 diabetics as quite frankly most of us are denied it. Our CGMs and Pumps are not classed as ‘aids’ under their criteria’s too.
As many of us know T1 is such a complex changing condition that comes with so many other ‘side effects’ and which 1 person may lead a completely healthy and normal life others are struggling to function so please bare that in mind if you’re thinking of commenting along the lines of “diabetes doesn’t need PIP, we can lead normal lives without it” or similar. Just move on. This is more about bringing more and more awareness to our condition and the extensive needs and complexity of it.
