Gaming Laptop or Desktop Gaming PC

Help me decide. I am an incoming 3rd-year Computer Engineering student, and at this point, computers are becoming essential for our subjects, especially in 4th year when our thesis typically involves machine learning.

I am trying to decide whether to buy a gaming laptop or build a PC. Our university has computer laboratories, but access to them is limited, and I don't usually bring a laptop to school. Gaming laptops are expensive, even second-hand ones, while building a PC is much cheaper and can provide significantly better performance for the same budget. Also I want to game

Given my situation, which option would be the better choice?

P. S. I used ChatGPT to make my sentence grammatically correct, my English is terrible.

Is RTX 2050 laptop still good for low settings gaming and for engineering stuff (CAD and Programming)

I'm currently looking on fb marketplace for a gaming laptop and the cheap ones are often rtx 2050 gaming laptops, is it still worth it in the big 2026? I want your thoughts on this and do you think a rtx 2050 laptop can run GTA 6 at 30fps when the pc port comes out?
